http://media.cmgdigital.com/shared/news/documents/2013/04/05/crv_class_action.PDF

The above link is a copy of a recent lawsuit brought forth in a NJ federal court, alleging that Honda knowingly covered up the issue of a design defect in relation to door actuator failure.

In part, when this locking/unlocking occurs it poses a safety risk to the operator and passengers of the vehicle since the door locking and unlocking features fail to operate correctly. In some instances, single or multiple doors on the Class Vehicles may not lock at any time, whether the vehicle is turned on or off, despite actions or commands by the operator. This jeopardizes the safety of Vehicle occupants by making them more vulnerable to potential crime, unintentional door openings during operation, and other risks that could have otherwise been avoided. This defect also renders the Class Vehicles and their contents vulnerable to theft when left unattended.

While I love everything about my CRV, this is a safety issue and not a cosmetic one. Apparently, Honda has not yet offered a suitable repair for this defect. Based on info found in other forums, even repaired and replaced actuators quit working soon after.

To add to this, but while my front passenger door automatically unlocks, it engages again when reaching speeds of 15 mph, which will undoubtedly wear out the locking system much quicker than normal due to constant locking and unlocking.

The average repair cost is between $350-450. I'm a working mom, and do not have the time nor financial resources to repair what Honda allegedly did not make consumers aware of in the 2007-2011 models. I have contacted the atty who filed the case to find out if there has been a settlement reached, as well as if this is a national - or international - issue. Obviously, this issue reaches all parts of the country...

Back in December of 2011, I start hearing a clicking sound when I would accelerate. I realize a while later that it was the rear right passenger door unlocking itself. When I would come to a stop it would lock, then unlock when I started up again. A short while later the front passenger door starts doing the same thing. I take it to Honda, it worked fine while there. That figures. Then the front passenger door does a reverse on me, it would lock but not unlock from either the inside or with the key fob. Now the rear driver side door is starting to do the same thing. Starting to piss me off. I go to a different dealer and they said it would be $108 just to look at it. Even though the car is out of warranty, I was told by a Honda ex employee that if it's a safety issue Honda covers it for life. I considered this a safety issue. The dealer checked the doors and said it was the actuator. They replaced the passenger front and rear acuaters and now those are fine, but the driver rear door still unlocks itself. They should have replaced that when I told them it was starting to do it. Now I have to call American Honda and get them to pay to have it done. I already paid $125, I'm not paying more. According to another website(and the service manager at Honda), the 2007 CRV is known for this problem. Why doesn't it show up on their recall list? Any bum trying to clean your windows while waiting for the light to turn green can just open the door at will. Or parked at a stadium, anyone can get in. Not good. Honda is a good car overall, they really should address this problem and take care of it. It would be good business for them that should show they care,

The door locks randomly lock and unlock themselves when the car is in motion. When I use the key fob to lock the doors, the rear right passenger door does not lock at all. The rear left passenger door won't unlock with the key fob or the door switch unless you push it a bunch of times. The locks are unreliable and are a safety hazard!

first of all the rear driver side lock failed and had to be replaced for about 300 dollars.... now the passenger side door lock has failed resulting in it unlocking and locking right back before you can open it...definitely a safety issue not being able to open the door...i am a long time honda driver but they are refusing to recall this.... i see there is a class action suit against them for this... but this isnt like a torn door handle this is a safety concern....

At approx. 60,000 miles the automatic door locking mechanism on my 2007 Honda CRV(rear left passenger door) started malfunctioning. Symptoms included: Door locked and unlocked itself at will, while car was in motion. It would also set the alarm off, at any given time of day, place, etc. It was also not possible to even keep this door locked in parking lots, due to this poorly engineered system. I would definitely consider this not only a major safety issue, but also a real let down on the part of Honda Motor Co. for not issuing a recall on these poorly designed power locks. Now approx. 20,000 miles later I am experiencing the same prob. with the right rear door? Come on Honda, man up and recall your junk!

the front passenger door keeps unlocking then unlocks, and then when I hit 9 miles or under it keeps locking and unlocking constantly, it is very un safe, I never know if someone is going take my car or be sitting in it when I come out of a store. From what I read this is a major problem and very unsafe. This needs to be corrected as I have two kids that I don't want to be sitting up front and the door keeps unlocking.

What should I do...??? I can I get this fixed without paying out of pocket for this with money I don't have.??

Thanks

CR-V

I am going crazy with the locking system on my car! The locks on my 2007 Honda CR-V randomly go off at will. When the ignition is turned off, I have to open the door at the very moment the key is turned to the off position or I'll be locked in my own car. If I have passengers in the car, I have to ask them to open the door at the same time I do so everyone can get out of the car. When I'm in parking lots, I can hear my car locks locking a couple of times as I walk into stores. As though this isn't annoying enough, the locking craziness can and will set off the factory installed alarm system. I took my car to our local mechanic who has always done honest work for us. He told us that the actuator needed to be replaced, and it could only be replaced and installed by a Honda Service Center. I hate Honda Service Centers b/c they always try to upsell you even when you ask them not to. I'll be lucky if I get out from this situation for under $500-$1000. This is craziness. I've never heard of car locks wearing out. I've always driven Hondas...this CR-V may be my last one.

I am so pissed...My stupid auto lock are malfunctioning...Whenever i drive it decided to auto lock...this loud annoying sound...can be heard from far away. Whenever i accelerate the noise (auto locking happens)...it is embarrassingly loud. In addition to the auto locking happening followed up by the loud noise....all my car door won't lock. Even if i manually press the button down my back driver side passenger door will NOT lock. This is faulty and HONDA needs to RECALL this faulty lock issue.

Locks started buzzing as I drove. Only affected door at this point is my rear driver side. Because I'm never back there I didn't realize it wasn't locking properly. Just realized today that when I hit "lock" twice on my key remote and hear the beep (which means locked and alarm is on) that the rear driver side door wasn't locking. That's horrible--I have kids and this is a safety issue. Also I can't leave any belongings in the car until its fixed. Come on Honda--its obvious a recall is in order for the faulty door lock parts.

Two of my door lock and unlock themselves randomly, the front passenger door and the back driver side door.

Really annoying and scary, when you want your doors locked and they keep coming unlocked. Really aggravated that the dealer ship said it would cost around 400 dollars to fix. I don't feel like I did anything to cause this. I feel like this is a defect and they should correct this. This could be dangerous, especially when you have to put small children in the back seat of you vehicle.

I am very upset with American Honda not having my problem with the door locks as a recall when so many have had this problem on the Honda CRV 2007 which followed the Recall of the CRV 2006 with this same door lock problem. Thanks to my Wonderful Insurance Company GEICO and my extended warranty coverage only costing me $250.00. but I am still not happy in this economy and disappointed in the Honda.

Both of the front door locks actuators are not working properly. Some times when you want to unlock the car the doors won’t unlock, in other occasions when you try to lock the car the doors stay unlocked. This is causing the alarm to arm itself and when you open the door the alarm goes off, the only way to turn it off is with the control remote. Some times the alarm gets armed while we are in the car and it won’t start due to the defective door latch actuators. It various occasions the doors remained locked while we were in the car. THE UNLOCK BUTTON DOES NOT UNLOCK the doors, even trying to unlock the lock MANUALLY WONT WORK. The actuators stay locked!!! I’m pretty sure the back doors will start failing too any time soon. This is definitely a SAFETY ISSUE. Honda needs to put out a recall to this problem right a way, or maybe they waiting until someone dies due to their poor parts' quality.

The power lock for the back side door started buzzing constantly. I took it to a mechanic who fixed it. Then the other side door started buzzing constantly and locking and unlocking all by itself. I didn't have another $300 to put into the car, so I told them just to disconnect the power locks and I would handle it manually. This is a bummer because it was connected to the back trunk of the CRV, which I also have to do manually now...which means I have to climb through the back of the CRV every time I open or close my back trunk. People wonder why I jump in and out of the back of my car, and I joke about how I thought that buying an expensive HONDA was such a great idea. Never again.

A rear passenger side door is malfunctioning. Within a second of unlocking the doors this door re-locks itself. So you we have to repeat unlocking several times for the passenger to be able to get in or exit the vehicle - very impressive when guest are riding in the car.

The problem has been happening for about 6 mos and was very annoying. Just within the last week the problem turned into the door not locking - so now the door is automatically unlocking. It is also making a lot of noise as we drive. I am not sure if it is trying to lock and unlock as we drive?

We are now going to have to fix the issue, since this has become a safety problem. Looks like a lot of others have the same issue as well. It would be nice for Honda to step up and do something about this issue, which is obviously a faulty part. I am sure it would cost Honda a pretty penny to recall and fix this issue...much easier for them to have the cars owners spend their hard earner money on something that is not their fault. My next car will not be a Honda.

there was a recall on the automatic door locks for 2006 CR-V's.I have a 2007 CR-V and I suspect that some of these defective automatic door locks were installed on some of the 2007 models.I have (2) of my doors( front passenger and rear driver side ) that have gone bezerk. When I reach 10 miles a hour, when accelerating or decelerating, the door locks chatter loudly. I guess they are activating but not working correctly. The dealers said there is not a recall on this year model and never heard of this problem before.Honda vehicles are very well made vehicles, I would never expect anything like this from a Honda.Just one door, maybe ,but not (2) doors.First the front then the back.

Front side passenger and passenger side rear door actuators stopped working and had to be replaced after around 68k miles. At first the dealer said this is normal wear and tear. I told him that was BS and that this is a known issue with CRVs and that Honda ought to pay for the replacement cost. One of the service guys called Honda and got the company to cover half the cost. Not totally satisfactory but $100 is better than $200. I expect the other two door locks will fail at some point. Becoming very disappointed with Honda quality over the last 10 years.

Well, I am back again with another of the same type problem, this time it is the drivers side rear door electronic latch. This was a intermittent problem but then was continuous. I replaced the electric latch assy again myself it is a real pain, and another pair of hands helped to hold things. The metal window support is in the way of latch removal and takes a lot of maneuvering to get the latch out. There is black sticky goop around the door holding plastic in place and gets all over your hands and arms. I can understand why they charge up to $250 including the part to fix the problem. I realize now that I have to lock the CRV then look to make sure the alarm light is flashing on the dash. I still have 3 other locks that may fail in the near future? This should be a definite recall of defective latch assembles. If you hit your remote key-less entry button twice your horn will beep, but your car may not be locked at all the doors, this is what I found more than once. Beware, it is definitely a safety problem! Hope this helps others to understand the problem, Bruce Tiedeman Sarnia Ontario. Canada.
