The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 96,000.

Honda part#: 77900-sna-A01 (methode) -or- 77900-sna-A02 (furukawa) reel assy, cable. With the failure of this part, vehicle cruise control, radio controls and SRS air bags failed. The cable reel assembly is the component that makes the electrical connection between the function buttons and air bag on the steering wheel to the non-rotating steering column. The ribbon cable inside this mechanism was completely severed on the vehicle.

6/2013 car accident I hit a parked car traveling at approximately 20-25 miles per hour. The airbags did not deploy. The company chosen to do the work (custom innovations in eugene, Oregon) did not repair the motor mounts. Which im very upset about and trying to deal with. After having the work done the car was taken to Honda (kendall Honda also in eugene, Oregon) to have an assessment of my car diagnosed. The was the motor mount issue and other items oil change, transmission flush and the SRS light was on. Honda service dept. Could not diagnose the SRS and said they would get back to me. They never did. Approx 1mo. Diagnosis at Honda, I was sitting in a park parking lot charging my phone in the car with it in the accessory position. I had been there about 10 minutes when all of a sudden the drivers side airbag in the seat and the rear drivers side curtain air bag deployed. Scared the crap out of me and my dog. I suffered minor cuts, abrasions and severe bruising to my left elbow and tricep. I immediately went to Honda. It was a Sunday so only the sales team was there. I went again on Monday only to be sent away, with a we will call you.....very dismissive and vague. Then after calling 5-6 times they finally scheduled an appointment to look into it. Afterwards, they didn't have much to tell me except that it would cost me thousands of dollars to repair and no they didn't have an answer for why the airbags went off. Essentially I feel that the airbags should be replaced free of charge in addition to the SRS sensors all being replaced because I have a feeling this was all due to the recall on the passenger seat occupant detection system.....which I did not know about nor have it checked prior to any of the mentions events. I am very concerned that there is a chance the other airbags may deploy at random. I also would like my car to have all the recalls completed.

The Civic would start for a few seconds and then shut down. The anti-theft immobilizer indicator light came. All three oem keys did not work. This resulted in the need for a long distance tow to the Honda dealership, as well as $209 in repairs. I was told by the service department that the immobilizer module was bad and had to be replaced, along with suggesting a new battery. Keys failing to work"?? come on Honda! of all things to go wrong with a car, this just shouldn't happen. On top of that you stick your customer's with a costly tow in the middle of the winter. What would have happened if I had been stuck in the middle of nowhere, stranded, simply due to my keys failing to work" it would appear your vaunted quality control is slipping the last few years. I noticed there was a "service bulletin" listed for this item, but no compensation forthcoming from Honda.

History from ODI # 10572660: 6-18-09 Honda dealership did Feb 2009 recall (replaced auto-tensioner pivot bolt & reroute belt) at 28,324 mi. 9-15-12 engine failed (48144 mi.) approaching stop intersection. Subsequently would not crank to start. Towed car to service station. 9-18-12 vehicle repaired -- due to broken pivot bolt, a new Honda recall belt kit, including new bolt, belt, belt tensioner assembly & water pump pulley had to be installed. Approximately 20,000 mi. After recall kit & new bolt was installed to prevent the pivot bolt from breaking, the bolt broke and stopped the car from functioning completely. Had I been in higher speed traffic the results may have been disastrous. ----------------------------------------------------------- 12-20-13 car died approaching intersection -- towed for service. Again pivot bolt had broken, causing cascade of events preventing car from functioning -- this time within only 7000 mi. After new belt tensioner recall kit & new pivot bolt was installed. When this occurs, the car is inoperative. This bolt has been replaced three times and broken twice. I am now afraid to drive car for fear of it ceasing to run at any time. Honda internet forums specifically for the 2006 Civic mention many similar occurrences.

Within the last month, our 2006 Honda Civic on two separate occasions, with two different drivers, when the transmission was placed into reverse when backing from a driveway, did not come to a stop. Despite putting our foot firmly on the brake, the car did not stop and continued in reverse. Only by putting the transmission into drive did the car stop from continuing into reverse. On August 30, the car when placed into reverse gear when backing from a parking space, went forward instead. Our car has been regularly maintained and serviced and never had an issue prior to this. We are deeply concerned that the car poses a safety issue, because when moving from a parked position, moves in a direction other than the one that the driver chooses, and did not stop when moving in reverse. This has occurred three times to date within the month with two different drivers.

My 2006 Honda Civic has stalled on me 7 times now. Every time it stalls, I am at a stoplight or stop sign and at a complete stop. The engine goes into idle mode and when the light changes or I can go, I take my foot off the brake and try or start to press the gas. Most of the time I don't even have the opportunity to press the gas pedal before the car stalls. The car completely shuts off. I have noticed the last two times that the car's ac was on during the stalls. Before I restart the car there isn't an error code or anything displayed. I have taken my car to a Honda dealership to have it tested and each time they connect it to a computer and tell me that there isn't anything wrong or they can't produce the problem. There isn't a fuel problem because I put shell gas in my car each and every time and I checked the air filter. I even had a technician at pepboys check the battery. Pepboys said the battery was in excellent condition. I have researched the problem and others on the internet say that it could be the computer's idle speed may need to be readjusted and some say the idle air control valve is faulty. I mentioned the idle air control valve to the Honda technician and they said that doesn't seem to be a problem. There is a problem because others have reported it and the car stalls.

The radio antenna (located in the rear window defroster) is nothing but static. I live in a major metropolitan area and can not get one radio station to come in clearly. I've had the radio replaced and by the dealer when the car was under warranty with no luck. There is no static with cd's - only radio (fm mostly). Wiring in rear defroster/radio is compromised. Honda service dealerships have not been helpful in resolving this issue or informing me of what the issue was.

Automatic transmission failure and electric coolant temperature sensor failure in 2006 Honda Civic ex. Noticed change in driving feel over past couple of weeks--shifting was jerky, not smooth; seemed to rev slightly higher at times while driving. Engine warning light came on 2-13-13 when starting engine. Also, green light next to "drive" on the dash started blinking. Took car into Honda dealership the next day. Was told that the transmission fluid was burnt, transmission had hydraulic issues, gears not shifting properly. New transmission installed. Had all previous regular maintenance performed at Honda dealership, on schedule.

I was driving on I-635 in dallas in stop and go traffic just before the hwy 75 exit in the far left lane. There was an accident and construction ahead so traffic was moving very slow. My car began to vibrate slightly and then inexplicably stalled. I put it in park and then attempted to restart it. The car restarted fine but I was unable to move it out of park. After several minutes the traffic cleared and we were stuck and unable to move while sitting in the fast lane. I was petrified and called 911. After about 15 minutes I called 911 again and explained again that we were stopped dead in the fast lane of a freeway and needed someone fast. After about 30 minutes several police officers, including officer reyes, finally arrived and parked behind my vehicle to signal cars to move over. They attempted to move my car out of park as well but were not successful. They called a wrecker and my car was towed to lute riley Honda. On Feb. 10th, the service mgr at lute riley Honda said the technician found oil in the PCM and that may have been the cause of the issue but he wasnt sure. He blamed the oil on someone spilling oil during an oil change but I said that was impossible since I hadnt had my oil changed in over 30 days. I asked if it could be related to the recall issues and he said no, all the recall issues had been taken care of. I drove the car back to houston and it was fine until yesterday when it repeated the same issue-the car engine would start but it would not move out of park. It was towed to gillman Honda, houston, tx and they told me it was a bad brake switch and PCM.

My Honda has been well taken care of. I have hand waxed it twice a year since I purchased it new in 2006. This past year, the paint on the roof and trunk began to peel off. The car now looks like its 20 years old and Honda refuses to do anything about it. Both visors on the car have broken 3 times, the trunk latch broke ruining $100 worth of groceries and the tires continuously warp due to a defect in the year model. Now, after replacing the battery I cannot get the alarm system to stop sounding. This year model Civic is such a lemon.

The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the hybrid battery was deteriorating. A new software system was installed in order to save the battery. The failure continued and the contact also stated that the vehicle did not always accelerate once the accelerator pedal was depressed. The failure mileage was 76,000.

The acceleration is the dangerous thing - sometimes the acceleration is quite sluggish and this is due to this software upgrade designed to make the battery pack last longer so they don't have to replace it.

Our 2006 Honda Civic ex would not start after driven to a park. When trying to start the car, the dashboard lit up and the starter made clicking noise, but would not start. While checking the battery, we discovered that the entire positive side of cable under the plastic cover was corroded out. Police came and tried to help us to jump the car which was not working. We had the car towed to the nearest Honda dealer piassa Honda in drexel hill, pa which quoted us $1,300 for changing the entire battery cable harness. We were in a shock and refused the service, but had them replaced a new battery then driven home. By doing the research, we found this is a common problem with 2006 Honda Civic. Honda purchased a batch of defected batteries which leaking out acid that corroded out the cable. I'm a die hard Honda fan. My last 1996 Honda Accord had no issue and let me ride it over 330,000 miles with only minimum regular maintenance. My expectation of Honda car is extremely high. I had my entire die hard us car family converted to Honda. Please do not let me down. Sincerely yours

The vehicle was later repaired under NHTSA campaign id number: 11V106000 (electrical system). After the repairs, the dealer was unable to start the vehicle and the contact was advised that the battery would need replacing. The dealer offered to cover fifty percent of the repair costs and the battery was replaced. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 62,000.
