I have had the same issue as others with the drivers side sun visor of my 2008 Honda Civic. While I was driving, driver side visor fell without me touching it. Just, poof, and the visor was in my face! This is a safety concern, if you are driving along and the visor falls unexpectedly into your field of vision, there is a very good possibility the driver could cause an accident.
I purchased this car new, (my second Honda, and I hope that it will not be my last) so I know how the car has been treated. There is no reason this should have happened, My car is very well cared for.
I took my Honda to local Honda dealer, Bill Gatton, and gentleman in parts department knew exactly what I was taking about when I started off with "drivers side sun visor" and I did not have to finish explaining my problem. He told me that there have been numerous owners come in with same problem. Visor will be $56 to replace, it can not be repaired, and $45 to install. This is not acceptable nor is it good customer service, especially if Honda wants customer loyalty. I asked salesman why there has not be a recall if this is a known problem and he could not give an answer. He did advise me to place a call to Honda, here is number if someone out there needs it, 1-800-999-1009.
I just placed call to Honda, representative I spoke, Danielle, with was nice, took down complaint, said she would have a 'case manager' return my call in one to two business days, and that problem may or may not be repaired free of charge. I told Danielle simply that if it was not repaired without charge I would be filing complaint with http://www.safercar.gov/. Which I do will if issue is not resolved.
I asked her why there has not been a recall on the faulty visors, Danielle stated that it may be because there have not been enough call placed about issue.
If you have the same issue, CALL HONDA first to lodge the issue. Then file complaint with government site if not resolved.

The driver's side sun visor is defective and one day just swung down, partially blocking my vision. The plastic parts split open and the rod is partially exposed. This is a safety issue while driving because It will not stay up in its closed position -- until I get it fixed, the visor is either down in front of my face, or if I swing it out of the way, down, blocking my left vision. There is basically a sun visor in my face all the time while driving, even if it is night - the most dangerous time. I have to constantly swing it out of my face, or out of the way - even just to get in or out of the car.
Very gratifying to see that this is a problem with many others, not just me. I am going to take it back to the dealer and hope they fix it. I just now submitted an online safety complaint (as suggested by an earlier post), now that I know others have experienced this too - in such high numbers. Driver side visor will not fully return to it's up position thus impairing my vision. Car was purchased at Carmax and they won't fix it because it's not covered by their warranty.

I had a Nissan Sentra for nearly 10 years and I had this problem only once. I thought I upgraded to a Honda Civic but the quality of the interior is a huge disappointment. The visor is clearly cheaply and poorly designed. I am the original owner, bought it new three years ago and it has approximately 32000 miles. Not only did the tires need to be replaced as they were also cheap, but the brakes needed servicing and now the sun visor breaks! What happened to Honda??

Has anyone had any luck getting the dealer to fix this at no charge? This really seems to be a manufacturing defect, not abuse or misuse on my part. Thanks.
Update from Nov 2, 2010: I'm happy to report that the dealership replaced the broken sun visor-at no charge!! They told me they have had this complaint before. I'm very happy with the resolution of this complaint and the dealership. Go Honda.

In my 2008 Honda Civic the plastic seam of the visor has completely split.apart. I am no longer able to use it. If I pull it down it flops in front of my face, then I have to work with it to even get it to stay up. I am now driving with one hand and the other I am using to block the sun. I feel this is a safety and quality issue. Safety because I am not able to see adequately when driving in the sun, and quality because it should have never been made this way. The dealer and Honda told me they see this a lot, but it's not under warranty, so I have to pay $60.00 to get it fixed or as the told me at the dealership one guy put a screw through it to hold it together. I bought a Honda because I expect a quality vehicle that I do not need to pay to fix the interior. I've owned Honda's for over 25 years and never had a problem before. In fact I had been driving a 12 year old Honda Del Sol, until it was totaled, and never had a problem. It seems to me Honda is no longer concerned with making a quality product. When I spoke to the woman at American Honda (that is when she finally called me back after numerous phone calls) she was rude and would not do anything stating that my warranty was up.

It started about when the car was 2 years old. The hinge mount started bulging and the guts were visible. I could squeeze it and it would pop back closed with a snap. If it was bulging, the visor would not stay in the up position. Finally, it was stuck in the down position only. I thought of the warranty and the dealer agreed to fix if for free. The service adviser said it was more common in hot climates like Florida where I live. I now worry about the replacement. I don't intend to lower it unless I am absolutely blinded. I used to lower if every time I parked to help hold my sunshade. I will stop that practice.

Sun Visor broke and just hangs down, cheap plastic got too hot and can't put the sun visor back up. Haven't checked to see how much the damage visor will cost to replace. I will not buy another Honda, parts are cheaply made and not worth the money I paid.

I purchased my 2008 Honda civic new, and also paid extra for the extended warranty on it (including the bumper to bumper and appearance package). Recently, my visor on the drivers side expanded open at the hinge. I do not use my visor because I always wear sunglasses. I brought the car back to the dealership and after about 1/2 a day of it being there, they called me to tell me the visor was not covered under my warranty because the visor is a part that gets normal wear and tear. I explained that I hardly ever use the visor and that it is obviously an issue with the hinge. The dealership was going to charge me $80 for repairing the visor. I went and picked up my civic without the visor being fixed. I ordered a new visor for $45.00, and will install it myself.
My complaint is, what is the point in paying extra for an extended warranty if it appears as if NOTHING is covered under this warranty. Furthermore, I expect a higher level of standard for Honda. I did nothing to cause this visor to break and after doing
research it appears as if many other people have had the same problem. I'm disappointed in the apathy from my local Honda dealership, and disappointed in the quality of Honda in reference to my warranty and visor.

Driver's side visor was splitting where the plastic meets the fabric really bad, and passenger side was half as bad. Honda had to order both new visors, so tomorrow I will find of if it's same visor or something more improved i.e. no more fabric. will try to take a picture before i bring it in so other's can see what this looks like. yet another reason for me to dislike my honda. :(

Just driving along and BAM! The driver side visor just drops in front of my face.... hard plastic spilt revealing internal nuts and bolts.. now I keep it to the left of my head and pray I don't get pelted by it when I turn right... What a safety hazard and the when I called the dealer they were all "surprised" to hear what had happened.. I recently bought this car from a private seller and this is the first problem I have encountered..
Not sure what to replace them with since after reading everyone else's dilemma I am reluctant to have the same crappy visors put on...... Anyone replace them with something different? Honda better own up or I will be another town cryer on this problem...

The sunvisors on the 06-08 Civic's seem to be very cheap. The problem is the hinge that its mounted on is simply faulty. This is the second time they have broken on me. The first time the car only had about 6k miles and i had them replaced under warranty. I now have scheduled to go in and have them replaced once again at only 30k. Its both the passenger and the driver side. Very annoying when they wont stay upright and you have to drive at night with the sun visors down.
Honda needs to change the whole assembly for anyone who is having problems with it. I know i'm not the only one with this annoying problem and simply replacing just the actual sun visor is only a temporary fix as the hinge will eventually break it again. See the pictures....mind you it was much worse the first time.

Ughhh! It's nice to have a sun visor to use when you want....BUT...jeepers. this thing split apart and only stays in the down position.....highly annoying! Thank God i have warranty to cover it.....and will try to get it fixed this week...I think Honda needs to issue a recall or something....i mean it's a defect, right?

Update from Jul 1, 2010: the dealer repaired it for free! no hassle, said as a goodwill gesture they would just take care of it for me! Robertson's Palmdale Honda, you are the best.

I have the same problem. It broke while my wife was using the car, needless to say I hinted that she had broken it, hoops!, this is the going to cost me! And I agree with most of the other complaints, that Honda will probably just replace the visor, but we will ALL have the problems over again until they issue a recall.

Great!!! Since when did honda start using cheap parts ???? the driver side visor broke today in my car and I was utterly disappointed and MAD . Taking it to the dealer next week. The dealer better replace it for free and honda better recall it !!! I am not happy .

I contacted Honda to see about getting the problem fixed, considering this wasn't an available product to purchase at local autopart retailers. A person from the parts dept. mentioned the problem was relatively frequent and I needed to speak with someone from service/claims who also verified this problem was considerable during summer months, but there is nothing in the warranty that covers this specific part. They shouldn't brag about being "modern or innovative" when they haven't even mastered the SUN VISOR!!

The drivers side sun visor broke (plastic split) and Honda offered to fix it under warranty, but, stated it was a problem and that it would happen again. I drive 40K miles per year. My warranty ran out quickly the first year and I never got it fixed. I just don't use it. After looking online, I am extremely concerned that Honda will not recall it, because it is a major problem. Cars need sun visors and it is a Safety concern to me. I am told that the new visor will break just as easy as this one did. There is no sure fix, just more money. It will take ~$100 to put one on by Honda. How many times am I supposed to fix the same problem.
