So this Cloudy look and clear coat peeling is apparently not uncommon. I bought a Honda because they make a great car and I wanted to keep this one for a long time, my millage is low enough on it that I can get another 5 years on it, but now that the paint/clear coat has started to come off.. this is ridicules!
Honda Canada states that this recall for the cloudy and peeling clear coat is only for the US... That is bull sh*t! Where in the hell do you think my car came from!
So they are telling me that the only warranty on it was 3 years from the date of purchase and well there wasn't an issue then.
The thing is that I live in Kitchener, ON I have seen more civics' in the blue that I have with the exact same problem in the exact same spot! so that is obviously a manufacturer problem.. but nooooo will they admit to that. Nope!
So I need your help! anyone in Canada who has hit similar problem, please send me a message with a pic and contact information. I need to get enough people who will come forward with this to make Honda realize that this is there issue to resolve.
Thank you

We are going to ask Honda for assistance to either repaint the entire car (most of the paint issue is on the hood and the roof) or at least the problem areas

I paid for the extra paint/rust protection 2 yrs later I started noticing spot above the back window
this spot grew, and I now have a few spots that have appeared around the sunroof.
When this started I was told to take it to the body shop for assessment, and in turn it was established that this is not a warranty item, and not a paint defect
So two yrs after having a brand new vehicle....It looked like crap!!
BUT now I am seeing a ton of black Honda Civics on the road with the exact same problem????
there is no way that this is something bird crap or windshield washer fluid has caused

Typical Honda paint issues. Clear coat is peeling away and spreading all over.

HAVE NEVER HAD A VEHICLE DO THIS!! HAD A DODGE CARAVAN FOR 15 YEARS AND NEVER HAD ISSUES. THIS WILL BE A BIG DECIDING FACTOR IF I WILL PURCHASE A HONDA AGAIN. HAVE ALSO NOTICED A LOT OF OTHER HONDA CIVICS DOING THE SAME THING. NEVER WOULD OF EXPECTED THIS FROM HONDA. IT LOOKS TERRIBLE, IT IS EMBARRASSING TO DRIVE. DID NOT REALIZE THIS WAS A CLEAR COAT ISSUE UNTIL A DEALER POINTED IT OUT. CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, DON'T FEEL MY CHANCES OF GETTING IT REPAIRED ARE ANY GOOD. IF NO RESOLUTION IS REACHED I WILL NOT RECOMMEND HONDA FOR PURCHASE. KNOW THAT MY FIRST HONDA CIVIC WAS IN AN ACCIDENT, WAS NOT MY FAULT IT WAS TOTALED FELT THE ONLY REASON I SURVIVED WAS MY HONDA. SO WITH THAT SAID I PURCHASED MY SECOND HONDA CIVIC. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR READING MY COMPLAINT.

I have never had a car paint peel before. I love my Honda, it is the best car I have ever owned mechanically. Never need repairs and still drives like new. It just looks terrible and is embarrassing to drive around with the roof and trunk peeling off!

I know of three 2009 dark coloured Honda Civics with this exact same problem in the exact same place: mine, my son's and our next door neighbour's. This is how we knew that our paint problems weren't just an unfortunate rare occurrence but a defect in the paint that Honda should be responsible for correcting entirely at the company's expense. Honda agreed to pay half the cost of repainting the roof. I'm aware that they have issued a recall in the U.S. but not in Canada. I plan to share my experience as widely as possible in the hope of contributing to such a recall.

Roof started peeling, then trunk. Reno Honda re painted those because of the recall, while at the same time scratching my bumper and putting my spoiler on wrong. They of course said these things were there when i came in. I didn't take pictures ahead of time since I thought they would be trust worthy. Now the clear coat is peeling on back side panels, leading up to doors. I am going to call Honda corp. to see if it's covered all though I'd prefer not to go back to Reno Honda. But, I'd have to...

Received a recall notice in the mail on this car for clear-coat cracking issues (12-049 - using American Honda TSB numbers but I'm in Canada) on the hood and front quarter panels a year ago or so and it certainly does apply to my car. When I went to the dealer last month I showed him the clear-coat peeling like you can see in the pics attached to this complaint.
He sent pics to Honda and Honda responded by saying that only the hood and quarter panels would be repainted, that the other clear-coat problems (roof, trim) were not covered under the recall, nor any other. This despite the fact that American Honda released TSB 13-060, which mentions this exact issue.

trim around windows is cracking and breaking
There was a law suit for the trim on Honda vehicles, but I heard about it too late. The Trim is cracking and breaking...

The vehicle looks like sh*t! After it started with mine I noticed it on many Hondas

PAINT ON ROOF PEELING/FADING AWAY. DEALER SAID IT WAS BIRD POOP, BUT I DON'T PARK UNDER TREES. I PARK IN A GARAGE

I am really a fan of Honda vehicles, this is our third. I am very disappointed in the quality of workmanship of my 2009 Honda Civic LX-S. The clear coat is peeling. I have a 2008 Toyota truck and a 2008 Jeep Wrangler, all were purchased new. No paint problem with them. All are parked in the same driveway everyday. I would think, at a minimum, Honda should repaint the vehicle.
Update from Dec 10, 2014: I called my Dealer, Honda of Clear Lake, ( south of Houston TX near NASA). They acknoweldged that there was a "campaign" out on the paint issues and stated that I bring it in. They stated the Service Manager would have to look at it. I took it in. Waited 5 minutes in Customer Lounge. Manager came in and asked when I could bring it in. He stated it was under warranty, and I would be getting 4800 worth of paint for free. I am extremely satisfied with HONDA OF CLEAR LAKE, and the paint looks great. They did a perfect job. I was concerned that they would just touch up the affected areas. It looks like they painted entire trunk, roof, and hood. My son, who is a mechanic with a trained eye, said they blended it very well. I am EXTREMELY satisified, and will definitely recommend HONDA OF CLEAR LAKE to everyone. I also consider myself lucky, since I have seen the numerous complaints about the paint on this website.

2009 Honda Civic Black Coupe. After having it just under two years the paint/clear coat started peeling and coming off. It looks like someone took steel wool to it and went crazy, so now my newish car looks like a beater and it isn't even paid off yet.

This is my 2nd 2009 Black Honda Civic. The first one was totaled in an accident. Both of these cars were stored in a garage. Both of the roofs on this car have both been peeling. The one I drive now is far worse than the previous 1. I think black paint should last more than 5 years. Our black 2006 ponitac's paint looks much shinier and has zero peeling. It is really sad with such a great car that a simple thing as paint ruins the look of it. It just looks ugly and old now.

Significant clear coat and paint peeling on the roof

Really angry about this peeling paint issue! I have a 2000 Honda Accord that has this exact same issue. I had no idea that this peeling paint issue was anything more than a "lemon" problem with that Silver colored vehicle.....which looks absolutely awful! It looks like a bad manicure! Had it been a bad manicure, the shop would have redone my $25 nails without question. Obviously, the cost of a vehicle far exceeds a manicure, and one would hope that the entire product would be backed by the manufacturer, top to bottom, interior to exterior. Recall the vehicles with peeling paint.
In the 10 years, between the Accord and my Black Honda Civic, wouldn't it be probable that Honda would have addressed and fixed the peeling paint issue? Where is a recall? My mistake....to buy Honda.
I will not be buying Honda again.
