This is the first incident that I have on record regarding the transmission not shifting properly. I have several service records with rick case Honda in davie Florida regarding the transmission. In 12/08 I had to replace my transmission cost $1298. I was never informed by Honda that there were problems with the 2000 Odyssey automatic transmission. On June 23 2010 while traveling from Canada on I-95 the transmission blew with heavy thick black smoke which obscured my vision. Thick black oil spewed everywhere and we were traveling through macon ga. The vehicle began hesitating and it stalled right in the middle of the heavy traffic on I-95. This could have been a disaster because another vehicle could have crashed right in back of us. I had my entire family in the car, my wife and 4 children ages 16,15,11,9. I was able to coast the car off of the ramp. We were greatly inconvenienced and had to stay in macon ga for two additional days and it cost me additional $525 to replace the transmission that I just replaced in Dec 2008. Honda never informed me about the 2000 Odyssey transmission problems that they were aware of since Sept 2002. In Jan 2007 I complained yet again of transmission problems with the same dealership. On 11/26/11 the transmission failed in the middle of the turnpike which it began to smoke and spew oil. Again this could have been a disaster because someone could have crashed in back of my vehicle. Fortunately I was able to coast the car off the ramp at bird road and call aaa. The care is at rick case Honda. This is a very serious problem.

In May 2005 the transmission on this 2000 Odyssey failed and was replaced by our local dealer at no charge under the directions of service bulletin 02-062. The mileage at the time was almost 72,000 miles. We had heard that there had been transmission problems and we thought that the 2005 replacement would have solved the problem. Now, after another 68,000 miles, the replacement transmission has failed. This replacement Odyssey transmission failed after sunset at about 7:00 pm on an unlit two lane country road with little room or opportunity to park safely. My husband, who is almost 70 years old was driving and with no gears barely managed to pull over to the side of the road. It was still dangerously close to the road, but fortunately another driver stopped and helped my husband push the Odyssey a few extra feet to a slightly safer area. We were about 100 yards from a curve where approaching cars could not see us until they were almost upon us. The only protection we had was our emergency flashers. We were approximately five miles from our home in a very rural area with no close services. We had to wait on the side of the road for almost two hours for a tow truck to arrive. It was a very dangerous and frightening experience. Since we have always been meticulous in dealer recommended and provided maintenance, I have no doubt that inadequate and/or shoddy Honda replacements parts are responsible for this failure. That failure put both my husband and myself in a disturbing and perilous situation.

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the vehicle would not shift into reverse and would stall sporadically when driving at various speeds. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer to diagnose the transmission where the dealer advised that the manufacturer would not cover the repairs of the transmission due to the high mileage of the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic to have the transmission rebuilt. There were repairs made to the transmission but to no avail, as the failure persisted. The contact believed that the transmission was defective. The failure mileage was 190,000.

In a school filed trip with 5 kids in the van, after the driver came off an I-75 exit, for every stop at traffic lights, the driver experienced a strong jerking from the transmission whenever accelerating from a stop to 40 miles/hr. Everyone got scared and does not know how the transmission can suddenly behave like that.

I noticed the first shifting problem when I stopped at stop sign. Now the transmission is sleeping all the time. It is very dangerous to drive this van now as the transmission can go any time and may result in major accident. This is a major safety issue. The car does not move even if you try to accelerate.

2nd faulty transmission! my story echoes many others (e.g. ODI 10354768) in that my 2000 Honda Odyssey required a new transmission after 5 years/65K miles (extended mfg warranty covered that one) and now another new one after 5 more years, 60K miles (not covered by Honda; rebuilt through my personal mechanic and aamco). So frustrating, expensive, and mimicked by other Honda owners' experience. What will it take to bend Honda's mgmt to the customer's side?

2000 Honda Odyssey transmission problem in January of 2008, the check engine light came on it my van showing a transmission code. I took it to a Honda dealer because I heard of a class action lawsuit concerning their transmissions. The dealer replaced the transmission with a rebuilt transmission. My vehicle had only @53,000 miles on it at the time. August odf 2010, my check engine light came on again with another transmission code. My vehicle has only @84,000 miles on it. I spoke with ed voyles Honda and Honda customer service. They advised that they are doing nothing else concerning the class action settlement per their Japan office. The dealer advised me that if I would have paid for a portion of the repair it would have came with a warranty. If I knew that I would have paid some towards the repair. I discovered Honda only provided a warranty on the rebuilt transmission until the class action lawsuit expired. 1999-2001 Honda transmissions had a know problem with their transmission. They but a band aid on the problem until the class action lawsuit was over. The rebuilt transmission lasted just a little less than the original transmission. The information I read shows they treated each customer differently concerning the class action suit. The service manager made sure he told me you didn't buy your vehicle from us and you don't have it service here. He was correct and I would be buying one from them either.

2000 Honda Odyssey check engine light appeared and caused extreme erratic shifting. Service depart read code signifying transmission failure. The manufacturer chose to extend the warranty on the transmission in Canada and America. The consumer vehicle was not eligible because the vehicle was no longer in Canada. American Honda claimed that since the vehicle was Canadian they would not provide any financial assistance.

Speedometer was accurate only less than 40 mph. When speedometer indicates 65 mph, it is really 60 mph and 70 mph is 65 mph. The test is perform by using a gps to read the ground speed. The gps work accurately with two other different vehicles.
