This is the first and last Honda i will ever purchase! This is the 4th problem my family has had with this transmission since we purchased the car in late 2005 or early 2006. The worst investment of my life! The first transmission replacement Honda changed it out under the recall with very little hassle, but we should not have gotten any hassle! Honda you need to stand behind your faulty workmanship, and stop replacing the faulty transmissions with the same faulty transmission. The entire concept of a recall is to say "Honda Family" we fixed the problem .. there was a faulty washer or gear etc etc, sorry for the trouble, but your new replacement transmission should last you the life of the vehicle, or 200,000 miles or 150,000 miles, which ever comes first .................. They gave us a 36,000 mile warranty and we were back in to get it replaced well under the 36,000 miles, AND THE SAD PART IS THEY MADE US PAY 250 BUCKS BEFORE THEY WOULD HONOR THE WARRANTY??????????????? How is that for customer service! .... Well approximately 15 thousand miles later the transmission started slipping and behaving weird .... we took it back to Honda .. and just like going to the Doctors, the transmission was acting fine on the day we took it in ... but they did not want to believe the problem was intermittent. So fast forward to January 2nd, at 2am in the morning .. one day after New Years ... My wife and 4 youngest children were stranded on the side of the highway ... My wife called me and told me she thought the engine had caught fire ... she thought the timing belt had went bad and destroyed the engine .... she was pissed off at me for not getting the timing belt replaced .... i thought there was no oil in the engine or no water .... well to conclude .. she paid a taxi 50 bucks to bring her and the children home ... thats when i arrived breaking the speed limit from San Francisco, we had the van towed to the auto shop to discover ... the coolant was filled to the top ... the oil was only 1/2 quart low .. the timing belt was intact .. but you guessed the DAMNED TRANSMISSION BLEW UP ... and had my wife and kids breathing that toxic horrific smell .... at 2 am on the side of the highway ... sad part is ... this time the car is passed the 36 thousand mile warranty and it may not be much we can do .. so i hope there is some type of class action suit we can jump on to get this transmission replaced at no cost ... to an updated version ... just so we can get our money's worth! ... Honda and Toyota ... never ever ever ever ever ........

I will never purchase another Honda Odyssey again. When I purchased the van from a Toyota dealer in Indiana they informed me that there were no recalls on the van. I asked them before purchasing it. It had less than 100k and this was in 2007. Now I have over 160K and when I called the Honda customer service they informed me that there was a recall for my van but now it is too late because of the mileage. I told the lady that I was speaking with that I was going to switch to Toyota and she laughed at me. This only made matters worse. Honda does not have to worry about me purchasing another van and neither does that Toyota place in Indiana. I am highly irate right now. I can not believe that honda customer service just laughed at me. I want to inform everyone not to purchase a Honda Odyssey of any year for they all suck. I am going to spread the news about Honda Odyssey everywhere I go. Every place that I can post this information about honda I will. I am on a mission to see them fail.

Honda doesn't stand behind their products! I had my Odyssey transmission replaced under warranty at 102k miles and I thought, what a great company - they really stand behind they're products, and now I won't have to worry about the transmission anymore (the transmissions in the 1999-2002 Odysseys are known to be faulty). Wrong! The replacement transmission failed after just 40k miles. I called Honda America this morning since I wasn't getting anywhere with my dealer, and they told that the warranty for the defective transmissions only covers cars with mileage up to 109k - after that you're on you're own. But they are the ones who installed the new transmission, and it failed after just 40k miles. Clearly they just stuck a piece of junk in there that worked just long enough to get them out of their warranty obligations. I've owned Hondas all my life, but I will never buy another Honda again after this experience.

Okay, I'm the type of driver that will buy a car, use it until the wheels fall off (i.e., until 250K miles or more). I bought a Honda minivan because I figured it would be like an Accord (we've had 2 Accords already); take care of it, and it won't die. This car is female-driven and BABIED. Tranny started slipping slightly this summer from 1st to 2nd gear. The car has 166K miles on it (barely broken in, if you know Honda!), and it'll cost 3K to fix!!! I bought it 7 years ago (used with 30K on it), assuming I could drive it for 10 years/200,000 miles. Very disappointing! I paid $24,000 for a car that just didn't hold up, in my opinion. I just traded it in for a 2007 Sienna; 'hoping for better luck with the Sienna. I'll let you know in about 7 years!!!

Also, the sliding doors on this vehicle were terrible. We had to have one side repaired two times. My beef with this is that even though this is a HUGELY common problem (and a safety matter, in my opinion), Honda made me pay for the repair (at 40,000 miles!). Honda has gotten a little arrogant in their old age.

Engine is perfect but without transmision it can only be a heater, not a car.

Transmission is worn out so bad that will stock the ATF flow to cool and became overheat quickly. So it will expand and became overflow like excess ATF.

And ATF became dirty so fast that the transmission became even worse. I replace ATF for 9 times now, my car still can move by Nuetral shift position on high way and travelled 11 miles to dealer's shop. Is it amazing! Hooga!! This time save my $$ for tow truck charge.
