Was driving home and started having shifting problems, took it in for service the transmission had to be replaced as well as the radiator. The radiator because I was told they would not warranty the transmission with out it. $ $4,371.08 I was never told about any issues from Honda and I never received any thing from Honda. On 8/27/10 one year later I had to replace the transmission cooler. Then on 9/17/10 they replaced the transmission again. Now the second transmission only has 34,000 miles on it and now they just replaced torque converter and it runs like a truck. The Honda dealer did all the major maintenance. We have owned four Honda's but never again. My son has a 2002 civic and it is on its second transmission. If a recall was on these Honda they never sent me anything and I purchased it new.

Looking into issues with Honda Odyssey transmissions, I believe Honda is negligent in offering any fair solution to a known problem. I think a class action lawsuit is in order. Reading hundreds of examples where transmission overheats after long trip due to restricted fluid flow. Honda is aware of the design issue and has done nothing to resolve. When you go to dealership they say it does not qualify for the recall and you need a new transmission. Going from 65mph to zero in the fast lane of a major highway with my entire family is extremely hazardess and potentially deadly. I thought Honda was supposed to be a quality product? the dealership was friendly but Honda's policy is awful case by case examination. Please someone start a class action, I had aamco rebuild mine damages are towing bills plus repairs call it $3000 in damages times the number of people who have had issues. I was driving home when I felt the vehicle hesitated, it felt as if the vehicle had a clogged fuel filter or a bad fuel injecter. Later I realized that the hesitation was related to the automatic transmission shifting. I took the vehicle to Honda of conyers, paid $100 for a diagnostic and was told that the vehicle is slipping from 2nd to 3rd gear which required a transmission replacement that would cost me $5607 plus tax reman. Or 2835 rebuilt, because my vehicle was out of warranty. I called Honda manufacturer of America and was told that there is nothing that the can do to help me, was told that my vehicle was recalled in may of 2004 and the problem was repaired and that Honda does not pay for related problem after repair has been made on a recall a second time.

The car has an automatic transmission system. I was driving just fine when the transmission slipped and it felt like the car was in neutral. I was pressing the gas, but no power was given to the car. I could brake and steer just fine so I pulled over and put the car into park. It engaged into gear fine and I continued on. This continued to happen slipping in and out while driving. I wouldn't even have to stop and put into park, I would slip "out" of gear and feel like it was in neutral. I would pump the gas a few times, and rev up the engine and then it would magically engage into gear. Honda dealership stated the transmission was bad, stated that pieces of metal were in my fluid and my entire transmission needed replacement. Estimate $2K-4K - will know more when they break it open to find out. Honda America states that I had taken the van in for the transmission recall in 2005 - I don't recall doing that, but if I did why is it happening? now the van will not pass the ca smog test simply for functional check portion. The emission portion is fine. Seems the repairs exceed the value of the car. Working with Honda America to get warranty or recall to offset the cost of repair. At this point, the car is deemed non operational.

We bought a used 2003 Honda Odyssey. We were aware that there was a transmission recall on this particular model. We contacted Honda before we bought our minivan with the VIN number, to verify that the van had the recall work done. It did.... we purchased the van and have been driving it for the past 19 months. We bought the van with 60,000 miles on it. Well this past Thursday the transmission started to slip just a little and it did it again on Friday. Long story short, by Monday our transmission completely went out. We took it to a Honda dealer to confirm and they assured us that we needed to replace our transmission. Our van now has 75,000 miles on it and a bad transmission. We contacted Honda about this issue and they offered no explanation or assistance. They pretty much told us that we were out of luck. We are pretty upset that we contacted them before we purchased this van about the transmission and less than 2 yrs (and only 15,000 miles) later we are paying $3700 to have a new one installed. From what we have read online, this is a common problem with this year of Honda Odyssey and we feel Honda should be held accountable for this issue!! thank you!

Will require replacement. Second transmission failure on vehicle. First came in 2009 at 98,000 miles. Initial rebuild of transmission was done by private reputable transmission station. Complaint filed with Honda usa, no further action rec'd from Honda. Vehicle was purchased at 40,000 miles as certified pre-owned from local Honda dealership.

I was driving up the tioga pass in yosemite national park with my family when the car started jerking violently and abruptly shifting gears. The tcs indicator was on, but couldn't be turned off. I pulled off the road and parked. When I later tried to back the car up, the reverse wouldn't engage and the car almost went down a steep embankment into a lake. There had been no past problems with the transmission. I had the transmission rebuilt and it failed a year later driving at speed on the freeway. I had it rebuilt again and it failed again a year later after while driving at speed on the freeway. In both cases the abrupt loss of power on the freeway could have caused an accident. I'm now told that an additional aftermarket transmission cooler is needed because the transmissions overheat.

On Friday April 26, 2013, my wife with my three small children were traveling on an expressway at 45mph. Suddenly she heard a noise and the car speed was dropped unexpectedly. She was almost rear-ended by another vehicle. On Monday April 29, she brought the car to the dealer for inspection and was told the transmission failed with error code P0730 incorrect gear ration 39. To fix this problem, this dealership quoted for $5,000. I contacted Honda on the same day and asked for their assistance. The case manager told me the car is out of warranty and Honda is not responsible for this part failure. Prior to this failure, I brought my car to the local dealership to fix the recent recall on this transmission. This car has regularly maintained and had no major issues recently. This is a very serious issue and Honda must be immediately addressed. They should standby their products and be responsible for fixing at no charge to the consumers who paid a lot more for the comparable cars.

The first incident occurred while I was driving on a dry paved 4 lane road (moderate traffic) through a residential area, traveling with my 9 year old son seat belted into his seat directly behind me in the middle row passenger seat. I was traveling about 30 mph when the vehicle abruptly upshifted. It jarred me enough that it caused my left elbow to bump the window and it caused me to slightly swerve into the adjacent lane. My son asked me if that was going to happen again. Thankfully it didn't happen again with him in the car. The second incident happened almost a week later when I was traveling 45-50 mph, this time the sudden force left me with a sore elbow. I have parked the van and am now borrowing a vehicle until the repair can be made.

Honda Odyssey 2003 was purchased used on 10/31/06. (no mention of a recall) Jan 22, 2008 van began to slip gears. Had it towed to aamco for transmission repair due to free towing. Charged $3062.06 to rebuild transmission. April 10, 2009 van again began to slip gears. Took back to aamco and needed another rebuilt transmission and 3 mos out of warranty. Charged us $1587.55. June 22, 2010 van is packed with the entire family going to our vacation destination in SC, the transmission again begins to slip. Called the local aamco and they picked up the van. Same story, needed another rebuilt transmission in the amount of $2406.59. After spending our vacation week with phone calls to Honda corporate and aamco to no avail, we had to borrow money from relatives in order to get our family back home. July 20, 2011 van is again packed with entire family to travel to nc vacation. 30 minutes outside of our hometown, louisville, ky it happened again! 13 months after last repair. We had the van towed to our nearest aamco dealer. We fortunately were able to borrow a car from a family member and continue with our vacation trying not to despair. The new tab from aamco is $2835.60. No assistance from Honda corporate nor aamco customer relations. They are very, very hard to speak to. Just leave a message and wait to see if anyone calls you back. This would make it $9891.80 in four years for four transmissions. There is a reason that these transmissions are not lasting. There is a reason why they continue to fail right beyond the annual warranty. This is not right, this is not fair, this is not safe and Honda should back their products and stop ignoring this issue. Update: 01/11/13 Odyssey transmission fails once again on the way out of town and has been towed back to aamco!
