About 1 month after I bought the car, and 1000 miles over its warranty, the passenger sliding door stopped closing all the way. It would still try and shut and the front latch would hold, but the rear latch would close for about 2 seconds and then release. In the middle of a 5000 mile roadtrip no less. No Honda dealer has been able to tell me what the definitive problem is. It also killed my battery completely because the van would act as if door were open the entire time. I live far from any dealership so I've taken to several knowledgeable mechanics and even through using ALLDATA, they've been unable to find the specific problem. They called a Honda Dealership and were told that I had to bring it to them because they had a special computer that would tell them right away. I will be traveling there in 2 weeks because this has gone on for long enough.

We had the passenger side sliding door motor replaced as the door would not close even on manual mode. Took it to Honda, they said it is wear and tear. Funny enough other people who owns vans with more mileage than my car, don't seem to have this wear and tear problem. Since last week, the driver side sliding door jams. When closing, it gets stuck. We lubricated the sliding door. I don't think it will last long. And I am sure the Honda dealership I got the car from will tell me it is wear and tear and $1000 of damage.
Why does Honda not do anything about these complaints. I don't think I ever want to buy another HONDA.

Drove car just fine, parked in a parking lot for 1 hour - got back into the car, started car and when I put the car into gear to drive the slider door alarm was sounding as if the door was open. I pushed the button to close it (although I never opened the door in the first place), but each time I did the door would close and latch and then a couple seconds later it would slightly open itself back up (all by itself). The only thing I could do after several attempts to try to fix it was to manually turn off sliding door alarm and drive home with a door that was slightly open. A little scary to drive with a open door. When I got home my husband took a look at the problem and realized it wasn't just the passenger side it was the driver's side sliding door having the same problem. The problem continued throughout the day and no matter what we tried to do to fix the problem it didn't work. Knowing that this is a serious problem (we certainly don't feel very safe driving our children around in the back seat with both sliding doors ajar, we took the van to Honda first thing the next morning to be checked. Of course, Honda found nothing wrong with it (it has somehow corrected itself, for now!)? I feel that this is an electronic problem and it will happen again, it is just a matter of time. If anyone else has had a similar problem please let us know.

After 3 years of use the sliding doors on both sides starting to act up. Not closing, not locking, not opening, you name it. Repairs included replacing motors, latches, cranks and roller bearings and I had it in the dealership so often that they asked me if I wanted a part time job. Thank heavens I got the extended warranty and some of it was covered but even so I still spent $700.00 out of my own pocket just for the doors so far.

Looking for a do it yourself fix. The sliding doors don't latch all the way. They open and close enough to make the light on the dash come on and off while driving. I have noticed the last 3 times that i have issues with the doors it has been when the ABS and VSA lights come on the dash. Does anyone know how to fix the ABS/VSA issue so the doors hopefully will stop having an issue.

Passenger sliding door would proceed to close , after latch lock would latch, a few seconds later, it would release. One can't lock car by key remote. Alarm will sound to indicate door is not closed, and dashboard display shows door open. only way to proceed to drive is to manually lock door, and turn off switch on dashboard to shut off alarm. Is there a known solution for this condition? Another condition worth noting is that is has been raining for weeks, and it may be water related. Drivers side sliding door works okay. Any suggestions would be appreciated, I am 1000 miles away from home on vacation.
Update from Sep 13, 2009: After I got home from my vacation, I did some research online about my problem. I have a electrical background, so I took the door apart to locate the problem. I have photos that I have taken of the door interior to help explain the fix.
The basic problem was that a mechanical circuit switch within the latch assembly was not being satisfied. Some water had made it's way within the door latch, and had corroded a spring loaded lever. This in turn, was binding the lever which was spring driven, and the switch was not being completed. It was painful to get to, but not impossible. After removing the complete door latch assembly, I was able to remove the corrosion and lubricate the latch and spring. It became functional again, and the circuit works without error. So if you have any mechanical knowhow, dive it and fix your own door. The dealer wanted to sock me with a 800.00 bill to replace the door latch assembly.

Door on driver side has been problematic for 2 years. Originally just seizing up in cold weather. Would need to lock door to ensure it would stay closed and /or not able to open driver door , esp. from the inside until vehicle warmed up. Had in for service but of course would never seize then because already driving for awhile or not cold out. Dealer Sprayed some lubricant in the door but made no real difference. Now we're into summer and door wouldn't close without being locked the other night. Now can't open it from inside or out(power lock in open position). Have to crawl in and out the passenger door. Have service appointment next week with dealer.
Update from Jun 10, 2009: The Cable inside the door (plus a few accessory Parts) need replacing. The was a service bulliten re: the cable freezing up in cold weather and needing lubrication. This is an issue we had to deal with but apparently our vehicle didn't fall within the vehicles identified as having that particular problem. Dealer says that wasn't the problem , at least according to Honda - despite having the same symptoms as the vehicles that were identified as having the problem.
My guess is the wear and tear caused by the cold weather issues has led to the failure but won't be covered by any type of warranty according to the dealer. Was $150 for labor to diagnose the problem. Of course no part in stock, so door all back togrether until part comes in and will be the same 2 hours labor all over again plus whatever labour to fix problem, installing new parts plus cost of parts. To boot they cracked the hard plastic molding on the inside that is part of the driver side mirror support. They didn't happen to mention - I had to notice on the drive home and then bring it to their attention to order the part to replace while doing the other job.
I am in the process of appealing to Honda Canada to provide some ownership of this problem and cover cost of parts and repairs. We'll see. Prior to owning I read much about their good will protection - I've haven't seen much to date.

This door problem turned out not to be electrical at all! It was a defective door latch. We took it to a Honda dealer and they diagnosed it to be the latch and quoted us $500 to fix it. Ugh!!!! That's ton of money. We went to back to our auto body repair shop (since it wasn't electrical) and asked if they could fix it and they did for $230- parts & labor. We just had it done this morning but so far it's working great!!!! Dealer service needs to be wiped out. That is a rip off!

When the temperature was close to 0 in NE, the power sliding doors on the auto would stop in the opening or closing process. Sometimes they would shut part of the way, then stop and go back to the open position, or vice versa. To lube or not to lube.. that is the question.

I am having problems with the sliding door. Is there an option besides taking it to the dealer?

I have an awesome 05 Honda Odyssey but the driver side sliding door has the problem. When I close the door just enough for the electric door closer to catch. The door closes and the with in a few seconds the door ajars (will not close). Is there any one out there with the same problem that I am having. Of course this happens just after my warranty runs out.

In July 2007 my passenger door started having problems opening and shutting. After going through the usual "adjustments" at 2 dealerships and duplicating the problem numerous times at the dealer I finally got a motor replaced along with a few minor parts in November 2007. Through the cold winter months (reno, nv) my door never malfunctioned. As soon as the weather warmed up the problem returned. I have dealt with the service manager and corporate Honda. My case is continuing and still "open" so I have not had to pay for anything. I simply want my door to work! I can say confidently that the local dealer would fix it, however, they do not know how. They have seen the door malfunction, acknowledge it is a problem, but nobody at tech support, corporate Honda or locally know how to fix it. The problem: when pushing the remote/interior button/or pulling the handle the door will try to open (you hear the motor) but then beep and remain shut. It takes 1-4 more tries and it will make a popping noise and finally open. When stuck open, you will hear the motor trying to engage but then it will beep and remain open. It takes 1-4 more tries to close, sometime lunging forward in the process. If anyone knows what needs to be done, please help!

One of the power doors in the 2005 Touring has proven to be a real pain. It started when the door panel was put together incorrectly at the assembly plant, causing paint wear on the side of the vehicle. They fixed this and buffed out the scratches under warranty but it also started misbehaving. The issue is that it doesn't always reliably close, it kicks back open at odd times. 3 different dealers have had a look, each offers an opinion "needs adjusting", or "couldn't reproduce", but it's still not fixed. They charged me $100 for the last adjustment and it didn't fix the problem.
We'll be dumping the 2005 Touring at some point in the future, I would probably not buy another Honda Odyssey, we also had bad luck with a 1999 LX (transmission, air conditioning).

LX does not have power sliding doors. When the vehicle was new the sliding doors were silky smooth. Now, they are difficult to pull open at times, so much so, that many times you would guess that the door is locked or not fully unlocked. It's the initial pull to crack them open that is difficult. I am afraid the door handles will eventually break.

At random (about 10 times since 7/05 purchase), door behind driver will refuse to latch (manual door, not power). After 30 to 60 minutes of trying with lots of WD40, it will latch again.
Honda looked at it with no action on first return, and adjusted door on second return after a year. But a year later, it is still happening.

First the power steering pump, now the passenger sliding door. $381.34. My husband tried to warn me that the more options you have, the more that can go wrong. He was right as usual.
