Odyssey 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 8,000 miles
We own a 2005 Honda Odyssey equipped with the Michelin pax tire system. We have been complaining to the dealer's service dept. About the odd wear (edges worn out while the center of the tread looks fine, and so far they have charged us for an alignment (they said they could not even consider checking into it until we paid for this, and then later told us this was a common complaint with the pax system tires, which leads me to believe that they were only trying to make a few bucks off of us, but that's another matter). The vehicle has TPMS, so we know tire pressure is not a factor (at least if following Honda's recommendations is assumed to not contribute to the wear). We do not drive the vehicle aggressively (it is a minivan, and carries our 2 young children, with my wife being the primary driver, so the odds of anyone with this complaint on the Odyssey are that they drive very conservatively). The dealer has told us for approx 10000 miles (half the total mileage driven to this point) that the wear is not abnormal, but now we can not longer drive the van in inclement weather since the last 1/5 of both sides of the tires have worn to the point of not having any water sipes left to prevent hydroplaning in rainy conditions. The dealers service dept has revealed that they have had numerous complaints about these tires, but Michelin in their typically "holier than though" manner of never making a bad product (this words from the dealer rep) has stone walled attempts at getting them to admit fault with the design or manufacture of the product. Furthermore, they have a monopoly on the product's replacement, leaving customers no choice but to pay a king's ransom for another set of these tires we do not want. We are filing a complaint, and seeking any info on joining a class action lawsuit against Michelin and Honda of America for selling a patently dangerous product to a consumer group who purchased a product with safety being a major factor in the purchase decision.

I own a 2005 Honda Odyssey touring with Michelin pax run flat tires. I was recently informed by Honda service that my tires needed to be replaced (were worn to 4/32nds) at only 17K miles and at a cost of $300+ per tire. Additionally, even to patch the tire with a small nail puncture would cost $90+. I feel that the premature wear on these tires is a defect and the owners of this vehicle are being faced with frequent and costly replacement of these defective tires and/or safety issues with worn tires.

Multiple issues and incidents. Overall significant cooling system design flaws combined with tow package install mistakes leave the cooling lines un-secure and unprotected. 2 ac line punctures, 5 power steering grinding repair attempts to no avail.

Premature tire wear. Honda Odyssey touring has Michelin pax tire system designated as a high-end premium feature safety system. These tires wear out in 23000 miles, which is well below standard tires offered on other Honda Odyssey packages. In addition, the pax system is a proprietary design offered only by one tire manufacturer, is not compatible with standard wheels, and requires dealer/tire service garages to have unique expensive mounting equipment. Few tire dealers support pax. Example: Only one dealer in san diego supports pax. For travelers on the road who experience a failure, it will be difficult or impossible to locate a near by replacement. The Odyssey touring does not come with a spare tire, so the max run-flat distance of 100 mi may not be enough to reach tire store. The Honda sales representatives do not offer any of this information to prospective customers at the time of sale. The Honda Odyssey tour model can not be retrofitted with standard tires due to vehicle's computer system settings.

Odyssey 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 20,000 miles
When purchased new off the lot, experienced substantial pull to the right. Drove 500 miles and returned to dealer for service. Was told they needed to install camber bolts then align suspension (they reduced tire pressure in all four tires by ten pounds). Problem was not abated. After 5000 road trip, returned to dealer to align again(again reducing tire pressure). Six months later was still experiencing pull, but now accompanied by progressively worsening vibration. Dealer rotated and cross switched tires (once again reducing tire pressure). Problem seemed solved. Midway though next 5000 mile road trip vibration and pull started to recur, growing progressively worse as trip was concluded. Now at 26000 miles both front tires have substantial wear and need to be replaced and the car once more needs to be aligned.
