While on vacation in Williamsburg the VSA light on my van came on along with the check engine light. I immediately called the nearest Honda dealer and took the van in the next morning at 7:30 am. The technician said that the van was 2 quarts low on oil when they checked it. I had had the oil changed 4000 miles before but they had no explanation of where 2 quarts would have gone as there were no leaks.
When I returned home I called my local dealer and they informed me this is consistent problem on some Honda engines of excessive oil consumption. They said they will take care of it and give extended warranty. We will see
When I take it tomorrow.

excessive oil usage led to engine damage
I am religious about having my oil changed. I get it changed every 5000 miles. I was just informed that my engine is ruined because of low oil. I had the oil changed within the past 2 months and was well within the 5000 miles. Does anyone know more about how this could have happened? The dealership said there are no leaks. Will Honda do anything on the cost to replace my engine?

I go through 4-5 quarts of oil every 2,000 miles. Typically when I check the oil, there is barely a drop on the very bottom of the dip stick. In September the check engine light came on and my mechanic found that cylinder #3 was misfiring. The car needed a new ignition coil and new spark plugs. I have read these issues are common as a result of the oil leaking into the engine cylinders.
As others have stated my low oil light has never activated. This must only come on after the engine has seized!
My mechanic says to contact Honda and if they won't do anything to get rid of the car.
Has anyone had Honda replace the engine due to this issue? I recently found that there is a class action lawsuit against Honda for this oil consumption issue. It doesn't sound like they are doing more than reimbursing for repair expenses.
Is there a fix for this problem?
