I was out of state on vacation. While driving my car in the city, a 2018 Honda Odyssey exl purchased Oct. 2017 with only 6000 miles, the engine light came on and I got an emissions warning notice that I needed to get the emissions system checked. I called a local Honda dealer and he told me to drive it around for a week and see what happened; ie: If the message went away or something happened to the car. After a week I called the dealer again and he told me to bring the car in to be checked. They gave me a loaner car to use. After approximately 3-4 days he called and said there was evidence of rodent chewing on the coating of the wires. He said the cause was wire harness chewed causing short in shielded wire. He said he needed to keep the car another couple of days to check all the wires. He called me back a couple days later and said that the whole system was affected and needed to get a new harness. Apparently the coating on the wires was soy based. I did some checking and there were several law suits against several auto manufacturers in 2014 and 2015 about this problem of rodents eating the coatings on the wires. I had to wait 2 months before getting my car back as the harness was on back order. The total cost of this was $2619. I had to pay out of pocket $500 and my insurance company paid the rest. I feel that this should have been covered by Honda as they have known that this was a problem for several years and yet they still were putting in wiring coated with soy based product.

Entire dash turned off while driving including speedometer and information screen-replaced radiohead. All warning lights came on while driving-replaced fuel injectors. Popcorn sound and warning light came on while driving after picking up car from getting fuel injectors replaced-stating it's a bad rear entertainment system. I bought my car 1 year ago and it's obviously flawed.

Driver door does not unlock. The automatic unlock beeps like it is working, but does not unlock the door. I have to crawl into the back and then I can unlock driver door internally. This problem occurs randomly making it hard for dealership to see problem and fix. They will not fix unless it can be repro ducible. I have found that there is a forum with a lot of people having this same issue and unable to get fixed due to Honda wanting it reproducible.

Touring-rear entertainment system shuts off to black screen and cabin watch loses signal and gives an error code. While driving long distances, the kids can only watch the first 30 minutes of their dvd before the system seems to overheat and completely shutdown. We have resorted to turning it off to let it cool down ( dvd that is removed from the player comes out scalding hot) before retrying to let them watch and have it fail a few minutes later. Cabinwatch seems to act up at the same time the rear entertainment system fails.

Sliding doors will not close. Sometimes the door will close almost to the end and then recoil or the door will not close at all (it just beeps). A large number of people appear to be having this issue with all sorts of fixes that are not solving the problem (https://www.odyclub.com/forums/81-2018-Odyssey/309801-driver-S-side-sliding-door-stopped-closing.html#/topics/309801?page=6) and appears related to nhsta complaint number 10136418. Dealer inspected and replaced motors on both doors per Honda's recommendation. Problem immediately reappeared making it so the door cannot be closed unless disengaging the power to the doors, exiting the vehicle, and manually closing the doors. It happens every day and is getting worse.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. While driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle jerked and the engine revved. The contact stated that the engine remained on, but the vehicle did not shift into drive or reverse. All the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. Prior to this, while driving different speeds, the vehicle decelerated, lost power, and shut off. The vehicle was taken to perfection Honda (2603 american rd SE, rio rancho, nm 87124, 505-221-5084) where it was determined that there was no failure. The failure recurred several times and the vehicle was taken to the same dealer who was unable to duplicate the failures. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and stated that they would be investigated. The contact stated that nothing was done. Also, whenever the spare tire was in use, all the safety systems, such as the lane keep assist, lane departure warning, collision mitigation system, and the adaptive cruise control system turned off. The contact took the vehicle back to the same dealer who was unable to duplicate the failures and stated that the vehicle was operating as designed. The contact was provided a loaner vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000.

On March 24, my 2018 Honda Odyssey shifted into park at 65 mph on I-95 in philadelphia. The Honda rep, oliver (a Honda employee), explained to my husband that when the computer in the car connected to the collusion avoidance sensor disconnects, a computer assumes the car is off and that forces the car into park regardless of the speed it is going. This is what happened when I was driving, the entertainment panel screen went blank and while it was rebooting, I lost all control of the car, no gas, no brake, steering was difficult. When it reboot, it was in park and the engine made a terrible noise like metal hitting metal. I was barely able to steer the car to the side of the highly with my three children ages 8 months, 2 years and 4 years old in the car. The Honda rep believes the problem has to do with the way the power cable is connected to the battery. He explain that this caused the sensors to disconnect intermittently. The rep, oliver, blamed the problem on the dealership during their repair of the car for an unrelated issue. However, this is incorrect. The car front sensor have been losing connection to the computer since we took it home before the dealership touched the battery. There are other issues with this car's electrical and computer system that I would not bring up, but oliver's description of the car computer system makes it relevant. He explained that the car has 6 computer connected with ethernet cables. Much of the work for the basic function of the car and transmission is done by the computer that also runs the entertainment system, the big screen common in the front panel of cars. Oliver explained when one computer gets bogged down, it takes the entire system down. Our car and a lot of other 2018 Honda Odyssey have a known flaw that Honda has not fixed in well over a year. The bug, take the camera and retainment system down

I purchased a brand new 2018 Honda Odyssey elite.. (their higher trim) $50K as soon as I drove off the lot. The car gave me an error. I ignored it. I took it to the dealer ship they install a new battery that apparently this is a special kind of battery. The problem with the rear entertainment system keeps in default. I took it in 6 times already no solution just run around. When you start everything is fine after 10 minutes of playing anything the screen goes crazy. I attached pictures. Nothing works. Some times if you restart the car you are lucky and you get picture. But must of the time you have to wait for a few hours. I think Honda deserves a visit to make things right. I called the dealer ship several times but they told me to call corporate which I did and they open a case. But no solution yet.

1. one of the two keys provided did not open the doors. We took it to the service center and it was reprogrammed. 2. a few weeks later, the driver door would not unlock, not even from the inside. They had the door latch replaced. 3. last week the back door would close but would not lock by itself. On the way to the service center, we went over a speed bump and the transmission shifted into neutral gear and shut off. An "emission system problem" warning light came on on the dash. We called road assistance to take it back to the shop. They ran extensive tests but could not find anything wrong. The technician working on it, hooked up a computer and took it home. The next day he called and indicated the transmission control computer was defective and would order it to have it replaced. Today.

On June 3rd my 4 yr old daughter was securely restrained in her britax clightight 5 point harness in the seat behind the driver in the middle row. We were parked in a parking lot after a grocery trip and I was getting ready to return home after shopping. I put her in the car and closed the door of the van. She tried stopping the door with her foot but her foot didn't reach the pressure sensor on the outside of the door (the thin black tubing on the outside of the vehicle) so the door closed on her foot causing bruising.I talked to 3 Honda dealers and I have a complaint filed with Honda. When Honda returned my call I was instructed that his job was to inform me that the vehicle has limitations and that the last three inches of the door is the "point of no return" where the door needs momentum to lock. The last experience was at the Honda store where a salesman showed me the 2019 Honda. I described the incident to him and asked him to try stopping the door from the inside without touching the sensor on the outside. He first touched the outside sensor. I had him retry stopping the door only applying pressure to the inside of the door where my daughters foot was. He said the "point of no return" argument from Honda over the phone wasn't true because the pressure sensor stopped the door when he touched it an inch from the door. He told me he thought it was odd because the tailgate retracts when touched. He told me he was going to find out who I should contact but never got back to me. No one can tell me how much pressure was applied to my daughters foot that caused the serve bruising.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. While stationary, the vehicle would not turn off when prompted. On more than one occasion, all of the doors failed to open when prompted by the key fob. In addition, the brake mitigation engaged with a visual and audio alarm; however, there was no other vehicle around. Furthermore, the instrument panel indicators did not illuminate when the vehicle started and the cross-traffic monitor malfunctioned and had to be turned off. Del ray Honda (2500 South federal highway, del ray beach, fl) was made aware of the series of failures. The battery and the tuners were replaced on the vehicle, but the failures recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and provided the contact with case number: [xxx]. the failure mileage was 636. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

The center console, which is the monitor that utilizes gps navigation, rear view camera display, controls heat/ac, volume control, etc. Has continued to fail since date of purchase (7/15/17). The monitor shuts down at random times, for unidentified reasons, leaving the driver, distracted and attempting to resolve. The shut down can occur while in the van is moving or stationary. Navigation shuts down while the driver is in route to a location causing significant distraction. When the system shuts down the heat/ac also shut down forcing the driver to manually adjust, which while driving is an unnecessary distraction. Honda was made aware of this problem in August 2017. We brought our van in to the shop twice and no resolution was found. We filed a complaint with Honda America (voice mails are retained as record). After several months of no resolution, Honda american told us our case was being closed because the company continued to have no resolution. 7 months after purchase the center console/monitor continues to randomly fail. Sometimes the monitor goes black, some features work while others stop (for example the radio may work while the screen is black). Sometimes the monitor goes blue and everything shuts down. Photos and videos of these occurrences were submitted to Honda via email. The promoted features by Honda America lead the buyer to believe there is added safety in this van. The opposite has turned out to be true. These failures cause serious safety concerns for the driver and the young families utilizing the van.

1. ) fuel efficiency is not as reported; it is several mpgs lower under all conditions (highway/city). 2.) safety sensor to alert for pedestrians on sides/front do not work properly. Even service rep at dealership said she has had other reports of it not functioning properly and the sensors/system may need to be 'reset'. it is incredibly dangerous to think these systems can fail without any warning message or notice. Car was at a stop and as it started moving forward, a pedestrian came from the right front and was nearly hit. There were no advance warnings, audio/visual to alert the driver. Also after checking with a friend, we could not trigger the alert walking from right to left (from side to front) of vehicle. No accident occurred, thankfully, but people need to know these systems fail and need to be checked to notify of oncoming pedestrians/bikers/vehicles. I bought this expensive vehicle because it had 'sensors' and thought it would be far safer according to sales guy. Not the case. The public is being misled.

On Saturday, 1/27/18 at 9:17am mountain time we were driving in a residential neighborhood following a silver SUV. As we approach an intersection with a green light, the SUV in front of us turned on their blinker to slow down to make a right turn. We were following behind at a safe distance. The SUV slowed down considerably to make the turn, but we remained behind at a safe distance as the SUV made the turn. The automatic collision detection system on our Honda Odyssey flashed a warning, as I've seen before, and the warning was appropriate given the situation. The SUV completed its turn and I reapplied the gas in the intersection. As I did so, the vehicle automatically braked, very hard, causing us to almost come to a complete stop in the intersection. I assume that we were traveling at a speed of appx 15 miles per hour as we entered the intersection. We were almost rear-ended by the car behind us (who honked at us, and with good reason). There was absolutely no need for the automatic braking to engage in this situation. Furthermore, the braking would have happened much too late to avoid a collision had one been imminent. The feeling of losing control of driving your own vehicle is extremely unsettling. While I like the idea of the automatic braking feature, this event is incredibly concerning. No one was hurt and nothing was damaged luckily. But, this easily could have caused a significant accident.

The van will stall after stopping. While turning right, I stop at a stop sign, waiting and when it's safe, go to start to turn, pushing the accelerator and the van will stall. It will take me releasing the accelerator and pushing it again to get it to move again. This is terrifiying. This has happened upwards of 20 plus times since purchasing the van in August 2017.
