My vehicle had an ongoing water leak into the rear hatch area and under into the spare tire area under the carpet/removal floor. The leak could not be traced for months and came and went. Finally from another owners help we traced it to the panoramic sunroof. The outer plastic "frame" that helps support and fit the sunroof to the car cracked on the passenger side rear. It was approximately above the rear seat headrest or just behind it under the headliner. Dropping the headliner was necessary to find the crack and leak. If the car sat on a slight incline with the rear of the car at the lowest point about.5" of water would accumulate into the spare tire area over time. Granted the amount of water that leaked in depended on how much it rained and for how long. Also during this same time that the leak was ongoing, the sunroof would make excessive creaking and noise when driving over uneven pavement. I cant help but assume that the crack was either developing or already present while the noise was heard. The sunroof ended up being replaced under warranty.

Driving on the interstate when a loud explosive sound like a gunshot occurred. The car shook violently, I thought I had been hit, although nothing had been close to me. When I realized I was still driving on all four tires and not flipping end for end, though the wheel was still vibrating violently, I felt glass raining down on my head and there was extensive air noise. I looked up and almost all the entire panoramic sunroof was gone, and what was left was falling on my head. The road was smooth, there was no overpass near, and no cars were in my immediate vicinity. I pulled off the interstate and called the dealership.

My car intermittently won't start. It happened for the third time in 10-11 months just two days ago and is in the shop again. The shop hasn't been able to find anything wrong with it, but the lights have never been left on nor has a door been left ajar because it wouldn't allow me to set the alarm if this were the case and the alarm has been set correctly each time. Last time this happened, 6 months ago, they performed a test on the battery and it tested poor so they replaced it convinced that was it, though I told them I didn't think that was the issue with it. Now, one of my warranties has timed out, but it did the same thing again with a brand new battery. I did a search and someone pointed me to this website because others have had this issue with it. I am trying to figure out the best way to get the dealership to correctly identify what the issue is so it can be fixed once and for all. I have seen, in the search I did, that others mentioned things like the shift interlock, range switch, faulty rain sensor, shifter assembly, or shifter assembly cable. I am wondering if this is a common complaint with this car? the car was sitting in my garage and had been driven with no issues less than 24 hours before. It was so dead it wouldn't even unlock using the key fab. I used the key to unlock the door, no lights went on, it was completely dead. When the tow truck came, they hooked it up to the charger to be able to move it out of the garage onto the truck and within just a few seconds the car's lights turned on and the alarm started going off. He was able to start it and drive it onto the truck then with no issues. I have invoices from the past showing what tests were performed, but essentially they have tested the alternator and starter and said they tested for a parasitic draw, but so far the only actual fix they have done is to replace the battery 6 months ago.

Over the past two years the car will get shifted into drive and a blank space will go where the D is supposed to next to the speedometer. Upon stopping and trying to park, the gear shifter gets stuck in neutral and will not move to park. You must restart the car in neutral just to put it in park. This has happened at least three times in the past two years.

The car intermittently won't start. Sometimes it starts on the second attempt. Sometimes on the fifth. So far, I haven't had to have it towed, but I never know when this is going to happen. I've taken it to the dealer twice and an independent car shop once, and they haven't been able to fix the problem. There are many complaints online about this happening; a recall is needed.

On or about 10/20/2016 my car all of a sudden would not start, I was working out in the field went into a patients home and the car as I turned the ignition key, nothing happened. The lights would come on and off. Called lutes Kia for service. They said it was battery put new battery in. The next day the exact same thing happened would not start, called lutes Kia after several days I was told they were not sure what was wrong and replaced the starter. I get my cars oil changed every 3000 miles, keep up on my maintenance. Electrical is affected something keeps shorting out head lights/ tail lights. I have receipts and service orders. It loses power on load and is very unstable. I have been pulled over several times because of the headlights and turns on when it wants to.

The engine of my 2013 Hyundai Elantra gls failed to start the morning of 1/3/17 while parked in the driveway. I turned the key in the ignition numerous times without success. The dash lights would illuminate, but the car wouldn't start or even try to turn over. After appx. 15 attempts, it finally started. I bought a new battery hoping that would fix problem. However, the problem repeated on 1/18/17, again while parked in driveway. After roughly 50 attempts to start the car and trying to wiggle the gear shift, it finally started. I then drove to the dealership and left the car with them overnight. The following day I was advised by the service department that since they could not get the car to duplicate the problem or trigger any diagnostic codes, they could not repair it or replace any parts. Fortunately, to date I have been in safe places during daylight hours when my car failed to start. However, I may not always be so fortunate and could possibly be stranded in a very vulnerable location in the future. Out of the 430 complaints listed against the 2013 Elantra on the NHTSA website, roughly 7% of the owners reported experiencing this identical problem. A further search of the internet reveals many, many more such complaints. One might believe that could indicate the existence of a widespread problem; yet, it does not appear that the manufacturer has issued any recalls or service bulletins specific to my vehicle model to address/fix this engine failure.

The panoramic roof spontaneously exploded while driving at highway speed. On I-495, the beltway around DC, the roof shattered while driving at ~65 mph. It sounded like a startling shotgun blast followed by falling glass and loud wind noise. The only barrier between me, the driver, and large shards of broken glass was the inner roof shield, which was fortuitously closed, otherwise the shattered glass unexpectedly falling on my head/cutting me while driving would likely lead to my face, head and arms being cut, a highway collision or worse, a multi-car collision.

Around 40,000 miles the car randomly would not start, leaving me stranded. I took the car in several times and dealership could not detect an issue. 2nd time I dropped off, a misfire was detected and ignition coils where replaced due to defected coils. I picked up my car and 11 days later the car wouldn't start up again. Its been in the shop for 3 weeks now. Last I heard they are replacing: The shifter assembly, transmission range switch, and brake switch. I have yet to hear if the parts came in and if this will fix the issue. I received a call on 11/3/2016 and now the engine needs to be replaced. There is a serious issue with the car failing to start and Hyundai cant even figure it out, as of today they had my car for a total of 25 days and still no resolution. Something needs to be done and recalled. Ive contacted Hyundai Consumer Affairs directly and have a case with them going on. I see several complaints of this same issue happening on this model, I hop this will somewhat help. Be consistent and don't take no for answer, I am still making car payments on something that is not working nor I have is unfair. Since the car is less than 60,000 miles this will be covered under warranty, it should of had to take me 3 times, calling a manger and going to Consumer Affairs for them to finally take my issue serious.

Vehicle was stationary. Check engine light and lack of digital engine temperature gauge alerted driver to issue. Upon inspection at authorized Hyundai service center, it was noted that rodents had gnawed through wiring and connectors located in the engine bay. Per service center's recommendation, vehicle was considered unsafe to drive, and vehicle was left at service center pending appropriate repairs/replacements. It was noted that the wires that were chewed through were coated with soy-based materials instead of plastic which had been used in earlier models. Service center claims to see this issue at least a few times per month. Rodent deterrent tape is being purchased from Honda (who already acknowledges this issue and is current the subject of a class action lawsuit). Tape will be wrapped around wires following repairs.

Repeatedly white cloud smoke from tail pipe when suddenly accelerating from 20 to 40 miles/hr. It has happened several times now. Same problem has been encountered by other same model car owners as I found on internet. No one seems to know the cause some theories - oil or coolant burning from worn-out valve rings, or water condensation possibly from muffler leaking. Seems other Hyundai models, such as accent, have also same problem. My car has done only 30K miles. Others had same problem at as low as 14K miles.

Rear of the vehicle tends to fishtail or sway at speeds above 40 mph while operating on snow covered roads, during rainy road conditions, when the vehicle travels uneven pavement such a steel bridge deck joints. I checked and there were approximately 20 simliar complaints in the first 80 complaints that I looked at. So 25% percent of the first 80 complaints that I looked at for against this car are similar in nature. These condition is very dangerous and should be addressed. I called the dealership and he declined to say there are any known issues as described. I just mounted my winter tires and was made aware of severe wear as if only 1/3 of tire is actually in contact with the road surface. If this is the case, that would explain why the car is unstable in poor weather conditions. I just had the alignment checked and it was fine. The poor design of the rear end as far as tracking goes could explain why tires are wearing out prematurely and why the vehicles fishtail. Listed below are similar complaints: NHTSA id number 10785827 10782948 10782179 10777921 10776596 10749640 10748705 10726713 10722309 10721075 10716682 10713795 10712467 10706333 10704445 10695023 10694257 10691288 10680416
