The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 17V226000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the part for the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact heard a knocking noise coming from the engine whenever it was driven. The contact took the vehicle to the North end autoshop and the starter was replaced, but the failure recurred. The contact stated that the knocking became louder and pulled the vehicle over. When the contact attempted to restart the vehicle, it failed to start. The contact had the vehicle towed to a certified mechanic who informed the contact of the recall. The starter was replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

I have brought this car to my local Hyundai dealership at least 4 times within this last year with the most recent time being about a month ago, about a knocking noise coming from my engine that was so extremely loud when driving. The car hesitates and/or stalls everytime the knocking noise is present and, each time I bring it to the service department they tell me nothing is wrong with the car. The one time I brought the car for that problem they told me it was my rotors that needed to be resurfaced and charged me a few hundred dollars to "fix" it only to one week later have the knocking present again. I do not fell safe in this car driving always afraid that I'm going to stall out while im driving on the parkway or any other kind of highway where high speeds are present. Also, three things within the last month that is electrical has completely gone on the car one after another. My car is once again getting fixed which I was just informed will be another few hundred dollars. My car is a 2013, I shouldnt be having the problems im having and shame on lester glenn Hyundai for telling me numerous times nothing was wrong with my engine when the exact problems im having are identical to the recall. Any documentation you need is at the dealership in their computer systems.

Engine seized, thankfully I was barely leaving my home. Engine totally failed with no warning. No check engine lights went on until after the engine failed. Engine also began smoking. Hyundai concluded the car had total engine failure. The car received regular maintenance/ oil changes and taken care of. Being a 2013 should not have had engine failure.

Notice hesitation with vehicle when accelerating both on highways or from lower speeds on any roads. Assumed this might be normal for a 4 cylinder engine, however, I am now concerned it is related to recent recall of the make, model, and year of my vehcle for engine manufacturing problems related to stalls and increased risk of crashes.

I was driving on the interstate at 70 mph and started a faint rattelling noise coming from the motor compartment. I thought it might be a wheel bearing.traveled 3-4 more miles, then with what I would describe as complete motor failure, aloud clattering noise from the engine compartment and lose of power happened. I immedietly pulled over to the side of the highway a and snd looked under the hood. I checked the oil level and it was fine, but it was very black and smelled burnt. I called for roadside assistance and the vehicle was hauled to the nearest Hyundai dealer. 1st thing the service dept. Person did was check the oil and said that it was fine also. They then took the vehicle inside, they drop the oil pan and found pieces of metal they thought to be from bearings from the bottom end of the motor. I had just bought this used vehicle in September 2016 and the motor failed in November 2016 almost 2 months to the day I bought it. It was purchased from a Hyundai dealer so the vehicle was inspected and certified. The motor and the turbo both had to be replaced at the cost of $6364.11 out of my pocket. The service manager tried to get some sort of goodwill help from Hyundai and they refused. To say I'm not happy is an understatement, I did file a complaint with Hyundai motors usa. I've been doing investigating on the internet and I'm finding other people with similar problems with their 2013 2.0T Santa Fe's.

We were driving the vehicle on the highway around 60 mph, the vehicle stalled in the middle of the highway with no prior warning, no check engine light, no overheating.... the engine has oil and the radiator is full of antifreeze. We took it to a Hyundai dealer, they advised the engine is locked up and we need new engine that costs $8500. According to some reviews on the internet, this has happened to many people and Hyundai ended up replacing the engines for them. I called Hyundai customer care center, they refused to do anything about it because the car is out of warranty period (79K miles). It looks like this is a common defect in these cars and the manufacturer should recall these engines.
