The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that the vehicle suddenly lost power and there was a drastic reduction in speed to the point that the vehicle could stall. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 17V226000 (engine and engine cooling). The dealer (sacramento Hyundai, 6250 florin rd, sacramento, ca 95823, 916-427-1234) indicated that they performed the recall repair, but the engine seized shortly afterwards. The vehicle was unable to be driven and the dealer refused to repair the vehicle again. The dealer also indicated that the vehicle was out of warranty. The contact explained to the dealer that the replacement part for the recall failed; therefore, she should not be responsible for replacing the engine. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was awaiting their response. The approximate failure mileage was 101,000. The VIN was not available.

The head gasket blew at ~91,000 miles. It had a dragging/sputtering sensation in idle and then began making a loud noise as I was driving. Dealer replaced the short block and said they rebuilt the rest of the engine because the long block (they admitted that the entire engine needed replacing) was on back order for 2 months. It was covered by the 100,000 warranty. As it stood, the short block took a month to get in. Four months and ~8,000 miles later, the car again had issues. Initially it was thought to be in the engine, and I was told I needed a new engine again. Then they said it was the cooling gasket. Finally they said the coolant system (which connects to the engine) was warped and also needed replacing. They claimed it was no longer under warranty but replaced it anyway in good will. I maintained it was connected to the earlier repair caused by the engine malfunction. On my receipt at pick-up, it said the cooling hoses were soft and would need replacing asap, but no one mentioned it to me nor offered to fix it (me paying or not). I read it several hours later after I'd left. I'm over 100,000 miles now and hearing new noises. I'm holding my breath until I can take it in to be checked.

  • 50,000 miles
Vehicle stalls while sitting idling waiting at stop lights problem is intermittent and unpredictable. Engine shutters while idling as well. Vehicle loses ability to accelerate when this occurs requiring the driver to put the vehicle in park, turn the engine off, then restart the vehicle. Safety hazard in busy traffic. Additional issues with slippage sounds from the axels when turning corners. Problem may be linked to other open recalls involving manufacturer reported machine errors during the manufacturing process that causes premature bearing wear within the engine. The noted safety risk on other VIN numbered models within the same class is that it may cause the vehicle to stall, increasing the risk of a crash. This vehichle was just purchased from carmax Virginia three days ago. Issue was not obvious at the time of purchase. There were no open recalls for this VIN number at the time sale was made, but issue is quite present at 50,000 miles and I have contacted carmax to inform them of the issue. This particular problem seems consistent with all models of Hyundai manufactured around 2014. A national recall of the entire line should be considered to alert consumers and avoid unwanted purchases and or damaging accidents.

There is a recall on the engine for 2014 Santa Fe recall # 162.. I was informed by Hyundai mfg that my car needs to be inspected right away. My engine is vibrating and the engine light came on three times. I am at risk and very concerned. The dealer did absolutely nothing and advised that theres no remedy. The mfg however is saying there''s a remedy to replace the engine block. Very frustrating dealing with the dealer but gave car back to me. I would like to get to the bottom of this engine recall and what exactly is going to be done about it. I pray that I will be safe and my kids.
