I was parked. I started the car and put it in reverse to move it closer to a building, from one side of a dirt driveway to the other. When I started backing up everything seemed fine but after a few, maybe 3 seconds, the engine started roaring and the car took off at tremendous speed. I don't know how fast the car went.I hit the building, that's what stopped the car. I don't know if it would have stopped otherwise.

While driving on a highway, engine made loud noise (not continuous) but several times. Was less than a mile when the power cut out and I drifted to the merge area and off to the side. No indication that anything was wrong- no check engine light, just stopped. Had auto towed to our mechanic and he did a thorough check - indicated there were slivers of what appeared to be metallic pieces in oil (oil was just changed less that 1000 miles). Mechanic declared engine was dead-

Sonata

  • 60,000 miles
I was driving my 2012 Hyundai Sonata to visit family for thanksgiving. Halfway through the trip I heard a rubbing, grinding noise. I stopped and looked under the hood and could not find the source, but figured it was a belt issue since the check engine light was not on. I called the nearby Hyundai dealership to see if they knew what it could be. They did not but checked my VIN for recalls. I was told there were no recalls so I headed towards the dealership for a diagnosis. Soon after getting back on the road a loud bang occurred and the exhaust started smoking. I pulled over to call for a tow and again opened the hood. I noticed a fire had started under the engine so I got my wife out of the car and the car became fully engulfed. Called 911 and a fire unit responded to put out the fire. Car was then towed.

I was driving in downtown Chicago when all of the sudden my car engine made a knocking noise and it shut down I rolled to the side started it again but same noise happened I contacted my mechanic he said it might be out of out I towed it to nearest mechanic shop they said your engine blow up they wanted to charge 4500 dollars plus tax to get used engine so I started to call other mechanics to look for cheaper service and one of the mechanic told me before I do that I should contact Hyundai because they had recall for engines on my car. I contacted Hyundai motors and they said its true I typed in on their website my VIN number and it gave me 4 codes for recall that were not completed and it gave me option to schedule appointment so I towed my car from one shop to that Hyundai dealership. They inspected it and said I will not be covered because I have 143000 miles on my car. I just think its clearly not my fault because non of the indicator lights or warning lights went off before my engine died. I am just so upset because I am still paying for this car and now I have to get new motor that is so expensive just because their computer or engine has failed to let me know that is something wrong going on inside of the engine.

Sonata

Every owner of a 2012 Hyundai Sonata that has over 130,000 miles that I talked to complains the car uses far too much oil (3 to 4 quarts between oil changes) under normal driving conditions. If you are not aware of this issue and do not check you oil weekly, you will ruin an engine due to lack of oil.

My 2012 Hyundai Sonata engine has seize after researching came across a sight that requested my VIN # and advised me that there was a recall on 2011 and 2012. Upon entering my VIN it stated your car has been affected. And direct me to call a dealer for inspection. The car was towed to the doral Hyundai dealer and inspected the put in a claim and I was denied. The reason was I have a rebuilt title however the customer relation said that that didnt matter it was because it was previously inspected in 2015. For me a recall is a recall which a safety issue which has to be granted by law and the second customer relation rep agreed after he research is story I was denied because my title is branded....3 different storyies sombody please help Hyundai's number for this recall is 132; owners may also refer to NHTSA campaign number 15V568000.

Sonata

Sudden unintentional acceleration on a highway going approximately 45 mph. Saw brake lights on vehicles and started braking. Suddenly, my vehicle sped up, catching up to the vehicle ahead of me. The front of the car was bobbing up and down, but not stopping the vehicle. I do not know how fast I was going when I finally hit the other vehicle. We both got out of our vehicles and to my surprise, there was no damage on either vehicle. (miracle) there was no police or tow trucks called. I was able to get my car home safely. My car will probably be sold by the time you read this. Also, there were no injuries. I was so nervous I did not know what kind of vehicle I hit or if there were other passengers.

I am very unhappy with my Sonata, trouble since day 1! I was going on a family trip I have about a 300 nike drive not even an hour into the drive my car stops on the highway I had to get assistance to move it on the side of the road, road Ranger spots me and stops to help he tells me I had engine failure! I then have to wait for someone to pick me up and pretty much left my car on the side of the highway until I returned from my trip. Then get my car towed back to Hyundai which cost me about 400, Hyundai keeps my car for about a month replaced the engine but not the turbo because it wasn't apart of th recall, really! my car drives like crap without the turbo, made a complaint with corporate and nothing has gotten resolved! I will never purchase another Hyundai again!!!!
