I've had the car since July of 2017 and about 3 months into owning it I noticed a loss in power during acceleration. I also noticed that while it's parked, after it's been driven, the car makes a popping sound in the engine area. Recently I was waiting in traffic at a stoplight and the car shuddered and acted as if it was going to shut off but then smoothed out. It has happened twice more during idling since then. When accelerating from a stopped position the car doesn't shift smoothly.

I have taken my car in to the Hyundai dealer three times for service to and they have been unable to recreate the problem or diagnose the problem via a code. I had the transmission fluid replaced thinking that might originally be the problem. The car hesitates in lower gears when it is in ev mode and will rev at higher RPM before slamming into gear when it goes into gas engine mode. When coming off the highway and decelerating it will slam hard into gear as the car brakes and goes into ev mode. It is not consistent and every time the car is brought into the dealer they claim there is nothing worn with the car and they cannot duplicate the issue. When pulling out from a stop sign in ev mode there is absolutely no power some times and all of sudden the gas engine will kick in and accelerate. I have had other issues with the hybrid battery just shutting down on the highway so it concerns me that there is more of an issue that needs to be addressed.

Car has begun randomly and unpredictably "stalling" while in motion. Just simply stops moving forward for a few seconds, not responding to gas pedal. This has been both as car starts from stopped position as well as during cruising. Because most of our driving is city, we do not know if car will stall at highway speeds and we are afraid to drive on highways now. Hundai will not attempt any repair because they cannot document the problem. We feel it is either a bad computer or a transmission issue. No repairs have been attempted even though we have been into hundai several times

I was sold a car with a dangerous recall incomplete - Hyundai motor company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 Sonata vehicles manufactured December 11, 2009, through May 29, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the transmission shift cable may detach from from the shift lever pin. If the transmission shift cable detaches, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver parks the vehicle, despite selecting the 'park' position, the transmission may not be in 'park.' If the vehicle is not in the 'park' position and the parking brake is not applied, there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

When I start my car, put it in drive, and proceed, the car will jerl.as.ifnits struggling to change gears.it usually stops after a minute or so. It doesnt always happen, but its occured twice today and the check engine light finally came on. Im up to date on my oil changes, have had my transmission fluids flushed and the problem still persists. It shows that there are no active recalls, however ive heard from numerous people that these cars are known for engine problems.

Although my VIN was not identified in the Hyundai Sonata drive train recall, I am reporting what I believe is related to that recall. On weds., Dec. 14, 2016, while taking my mother to a doctor's appointment, I stopped my vehicle by the building entrance to assist her. I placed the car in park and engaged the parking brake. As I was getting out of the driver's-side, the vehicle began to move. In an effort to reach the brake pedal, my right leg became trapped in the driver's door as the car rolled away. My car traveled about 50 feet before rolling into a parked car which closed the door on my upper leg across the femur. The vehicle continued to move forward, striking another parked car, which stopped the forward motion but kept my body trapped by the door. Only when someone climbed into the car and reversed it was my leg released. Apparently I was holding on to the door frame with my right hand/arm because my thumb and palm are also swollen and my forearm is bruised. I have to contact an orthopedic for a follow-up assessment. The emt's told me I was very lucky; usually when someone is in this situation, they end-up under the car.

I have had numerous electrical issues with my 2013 Sonata. First the radio stopped working shortly after purchase. Dealer replaced, no issues. Happened a second time, replaced again. My headlights have been replaced 3 or 4 times each and tail lights twice. Biggest issue has been the electric door lock on the driver's side - it does not lock using the fob or the exterior door handle button. Dealer at first tried to tell me I was nuts, in a very condescending manner, and then he experienced it. The transponder in the door lock has been replaced 5 times. The last time, they had to call Japan Hyundai and troubleshoot the issue. They had my car for a week before they determined that the actuator was shorting out the lock transponder, so they replaced that and it worked the longest it ever has, probably about 6 months. Now however the same lock does not lock using the fob or handle lock and it has been joined intermittently by the rear driver's side door. I lock the car using the fob/exterior lock button/interior lock button, and then have to open the front driver's side door and manually lock it. I also check the rear driver's side door, because sometimes it locks and sometimes it doesn't. the thought of having to go back to the dealer with this makes my stomach churn. Now my car has started to have a persistent metallic ticking/tapping noise that gets worse when I idle. Then it is more of a knock. I have received warranty extension information and also the class action notice related to sudden engine seizure and I am afraid that is what is next because all the notices and complaints I have read say it starts with engine knock and then the engine seizes. I have called the dealership and left messages 3 times and no one ever calls me back. I'm guessing it's because they know what's coming. My car has approximately 57K miles and I bought it new in May 2012.
