When using breaks it causes bulb socket to melt housing, etc and break light stops working over and over. The rear break light keeps burning out and melting inside the socket. You have to change whole socket because the bulb just melts and you can not remove. Im afraid my car is going to catch fire.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. While the passenger seat was occupied and if contact was made with the door panel, the interior lighting would illuminate and the doors would unlock independently. The contact called an unknown dealer where an appointment was scheduled for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 76,675. The VIN was not available.

I have now replaced the housing rear brake light unit 3 times due to shorting out. The most recent short has caused the housing unit to melt causing a replacement of just the bulb not an option. The tag lights turn off and on and appear sometimes to be burnt out. This is also a short/wiring issue. This is a huge cause of concern for a trunk fire as this happens when the vehicle is in motion. I have been pulled over as a warning to get the lights replaced. Also, the spoiler on the vehicle has not only cracked all the way through but is also peeling due to coating issues. Only the spoiler on the car is the problem.

Months ago I had a burned out tail light and thought it was the passenger side - the housing would not disengage from the tail light - turned out it was the left one, so didn't follow up. The right bulb burned out apparently today - took 30 minutes to loosen the housing to find a blackened bulb(always like that) and the bulb melted into the housing. The bulb base was adhered to the housing and the housing cracked and will not hold a bulb. Taking to dealership for hopeful warranty replacements. All lights on this car and my 2006 have to be replaced every six months or so - this is a known ongoing problem with Sonatas that Hyundai has never addressed. My left front low beam nearly explodied when I replaced itand it was too hot to even touch and is now dim - there is something seriously wrong with the lighting wiring in these cars and as they are a safety issue, an investigation and recall is appropriate. Work on these oarts is too expensive and given even the small number of complaints on this site - it is clear there's an issue - since the year model is relatively new, perhaps many have been repaired under the 50,000 mile warranty.I am taking my 60000, mileage car to werner Hyundai in tallahassee and fully expect repair of both tail lights under the 10 year warranty.

Both tail light assemblies partially melted from the brake light bulb overheating. The brake light bulb itself was melted and fused into the socket housing it. The socket was blackened from overheating. It was the same problem on the left and right tail light assembly. I replaced both tail light assemblies since the plastic was partially melted and became deformed. The issue was likely an ongoing problem while the car was parked and in motion. There may be an electrical wiring problem as the underlying cause.

I keep applying tape on the knob to keep the light from staying on but that's not working. I know this is a defect because its on both doors.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. While driving various speeds at night, the external and instrument panel lighting flickered randomly. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (southtowne Hyundai, 7665 ga-85, riverdale, ga 30274). The contact was informed that if the failure could not be repeated, the failure could not be determined. On a separate occasion, the lighting failed independently and the engine began to lose power without warning. The contact stated that the failure began after having the vehicle repaired per tsb:10110926 (steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the tsb was not related to the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

The passenger side headlights would flicker and the dash lights too. Now the passenger headlights will not come on at all. I have replaced both the low and high beam bulbs and the lights will still not work. I paid over 2,000 for a warranty when I bought the car. The dealer told me that it was a bumper to bumper warranty. But that was a lie, the vehicle is unsafe to drive at night.

Socket for brake light bulb cannot be removed from melted tail-light housing to replace burned out bulb. First brake light bulb failure occurred in August 2017, when melted/distorted housing was first detected. Both LH and rh tail-light housings were found to have the same problem.

My brake lights are constantly blowing out on the passenger side of the vehicle. I have replaced the light several times. I took my car to the Hyundai dealership where I bought the car to have them inspect the problem. They found that there is an electrical issues and will cost a couple hundred to repair, which at this time I can't afford. Since the diagnosis I have seen numerous same model cars with the same problem. I have even spoken to a couple owners who have expressed their frustration. This needs further investigation and to be recalled

The front lights and brake lights have been replaced on numerous occasions on my 2013 Hyundai Sonata. My vehicle was pulled over by a police officer on February 8, 2017 for my brake lights being out. The officer was nice enough to write a warning ticket and said that the lights needed to be taken care of. I immediately took the vehicle to the dealership the next day and was informed that the brake light assembly on both sides needed to be replaced. They attempted to try to put the bulbs in; however, the casing was melted and it was impossible to insert the bulbs back into the casing. I asked what would cause the casing to melt and was not given a definitive answer. After reading other reviews on the internet, it appears that this is an issue with other consumers. This repair is not due to any wear and tear on behalf of the consumer. My concern is that if the brake casing is melting, it is apparently getting hot and no one seems to know why. The bulb casing may continue to melt and could possibly cause a fire. I contacted Hyundai's corporate office and expressed my concerns. I was informed that there is not currently a recall on the brake light assembly. I am reaching out to everyone with this issue to submit a formal complaint so that this issue can be addressed. The repair is costly ($580 for both sides), it is an ongoing issue of replacing light bulbs on the vehicle, and most importantly-the melting or the reason for the melting may cause a fire.

Takata recall, my light bulbs seem to blow out more than usual on my car and on the passenger side the bake brake light bulb blew out and I went to replace it and I had trouble removing the bulb because it had melted the area that you stick the bulb inside of I'm worried that something is wrong with the wiring and I'm sure this is happening at anytime my lights or on.

This writer is the owner of a 2013 Hyundai Sonata with 85000 miles. I purchased this vehicle in 2015 and noticed some issues with the taillight and headlights 6 months after I purchased the vehicle. I replaced the light several times before the mechanic informed me that my taillights would keep going out due to the piece that holds the bulb was beginning to melt. We then discovered that both lights were experiencing the same problem. I recently went to have my oil changed and had an inspection completed. At this time, the mechanic informed me that because I used the wrong bulbs, it melted. However, I informed him that just because I did not purchase bulb from them, does not mean I did not use the proper bulb. I am now unable to drive at night due to my headlight and taillight being out. The mechanic also stated that both sides are defected and needs to be replaced. I have also experienced a burning smell while vacuuming my car out. I am aware of these vehicles having multiple recalls and this should be investigated....if this continues, I am afraid that the vehicle may possibly catch on fire. I have experienced my lights going out all at once while on a city street. This has occurred while vehicle was stationary, in motion, on a city street or a highway.
