2015 Hyundai Sonata engine failure, exactly similar to symptoms described in recall articles for older models up to 2014. Hyundai warranty company declined the repair claiming it was an owners maintenance issue. I don't have hard receipts for all of the oil changes I've completed on the car. The car gave no warning of pending failure (no temperature warning or check engine light). The car had only 33,000 miles on it. I has been nearly a year since the failure. I can't find a replacement engine at a reasonable price because of the engine failures for other people's cars. I'll be forced to seek legal action (which I can't afford) if Hyundai doesn't honor their warranty agreement. I even bought the extended warranty. At the time of the failure, I was driving to a relatives home. I was on the highway for about 7 minutes, and then onto a side road before the failure. After having the car towed to a Hyundai dealer, they opened the engine, took pictures and sent them to Hyundai warranty company.

At about 12:00 pm on 7 April 2017, I was stopped at a red light on a major thoroughfare (50 mph speed limit). When the light turned green, I depressed the gas pedal, but the vehicle failed to move. Instead, it hesitated, bucked a bit, and then lost power altogether. I put the car in neutral and, after a couple of tries, the car restarted. As I accelerated, the car exhibited more hesitation, then operated normally. Ironically, I was on the way to the local Hyundai dealer to pick up our other vehicle and made it there. I reported the problem to the dealer and turned it over to them for diagnosis/repair. The dealer could neither detect any problem nor duplicate the incident. According to their write-up: "scanned for codes. No dtcs at this time. Fuel pressure is normal. 10 mile test drive and update has already been completed....unable to duplicate..." this morning, I learned that Hyundai has recalled 1.2 million vehicles and symptoms of the problem are exactly those that my vehicle exhibited. However, my vehicle is a 2015 model and does not appear to be covered by the recall, notwithstanding the problem I experienced yesterday. In any case, my vehicle has only 26K miles and has been well maintained by the dealer. I suspect it has the problem for which Hyundai is now recalling over a million vehicles.

The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate over 40 mph. The check engine warning indicator illuminated. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed several times with oil leaking into the housing. The seals were resealed and the housing was replaced several times, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to the dealer again where it was diagnosed that oil was leaking into the housing unit and caused acceleration failure. The gear needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 22,000.

Me and my wife were driving to southern California on a road trip. When accelerating uphill, the transmission downshifted to above 3,500 RPM's. immediately the fuel cutoff and the car would not accelerate. I tried several times but noticed the car would not accelerate past 3,500 RPM's. I immediately went to manual mode and selected a gear that was below 3,500 to make it up the "grapevine" hill. Soon after the check engine light came on. I went to the dealer the next day and they said it was the vcm motor- code P0200A. It was replaced under warranty. The dealer service was great. We were lucky this malfunction didn't happen when my wife was driving alone and needed to pass another vehicle or drive uphill. She would not have been able to accelerate.

Shortly after exiting interstate and slowdown for signal, I attempted to accelerate and the vehicle was totally unresponsive, like I wasn't even giving it gas. I have had it serviced twice and towed once for stalling while driving, shuddering, sputtering. Took waiting and numerous attempts to get it restarted. The second time, the dealer kept it for a week in October and could not find anything. (this is my second complaint as I want all this documented). Doesn't mean it doesn't exist. They replaced the fuel pump. I just drove it back from out of town this weekend (300 miles) and I noticed the acceleration was quite sluggish especially when trying to accelerate to pass. It was like the passing gear would not engage. Afraid my car would just stall again, I did not pursue heavy acceleration or passing gear attempts any further. Then this happened today. I feel there is something definitely wrong with this vehicle, and that every time I drive it, I am at some kind of risk. Saw some other complaints about ECM. The problem needs to be identified and corrected; this is definitely a safety issue, especially at high speeds or heavy traffic. There is definitely something wrong here.

There are many problems with this car, steering is #1 at low speed is makes a popping noise, at speed is has dead spots, entire steering assembly could be moved. The transmission is rough and feels like it is hunting and stumbling between 1/2,2/3 shifts, downshifts 1 or 2 ranges at the slightest hill. Back up camera comes on and then goes black in the middle of backing up. Brakes feel like they are slipping if you are braking at low speed on a hill, as in parking. I have taken it back to the dealer 3 or 4 times, they are unable to fix the problems, though they did manage to fix the moving steering assembly the 2nd visit wile denying they did any work. I have attempted to get Hyundai to buy this car back under the lemon law but they say nothing is wrong or it is not severe enough...I feel like I have to take a huge loss to trade it in on a dependable car or wait till something fails completely (hopefully not the steering) before they will listen to me.

I was driving about at 50 mph on a highway with my kids and had only 1 to 2 miles left to exit. Suddenly, I felt something wrong in the engine or powertrain as I couldn't accelerate my car. When I tried to hit hard on the acceleration pedal, my car would accelerate a little bit, but not that much. While I stepped down on the pedal, I felt my car was rolling up and down. Anyway, my speed was being reduced as it didn't accelerate. Finally, I exited the highway. I had to stop at the intersection and then tried to start, but my car moved very slowly and hard with the rolling. It is only 1-mile distance to my home from the intersection, but I had to pull over my car to a shoulder as I found that I couldn't no longer drive my car without interrupting the traffic. I also could see white/black smoke coming out from my car through my room mirror and smell something burnt in the engine room. Lastly, I had to call a towing company for pick-up.

The car has issues with the transmission shifting erratically. There is a very loud chattering coming from the engine. It is getting progressively worse. The panoramic sunroof is constantly creaking whenever driving on uneven pavement. The car has been in the shop for check engine issues since it was three months old all related to the intake manifold and vcm. And the vehicle stalls randomly and does not set off and check engine lights. Dealerships keep saying no issue found. Rotors have warped.

On May 30, 2016 at around 9 pm I stopped my 2015 Hyundai Sonata at a traffic light and without warning the engine died. I was almost rear ended when the light changed to green. No warning lights came on until the engine died. After about two minutes I was able to restart the car. I turned left at the intersection where my car had stalled and in the middle of the intersection the engine died again. I thought I was going to die. Exited the car and waved traffic by. Two more minutes and the engine started again and I was able to drive the three remaining blocks to my home. I had the car towed to ourisman Hyundai where I bought it. They have had it ever since. Today, June 6, ourisman called and said they could not duplicate the problem and I should return the loaner car and pick up my Sonata. I will not pick up a Sonata that dies in the middle of driving. I would like to live. I called Hyundai America and reported the issue and they open D a case file. I have left messages with the GM at ourisman and he has not returned my calls. Oh, I forgot to mention that when I bought the car (it was a year old) I told the salesman that I did not want a hertz, avis or any other rental car. He assured me it was not purchased from a car rental company. After over 5 hours at the dealership, I was told it had been from a rental company. I was worn out and thought it still had four years left on the warranty. I feel like a fool. I have asked Hyundai America to buy my car back.

2015 Hyundai Sonata SE - engine vibrations/rattles/droning when in overdrive at low RPM acceleration. At times the engine has been unresponsive. Was told by Hyundai it was normal, but did not start until the car had around 600 miles - now at 7400 miles, still doing it and sounds horrid. Also, popping sound from steering/brakes when backing up and turning/using brakes at only 1200 miles. That was fixed by dealer, said I had overheated the brakes, which wasn't true, only drove on freeway and wasn't using the brakes.

Sonata

While driving on a highway, the car unexpectedly lost engine power; the car engine did not respond whenever I quickly stepped on the gas pedal; thereby making any quick defensive maneuver impossible. It's as if the car engine was starved for air and became unresponsive for quick acceleration. Dealership determined error code P2600, intake runner control problem. Due to this problem of impaired acceleration getting, on and off major highways was particularly dangerous since quick power was non-existent and avoiding other cars quickly was not possible. Truly a safety issue!

During labor day weekend, I was alerted on display that the "transmission temperature is high". I stopped for 40 minutes in a turnout area (the manual states that you need to wait 20 minutes in this case). I continued the trip, but the transmission was not shifting gear. I pushed the accelerometer and rpms were at 5000 and gear was not shifted (the speed was around 10-20 M/H). After a few attempts to increase rpms the gear shifted. The "check engine" light came on. I parked the car for 5-6 hours. On my way back the issue appeared after 20-30 minutes of driving. In my garage, I noticed that I'm not able to drive in the reverse direction. The reverse gear was not shifting. I felt like the vehicle was in neutral position. I was not able to park the vehicle. I had to push the car into the parking spot. The next day the light "check engine" turned off and the vehicle was shifting ok. I was able to drive the car to a Hyundai dealer. The service man was unable to verify the transmission issue. The diagnostic code was P191464. The service man contacted Hyundai fse. Fse advised replacing the shift motor actuator. The shift motor actuator was replaced. I picked the car up from the service today on September 25th. I drove from service to home without any issue ( approximately 6 miles).
