My 2015 Sonata 2.0 sport engine stalled while I was waiting at a traffic light in the middle of rush hour traffic (oakland) pittsburgh, pa. Vehicle was tying up traffic so bad that a university police officer helped me push vehicle to side of road. Got vehicle towed to #1 cochran Hyundai monroeville, pa. Was informed vehicle engine seized up and a replacement would be needed. Been without vehicle since mid May 2018, while still paying car note, insurance and car registration! I need to be compensated!!! luckily, engine is covered under warranty but still a big inconvenience!!!! Hyundai how will you smooth this over with your customers"?"

Whenever I come to a complete stop while my vehicle is in drive, the RPM's idle at a dangerously low level that upon releasing the brakes in order to drive again, the vehicle sputters and struggles to take off. A couple of times the vehicle has actually stalled out while sitting at an intersection while trying to drive. The only way I have been able to find a fix to this problem is by keeping the air conditioning on which appears to make the vehicle RPM's run a little higher in turn not allowing the vehicle to get to dangerously low rpms. As far as I can tell there are no recalls out there pertaining to this while other individuals appear to be experiencing the same thing. Dealership states that it is normal. I purchased this vehicle about 2 months ago so I am not sure if this was a common occurrence with the prior owner. Seems like if Hyundai were to increase the rpms while it is in an idle state (in drive) then this would not happen.

I cranked the car in my driveway and it was shaking a little, which I thought was strange and when reversed and started to drive the check engine light came on and then the car died. It had 59156 miles on it at that time. Hyundai towed it to the dealer for me and they said they could not get any error codes or see anything that was wrong with it.. they said bring it back if there are more issues.Hyundai kept the car for more than a week to see what was wrong..

Our car was serviced by southwest Hyundai dealer in albuquerque on 7/6, and although it was idling rough, they told us our car was safe to continue our vacation to co. The next morning, 30 miles later on I 25 we were traveling the speed limit, and a clanking noise started and smoke poured out from under the hood...we pulled over immediately. Billows of smoke. We called 911 and road assistance. Santa Fe fire dept forced hood open and flooded the engine. Car was towed to sante fe Hyundai fiesta. Our insurance company inspected and said the car was totaled. Hyundai corporate will be inspecting the car to try and determine cause. According to geico adjuster, that may not be possible. Everything melted.

Vehicle was stationary when started up. The engine started the rattle while in idle. After letting the car sit for 10 minutes, proceeded to drive normally. The engine would then rattle during acceleration and applying more rpms. The rattle was directly related to applying more pressure to the gas pedal. This car has 12322 miles and the rattle started to occur at 12000 miles to the best of my knowledge. Vehicle was started in driveway and rattle was heard at intersection and then later on highway. I'm concerned this rattle will damage the engine but specific components are unknown.

With only 27,000 miles, the car stalled at an intersection without any warning on a June day in 2016 in Texas. Towed to dealership for warranty repair. Warranty company declined the repair, claiming "customer maintenance issue". warranty company refused repair after looking only at photographs of the engine. Warranty company didn't request, and dealership refused to even accept owners maintenance records. After the repair was declined, I researched the problem and found out about recall for previous model years 2011-2014. That recall was a response to similar failures and customer's similar complaints about warranty company automatically claiming "customer maintenance issue". dealership shared with me their communications with the warranty company which asked only for photos of the problem. How can the cause of the failure be determined by photographs of the engine when the previous four model years used the same exact engine model resulting in major recalls" also, how can the warranty company refuse to see maintenance records and then blame owner's for the failure? clearly the company is executing a nationwide policy of declining repairs even when they are covered by the warranty. How many similar failures were covered by the warranty"

Air intake was replaced 3X. 3rd time lead to turbo failure. Thompson Hyundai replaces turbo but doesn't put antifreeze, tighten oil screw (which blew oil all over engine), and they didn't even test drive it. Drove vehicle, smoke starts pouring from the vents, engine overheats. Vehicle gets towed back to dealership. Currently vehicle has check engine light on, rough idle and doesn't accelerate. Almost got into an accident because loss of acceleration. Also, the sunroof winddeflector which was recalled is now coming off again. Dealership used a small amount of glue to adhesive it back to the car. The glue has failed.Hyundai needs better service techs. They have destroyed my car.

I sought service for loud lifter noise at 50,000 miles, but was told the noise was from an after market (jiffy lube (fram filter)). The service dept. Frank Hyundai, chula vista, ca drained my new oil, and did a complete new oil and filter change. The lifter noise continued. At approx. 122,000 the engine began to knock while on the freeway - mason auto, imperial beach, ca did a complete engine diagnostic and determined the noise as engine knock. From lifter noise to engine knock. I cannot drive the car for fear of complete engine failure! mason auto of imperial beach, ca informed me that this was the fourth Hyundai they had diagnosed with engine knock recently.

Vehicle has bad hesitation since 20,000 miles stalls, loss of power at times step on the gas pedal and car doesn't move, afraid to drive a new car that I pay for is crazy but afraid to get in an accident so I do not drive it. Hyundai keeps giving me the run around that the computer updates will fix this transmission problem but I have had 3 updates and it keeps getting worse and no one will do anything about it except take my money. These 7 speed dual clutch transmission have real issues serious issues that an cause a death if they lose power and get in an accident someone is going to get killed!!! the 7 speed dual clutch is not engaging in the 1st and 2nd gear and it causes the hesitation and stalling that all these cars are having and Hyundai knows it is a hugh issue so they did'nt put this transmission in the new cars they went back to the 6 speed shiftronic which was better...but leaves the people who bought these horrible models left in the dirt these cars need a recall asap I will not drive mine nor will I put my child in it thats said I pay for a car to sit in my driveway and no one wants to help any of us!!!!! I see thousands with the same issue as mine its not fair.

1/2 mile after starting my vehicle and driving approx 30 mph, my car shuttered and shook. Pulled over and it seemed to fix itself so I continued 23 miles to work. Was approx 39 degrees according to car dashboard. Leaving work 9 hours later, I drove approx 1.5 miles in stop and go traffic, speed no higher than 25-30 mph, crossed over rr tracks and the car shuttered and then shut off completely rolling to a stop. Threw on my hazards and the screen indicated I should put it in park and restart. The battery light and master indicator light came on. Car restarted and the lights disappeared. Went straight to Hyundai dealer. They attempted a 17 mile road test the next day after the car sat overnight and it did not repeat the issue. Nothing was stored in the computer system from when the lights came on. They have no explanation. Oil was changed and took car back at 5pm the day after the issue took place. Drove 24 miles to work today and it did not repeat yet.

Blown engine, bought 2015 Sonata with 36,000 miles, certified used, leased car. Driving home about 35 mph, the engine made a loud clunking sound, thankfully I was in the right lane, I pulled off the street into a parking lot when all of a sudden the car engine blew. Had to tow back to the dealership where they are to replace the engine. Hyundai usa needs send out recall for the gti engine that is causing a lot of issues.

Sonata

  • 61,000 miles
While merging onto a freeway the vehicle stopped accelerating and simply revved as if in neutral. I released gas and attempted to accelerate again with to result. I drove onto shoulder to avoid a rear end collision, shut the vehicle off, and attempted to drive again with a positive result. Shortly thereafter while driving on the freeway attempting to change lanes there was yet another failure to accelerate and the same issue occurred, a full RPM rev with no acceleration. The check engine light finally came on. I contacted the dealer with the error code that a code reader revealed and was requested my VIN. They then claimed that there is a recall and was told to come see a specific service agent. Nhysa website reveals no recalls for my vehicle. The issue is the variable charge motion actuator. I am fearing that Hyundai is remedying the issue in case by case basis and calling it a recall to avoid penalty.

The vehicle began making a knocking noise while driving up the mountain to big bear. No warning lights illuminated on the dash. Two days later while descending the mountain, the vehicle continued making the noise. No lights were illuminated on the dash. Then, while still on the mountain, there was a loud "pop", smoke could be seen in the rear view mirror, and the engine died; I coasted to the side of the road. The car behind me pulled over and the driver yelled that my car was on fire. Flames could be seen under the car. The fire spread and ultimately the car exploded, setting the hillside on fire. The fire department extinguished the fire and the car was towed away.

  • 45,000 miles
1/14/18 upon entering a 4 lane major road from a store parking lot, my 2015 Sonata would not accelerate. I let off and pushed the accelerator pedal, no response though the RPM's were revving. The check engine light came on. I pulled over, shut the car off, and restarted the car. The car seemed to accelerate ok after some initial hesitation. However, the engine light is still on and the car is accelerating up to 11 mph, in drive and reverse, on its own when the brake is released (no use of accelerator pedal). In addition, when in drive, the car lurches forward reaching a speed of about 5 mph as soon as the break is released. I see recalls for these engine issues on 2011-2012 models. Appears issue not resolved with engine recalls showing for mode years 2013-2014, it seems the engine issues are still not resolved for 2015. My car has less than 45,000 miles and has been serviced at the Hyundai dealership I purchased the car new every 3000 miles until my oil change time before last. The next service sticker was for a 5000 mile interval and when I questioned this, I was told the dealership was using a higher performance oil that didn't require changing prior to 5000 miles. I had the next oil change done at about 4000 miles. I am concerned I will be told there is nothing wrong with my car, my engine is going to seize, and I will be stuck with this repair expense.
