Summary
2016MY SONATA VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE OPTIONAL ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE (EPB) INCORPORATE A FEATURE TO MEASURE THE CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE BRAKE PAD AND ROTOR ASSEMBLIES. IF THE PARKING BRAKE IS NOT APPLIED AT LEAST ONCE WITHIN A 1,000 KM PERIOD, SELF-CHECK SOFTWARE WILL ACTIVATE THE REAR BRAKE PADS (APPLY/RELEASE) AFTER THE VEHICLE IS PLACED IN PARK AND THE IGNITION IS TURNED OFF. DUE TO THE SYSTEM’S LOGIC, IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE REAR BRAKE PADS TO REMAIN IN CONTACT WITH THE ROTORS AFTER THIS VERIFICATION PROCESS, AND THE REAR BRAKES MAY “DRAG” DURING THE NEXT DRIVE CYCLE REQUIRING THE CUSTOMER TO RELEASE THE PARKING BRAKE. THIS BULLETIN DESCRIBES THE SERVICE PROCEDURE TO UPDATE THE EPB CONTROL LOGIC (CONTROLLED BY THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) MODULE) TO ENSURE THE EPB IS LEFT IN THE CORRECT STATE FOLLOWING THE CLEARANCE VERIFICATION PROCESS.
