This is my second 2012 Sonata hybrid. The first one had so many engine issues that Hyundai replaced it with another 2012 Sonata hybrid. I have taken it in 5 times.for the same issue. Around 20mph the car will not accelerate then it jerks forward. I almosy got hit on the highway because it wont accelerate. Several weeks ago the stop safely do not drive hybrid warning came on and thr car wouldnt go. Had ot towed. They found code P0717. They replaced input output speed sensors but the problem continues still. It also jerks when it changes from hybrid to gas. This car is dangerous. They cannot seem to find the problem. Mileage 51000-55000.

Car had 113,000 miles. Maintenance was up to date. Driving from AZ to laquinta, ca. Heard a knocking noise. Stopped, hecked oil, fine, car was cool, no engine lights on. Drove 4 more miles, noise got real loud and car shut down on freeway. Coasted to side, engine light came on and stated do not drive. Called tow truck. Engine was seized. Dealer stated engine was frozen and needed a new short block costing $8,800 including installation. Asked why it froze, why no warning lights, they say they did not know. Left car to go look for a new car and was told by several dealers and people price too high and our car had a recall. Checked on line but it said our car was not recalled, but yet we read the same exact description for recall 132 that our car had done. Trying to find out why are car seized up ((froze) when it was maintained and only had 113,000 miles. Since we are not repairing dealer wants car removed asap so we are trying to trade it in tomorrow at Honda dealer. Will not buy another Hyundai

While driving it down the street started to hesitate frequently while driving then heard a loud clanking sound which continued on while driving it to dealer. Dealer looked at it and we were told the motor had gone out and needed to be replaced! they also said we had to pay for it because they said our oil changes were not approved! once we got the paper work back they quoted they found oil build up and large chunks of metal throughout the engine that has contaminated the valve train. They had to replace engine, cylinder head, valve, valve spring, camshafts, gaskets! now they are issuing a recall on Hyundai sonatas for this exact problem, but they are also saying our car is not included in the recall even though what they fixed is the exact problem that is listed on the recall. It took them almost 2 months to have our car in the shop because they couldn't find the parts needed to fix the engine!!!!

The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata hybrid. When shifting into reverse or drive, the vehicle jerked violently. In addition, while driving 15-20 mph, a chime sounded and the 'safely stop and do not drive' warning message appeared on the message board. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the oil pump or the computer module failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in a manufacturers recall that was related to the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 71,415.

We were traveling down highway 125 when my 2012 Hyundai Sonata hybrid caught on fire. It completely burned to the ground. We had about 5 seconds to jump out of car. All 4 occupants got out of car thank you god.
