problem #48

Aug 232020

Tucson

  • 50,000 miles
Rear passenger door will not open. It is unlocked and the child safety locks are not engaged. No amount of pushing from inside nor pulling from outside will move the door. This happened after the car had been sitting in the driveway for 3 days without being driven. There have been no impacts, etc. To the vehicle whatsover. We went out to go for a drive and could not open the door for my toddler to get in.

My right side rear door, and passenger door handles both stopped working and will not open the door. My car door will not budge from the inside nor outside no matter how much force I put into it. This is a safety hazard as I have two young children in car seats, if I ever had to get them out in an emergency I'd have to get them out through the window! this is not a cheap fix, and I see it is a very common problem among owners of this same model. Please why has this not been recalled yet

I went to get my 1 yr old out of his car seat last night and the rear passenger door wouldn't open from the outside or the inside. It was unlocked. I've read multiple complaints so this is a known issue and a huge safety concern if there was an emergency and I had to get him out quickly. I had to crawl in the back seat and drag my 30 lb 1 year old out up over his car seat and through the middle of the car out the driver's side passenger door.

Tucson

  • 48,000 miles
Both the passenger side and driver side rear doors won't open from either inside or outside. No child lock is on, and the lock/unlock button works fine, but nothing happens when I pull the door handle from outside or inside. I have my children sitting in the rear seats and it is a critical safety issue, being unable to open the door from either side. I found that this is a known issue to this particular year model 2016 Hyundai Tucson, and there are many consumer complaints for this problem. Also, in Korea, the original country of Hyundai, the national consumer report Agency announced, in December 2019, of this issue and requested Hyundai motors to correct this problem and Hyundai has accepted to repair this known issue to the consumers. Hyundai has failed to implement this fix in us and it is a very big expense that the customer has to bear for a safety issue. Upon investigation I found that the rear door-lock latch actuator assembly is the problem component that has some sort of cheap plastic causing the issue and the entire assembly needs to be replaced. I have uploaded the pictures of the latch assembly that requires a replacement.

My front passenger side door would only open from the outside after 3+ pulls on the handle. Now the rear passenger door will not open from the inside or the outside. Lock still engages and disengages, but door will not open. This compromises the safety of my rear passengers.

In a short amount of time, 3 of my 4 doors open unreliably and one will not open at all. It started with the front passenger side door. You always must pull the handle 2 to 4 times to get it to open. It seemed only an inconvenience, and it was quoted as very expensive to fix, so I just ignored it. Then a few months later, the same thing happened to my front driver's side door. It alwas takes 2 to 4 attempts at pulling the handle to open. Again, I chalked it up to an inconvenience, but it was starting to become very concerning. The reason I write is that now (just weeks after the second door's reliability issue started), my rear right passenger side door will not open, no matter how many attempts you make. The two front doors do open on the first attempt from the inside as they should. However, the rear right passenger door will never open from the inside or the outside. This is not a child lock issue as I've never used them. It simply stopped working. The door is useless. This is a very dangerous situation if someone in the back seat needed to get out of the car in a hurry. I researched online to see if others have this problem, and it appears to be quite common on Hyundai Tucsons - I saw many people describing the exact same problem. The dealership is asking anywhere from $400 to $1000 to fix each door! as this is a safety issue, I feel that it strongly warrants consideration for a recall thank you for looking into this matter.

Right (passenger) rear door will not open from the inside or outside of the vehicle even if the door is unlocked. The door lock is functional, but the latch does not disengage when the door handle is pulled. This is a safety concern if rear passengers need to exit in an emergency.

Hyundai has sent out a letter to the owner of the affected vehicles, Tucson, manufactured between May 2015 to December 2016, (106,726 cars) to repair and replace the door latch 4ea at no cost. It is the same model and this needs to be done as soon as possible also for the consumers in the usa and it needs to be on the recall list. Please take look at this issue seriously and take necessary action to Hyundai motors usa. Below is the link in Korean about door latch recall on 2016 Tucson vehicles, published in December 2019. Rear door lock is intermittently unlocking door. Door cannot be opened from inside or outside the vehicle. This has been reported by many owners and Hyundai is saying normal wear and tear for the door after taking the vehicle to have it evaluated by the dealership.

Driver door suddenly stopped opening. There is no way to enter the vehicle using the driver door. The car was unlocked using the key fob and locks were not a factor. 2 days later the rear passenger door suddenly will not open from the inside or the outside. Child safety lock was not in use and the car was unlocked using the key fob. There is no way for a person to enter or exit the vehicle through that door. Vehicle was parked. This is clearly a safety issue because in an emergency riders would be unable to exit the vehicle and could become trapped inside. The driver also needs to be able to quickly enter the vehicle. Hyundai dealer identified failed latch assembly as the problem.

Rear driver side door will not open. The problem began about 2 years ago and after further investigation online it appears to be a common problem. I believe the actuator is not functioning properly. The door is shut and there is not way to open it without unhinging the door and going to the dealership. This is obviously a defect and not from a result of wear and tear.

Tucson

  • 51,500 miles
Tucson stored in garage. Left after 8am to go to work. After approx 10-15 min on the road it sounded like a bomb exploded above my head and I could hear the bits of glass hitting the headliner/sun visor as I slowed down and carefully drove with my hazards on. I was going straight on the 202 freeway headed West to I-10 with no exits until I-10 & ray rd. I had been going approx. 65mph when this happened with no warning. I thought someone might have tossed something off the kyrene overpass, but pretty sure I was too far away at that time. Interior A/C was set to 74 with the fan on level 2. checked the temp at the dealership and it was reading 81. I do have pictures, however they are too large to attach.

My back doors started to not open intermittently. And now neither of them will open. This is a major safety problem as I have grandchildren in carseats in the backseat and if anything were to happen I would not be able to get them out. I did some research and found that this is a known issue.

problem #30

Dec 012019

Tucson

  • 58,000 miles
The vehicle door locks cease to function properly leading to both the interior and exterior door handles failing to unlatch the door. This causes the doors to fail to be able to be opened. This could potentially be fatal in an accident situation. Currently both the left rear door and front right door latches do not work. I cannot open either of those two doors. This is a well documented issue with Hyundai door latches. A safety recall needs to be issued.

Rear drivers side door and front passenger door not opening when you unlock remotely or manually properly. Sometimes it will open but most times is will. It could be a death trap if someone is stuck on that side of car.
