Auto was stopped at a red light. When light turn green I pressed gas pedal auto did not move. All lights on dash board turned on, steering wheel locked, the auto transmission lever locked, ignition locked and brakes locked. Screen did not show what position if auto was on neutral, parked etc., some guys helped me push car to side of a street. After 4-5 minutes or so I was able to put my car in neutral and then after 5 or 6 minutes ignition unlocked and I was able to turn auto off.

Incident happened on July 21st 2017 at 1:45pm at 9701 dessau road, austin Texas. I was coming around the corner at dessau and rundberg heading North and I felt the car skip a little and had some loss of power. I pulled into the parking lot at 9701 dessau and the car was smoking and the brakes went out. I pulled the emergency brake and then opened the hood, there was fire and black smoke coming out and I ran inside to get a fire extinguisher. It looked like the alternator failed and caught on fire. The fire spread under the motor cover and burned some of the hood, but I got to it quickly and minimal damage was done. I could have crashed and died.

My Veloster turbo sunroof randomly exploded and shattered all on me and around me lightly damaging the interior of my car and gave me a few scratches and could have potentially blinded me had it gone into my eyes. I tried to call and see if Hyundai would help me out, but was told to get my call inspected at a dealership, only to be told that Hyundai will not cover the replacement for my sunroof; even though it is a known factory defect on my car make and model and has had multiple reports from owners of the same make and model. I am extremely upset with that fact and wanted to report this issue to the NHTSA, and maybe with this Hyundai will act on this issue sooner than later.

While parked in a parking garage my sunroof exploded. Glass was everywhere. Nothing was even near my car when it happened (thank goodness) after looking at security footage. I hope a recall is done soon because I could not imagine if I had been in the vehicle with children. Hyundai has been semi-helpful but something needs to be done before it happens instead of after

I was driving down the interstate doing 70 mph when suddenly my sunroof exploded while closed. Considering this model vehicle has an all glass sunroof this is very dangerous. I called Hyundai and was told the 2012 models have a recall for exploding sunroofs but not mine in particular. This is a safety hazard as people with children in the backseat can get cut by falling glass if this happens. The sunroof explodes without warning.

Vehicle slips out of gear often. Dealership cannot duplicate problem, and one dealer dismissed my complaint. Happens after accelerating from a stop when shifting from 1-2 but has happened when shifting 2-3 and it slips out and engine revs, disengaged from wheels (as if in neutral). This is when using it in normal mode, not sport or manual shift. There are numerous other complaints online in various forums (not yet on nhsta site it seems) this is very unsafe in traffic as the driver must stop accelerating, shift car into N and then back to drive to get it to work again.

I was driving 70mph in the high-speed lane on I-40 eastbound on 7/7/15 at 7:10pm when my sunroof exploded without warning. There were no cars in front of me. My sunroof was closed, and the windows were closed. The weather was sunny and ~90 degrees. The explosion came as a sudden thunderous boom causing shards of glass to fall into my vehicle onto my head and down my back, causing only a few minor cuts. I was so alarmed as the sunroof exploded that I swerved onto the berm of the highway. I noticed that the vehicles behind me also swerved causing near accidents, as I suspect shards of glass also flew backward at their vehicle after the explosion. I put on my flashers and pulled my vehicle to the right berm of the highway to calm myself. The other cars did not stop. Since the vehicle was still in driving condition, I drove the vehicle home slowly with my emergency flashers on and called my insurance company. There are currently no recalls on 2013 Hyundai Velosters. However there was a recall (#12V568000) for 2012 Velosters for the same issue. There are also blogs on the web that talk about this issue lingering with 2013 models, however, no action has been taken by Hyundai to proactively address this enormous safety concern. I hope this notification to NHTSA helps drive some action and forces Hyundai to recall these sunroofs considering how this could have easily caused severe injury and/or death at such high speeds.

June 16/2015, at 12:40 est, the top rear window of my '13 Veloster shattered when I closed the driver side door. This happened after having lunch in the car for 1/2 hour with the windows open. The temperature was in the mid 70S. It happened with the windows closed when the door was shut as I exited the vehicle. The rear hatch and both front passenger doors were used twice earlier in the morning with no damage observed. The vehicle sat outside in the sun for 4 1/2 hours before lunch. Recently, there had been some severe rain and high wind, but no hail. Temperatures had gone into the upper 80S in the last week. The glass completely shattered into small pieces and left a large hole in the center. The shape of the glass where the hole was appeared to be pushed out. That section and much more of the glass fell into the back of the vehicle while driving home. I was told by a service manager at the Hyundai dealership that it was not covered under warranty.

I have a 2013 vitamin C Veloster and I recently looked under my license plate in the rear and noticed a big hole in my bumper from melting, it seems to keep getting worse since last week when I noticed it. I took it into the dealership yesterday and showed the service guys and at that point my bumper and plate mount had fused together from the heat. I fear the bumper starting on fire right next to the gas tank. They took 3.5 hours to look at it and figure out what was going on. They claimed that they have never heard of or seen this issue and when they finished, wouldn't tell me any info. They gave me no paperwork, they just told me "take the car, we had to order a lot of parts and it will be a while before we get them in; we will call you when the parts come in and they closed the shop.
