As I was driving on an interstate highway, suddenly the brakes on my Jeep locked up and pulled over to the shoulder. The dashboard message was that there was a problem with the Parking Brake. After a few minutes the vehicle would move and I drove home. I called a service station and made an appointment to have it looked at but the brakes were now locked and the vehicle had to be towed. The mechanic said there was a problem with water in Parking Brake Control Module and the design would let in water which caused the problem. He said the module and connector needed replacement. The Jeep was then taken to a dealer who was the only one who could get the parts and make the repairs. The dangerous aspect was the brakes suddenly locking up on the highway.

On or about March 26, 2023 the emergency parking break became engaged and would not disengage. Upon having my car towed to my local Jeep Dealership (Acton, MA) I was informed that water had leaked and corroded the wiring for the EPB module. The dealership informed me that this problem can-??t be fixed fully and will continue to happen even after I paid $1,800.

My parking brake light came on and I took it (2014 Cherokee Latitude) to get my brakes fixed and was made aware that my parking brake was stuck on just enough to were it had been wearing out my rotors. my pads and rotors were destroyed because of this and can-??t be replaced until I take it to a dealership so they can reprogram it and get it to disengage. A few days prior to this I was in a driveway and my car would not move at all for around 30 mins of starting and restarting my car. I called the dealership and they are wanting to charge me $159 diagnostic plus the cost of repair not to mention it-??s unsafe to drive and has to be towed. Dealership apparently only one who can fix and want to charge all this money to repair an electronic issue that causes my vehicle to be unsafe for me and my 2 children!

My Parking break became stuck ON and would not turn off. A warning light came on to service the parking brake. The car would not move. Upon inspection of the EPB module, it was wet, with corrosion, to the point where water can be heard in the module unit. That area of the rear of the car was also wet. My car will not drive and I will be taking it to a Jeep dealership shortly.

The electronic parking brake module was damaged due and corroded, due to water, leading to the Jeep being unable to disengage the parking brake. The module is located in the rear of the trunk and no other signs of water were present when inspected. All of the Jeeps safety systems were effected by the module, the dash board had two lights indicated -??P!-?? And -??brake.-?? The module was replaced by CDR Fullerton in Somerville. The vehicle was inspected by Jeep in Somerville and they were able to reproduce the problem. The vehicle has never been subjected to any type of water damage before. The issue started while driving on a local road when the ebrake automatically engaged resulting in loss of power. After pulling over and starting restarting the car I was able to drive the car home. However, the problem reoccurred many times and we were unable to use the car until the dealership was able to fix it.

While in drive my parking brake engaged all of a sudden. I tried to disengage and it would not. A scanner was brought and the car would not even talk to it. I tried settings on my dash to disengage parking brake and it brought up error. My car had to be put on a flatbed. I was told they found water on left back side where my parking module was and they have ordered the part. I have read several complaints on this same exact situation.

The emergency/parking break froze in the on position. The vehicle had to be towed on a flatbed truck. The parking brake had to be disconnected in order to drive the vehicle. The cause was water intrusion into rear cargo area. Parking brake module/connector are corroded. Needs a module and harness. Code C10CD01. I understand this issue is already being investigated for recall. I want to make sure my complaint is included.

Vehicle began having parking brake issues. After further research I discovered I was not the only person to have this issue. The Electronic Parking Brake Module (EPB) was located on the rear left side of the vehicle next to the spare tire compartment. I removed the EPB and began to shake the part. The part was found to contain a bunch of water that should not have been able to enter the EPB. The vehicle is still inoperable as the EPB will not disengage. The vehicle is not mobile at this time. I just ordered a new EPB Module on 1/21/2023 from MOPAR and was charged $111 for shipping and the part.

While driving the parking brake suddenly engaged and the parking brake warning light came on the dash. I pulled over and was not able to disengage the parking brake. I shut the car off and when it turned back on the parking brake was still engaged. When attempting to disengage the brake, the light on the switch would pulse but not disengage. The car would then not operate in drive or reverse and had to be towed to my house. The following day we had it towed to a dealership was were told that water had corroded the module and would need to be replaced. I-??m currently awaiting the replacement part and incurring the fees for a rental car at my own cost. The estimated cost from the dealership is around $1,200 and the part isn-??t scheduled to arrive until the end of next month.

I was going to leave for work at 4am as usual, went out to my vehicle and tried to put it in reverse but the emergency brake was on. I had a -??Service Parking Brake-?? prompt and light on the dash, and another -??Brake-?? light lit up, showing the emergency brake was on. I figured I had accidentally hit the button and went to disengage it, but it would not turn off. I had never used the emergency brake, and had no prior issues with it. I was forced to call into work due to not have transportation at that point. After toggling the switch for 15 mins, the light shut off and I immediately put it into gear to drive to the nearest automotive repair shop, where when I put the vehicle in park again the light came back on. I found out today that it was the module located in the spare tire compartment, both of which were soaked with water. Turns out there is a National shortage on this part with no ETA on when they will in stock, which forces me to have to buy a used part. The kicker on that is there are only 11 used ones available in Minnesota where I live, they need to be flashed, and the used part is twice as expensive as a new part. Regardless of which part I use, if water is seeping into that area constantly it-??s only a matter of time before it happens again. I have now read stories of the brakes engaging while people are driving, and luckily nobody has been hurt yet. My issue with that is my wife and I use this vehicle daily with our 2.5 year old daughter and 5 month old son, and we bought this vehicle because of its safety features. The fact that this is a known issue, my bill will be north of $1,000 for the repair WITH A USED PART, and no interim fix is baffling to me.

While driving the vehicle- the service emergency brake light came on. The emergency break then automatically engaged on its own and would not disengage. The car had to be towed because the e-brake would not disengage. It was raining the day this occurred. Dealership indicated that water got to the e-brake electronic components and corroded/fried the components and therefore need to be replaced. This also caused the calipers to seize and rotors/pads to need replacement. Jeep dealership and customer care are refusing to cover any costs of damage even though I've asked them to look into the active investigation being conducted on this issue as well as similar water intrusion issue with models that had power liftgate previously. https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/jeep-cherokee-parking-brake-investigation/ https://www.autoevolution.com/news/13-million-jeep-cherokee-vehicles-may-be-recalled-over-parking-brake-issue-194687.html

In the spring of 2021 my parking break and break light illuminated on my dash, my electronic emergency break would not disengage nor would my vehicle move in drive or reverse. After bringing my vehicle to a local mechanic, they diagnosed the issue that the EPB (electronic break module) which is located inside the rear end of the vehicle was corroded from water damage. Electronic park brake engaged without prompting. Dash indicator lights for Park Brake & Transmission Service along with 'D' for Drive on dash flashing. Could not move car due to park brake engaged. Took several restarts to disengage it. Happened twice with no dash warnings between incidents. Park brake engaging while driving is dangerous and I don't feel safe in this vehicle as I have had a prior issue with losing acceleration on the freeway leading to a scary event.
