I'm the owner of a 2014 Jeep Cherokee which I have recently taken in to be serviced due to a service light for the all wheel drive. The service representative did a great job outlining the issues resulting in a repair totaling $3,539.99 The diagnosis was that the powertrain on this vehicle has failed, and I have even noticed on the NHTSA website that out of 2,123 complaints on this vehicle, 1,224 (57%) are related to the failure of the powertrain on this model. 2014 Jeep Recalls associated with PTU: Safety Recall W48 / NHTSA 20E-037 Safety Recall W47 / NHTSA 20V-343 The two recalls were meant to circumvent the real issue of the recall. At the time of the recall if PTU's had not failed, they just replaced the splines to continue to function in the event of a PTU failure. If the PTU had failed, it was replaced. The issue with my vehicle, is that Jeep claims that the recalls are not applicable to my vehicle, as they were not a part of the recall, despite the track record of failed PTU's and the fact that jeep was replacing PTU's for 2014 Jeeps (just not mine). Regardless, the core issue was never addressed, which was the failure of the PTU (Power Train Unit). This issue was finally acknowledged in the 2015/2016 Jeep Cherokee (Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-302), however was never fully resolved with the 2014 jeep Cherokee. Now Jeep is not willing to acknowledge or take responsibility for this $3,539.99 repair order for something that is clearly a manufacturer defect.

Car stopped without warning in middle of road. Would not start. NO Warning lights on dash. Answer: Low oil level, car just turned engine off. NO dash warning for low oil. Happened multiple times. Now: After filling with gas, stopped at light, warning messages "Put Car in park" then drive. When put in Drive, rough and huge thunk. Almost got hit, but was able to pulled over. Called AAA., waited 45, and he drove it up onto bed to bring to mechanic. No problem. They did an oil change. Drove for days then very rough idle and driving. Each time, I was able to pull over w/o being hit. Now sometimes running sluggish going down road and almost hit again. This car is not even 10 years old, but I've lost count how many close calls my family has had. If you go on any of the Jeep forums, many, many owners are complaining abouts these same issues. Why does the maker of Jeeps fix all these issues on the forums BEFORE they build or design new ones?! I have owned a Jeep Grand Cherokee(electrical), Jeep Commander(rust from bottom up), Jeep Compass, now the Jeep Cherokee (by far the WORST one). Was a Jeep fan, but I have never run into so many weird issues. Even my mechanic has given up and said bring to dealership. He has 5 different Jeeps all with electrical/unknown issues.

While driving the vehicle in the highway, the transmission abruptly stopped responding, the power was lost and the transmission shifted into neutral. The dashboard showed the message " To shift Vehicle must be Stopped". Then the message change into "Shift to P then desired gear". This incident happened several times and Chrysler admitted the problem only on some models of their vehicles but not in cherokees 2014.

Service transmission light came on while driving. I had a warranty on the vehicle so I took it in to dealership in DeQueen AR they fixed the valve body on the transmission and almost exactly 1 year later the service transmission light came on again. Following that my service parking brake light came on and now the emergency brake is engaged and will not disengage. Why has there not been a recall on these items?

My 2014 Jeep Cherokee TrailHawk has a failed Power Transfer Unit (PTU) This failure causes harsh grinding noises and extremely jerky gear shifting at any speed. The vehicle lurches forward when changing gears and is a safety hazard. Pulling the F10 fuse seems to bypass the PTU but renders the 4x4 and other safety capabilities like slip/traction control useless. The problem has been confirmed by independent and dealer mechanics at extreme cost. There is a warning lamp that now indicates 'svc 4x4'. The only symptoms of the issue were the jerky forward lurching followed by grinding noises.

The vehicle turns off while running, all lights on dashboard turn OFF and the vehicle dies completely. I lose power steering, brakes everything just turns off. After the vehicle comes to a complete stop I can put in parking again and the vehicle turns back on. This has happened 3 times already, luckily I have been driving it where there is no a lot of traffic, but no longer drive it on the highway it would not be safe. It happened after the light SVC 4WD turned on.

The transmission since buying it at only 16000 miles has been nothing but a problem. Every recall to reprogram the tcm has not worked. It hard shifts all the time, shudders and jerks when going slow, and twice it has locked down and forced trans into neutral. Has to be towed and reprogrammed so not just unsafe but costs money to fix a problem it shouldn't have. I live in the mountains it could easily shut down where there is no pulloff as it once did right before a corner. There is so many complaints online and so many not working recalls when will someone do something about this problem. This is the most expensive vehicle I ever bought and it is a nightmare. So much so I will never buy a jeep product again and I owned 5 older ones before this. Make jeep replace or do a real fix please. Thousands of people need this fixed or it will turn in to a massive lawsuit.

My Jeep Cherokee has been diagnosed by a mechanic having issues with the PTU (Power Transfer Unit), code C14A7-97. If the PTU fails to engage with the transmission, the Cherokee could lose all power while being driven. Mopar does have a recall for SOME Jeep Cherokees experiencing this issue, but my VIN was not identified as part of this recall. The recall should be for all vehicles that were made in this same time frame and are known to have issues. The Jeep has had all of the software updates done to it but still has problem. Mopar should be responsible for this repair as they are repairing other vehicles with the same problem.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but also occurred while depressing the accelerator pedal after stopping. The vehicle would not move forward for several seconds. The contact stated that the engine would not rev when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the power transfer unit (PTU) and rear differential needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V343000 (Power Train) however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 134,000.

My Jeep Cherokee has been diagnosed by a mechanic using Stellantis software for having issues with the PTU (Power Transfer Unit), requiring replacement of the entire unit. When this fails, it can result in complete power loss to the entire vehicle while driving, a huge safety concern for anyone driving this vehicle. Mopar does have a recall for SOME Jeep Cherokees experiencing this issue, but my VIN was not identified as part of this recall. I feel this is incorrect as I am experiencing the exact same problems with the exact same parts identified in the other recall. This is such a global issue that this part is on back order for the foreseeable future. My Jeep also fell under a prior recall regarding reprogramming the PTU. It just seems obvious to me that Mopar is at fault here, and I'd like this to be addressed.

1st Repair Attempt: On April 2, 2021, 14 days after I purchased the vehicle (Purchase date: 3/18/2021), I received multiple error messages stating "Service Electronic Parking Break" "Service Anti Lock Breaking System" "Service Park Brake" "MIL" light was blinking "CEL" light was on as well and my vehicle would not accelerate. I was on a high traffic interstate and could not move the vehicle to exit to the shoulder. The dealer stated that my PCM/TCM needed to be "flashed" and my ABS Module needed to be replaced due to a CSN W20, W84 and W80 code. The part to replace the ABS Module was not in stock and my vehicle remained with the dealership until April 16, 2021 (a total of 15 days) 2nd Repair Attempt: On May 21, 2021, 35 days after the repair attempt, for the 2nd time I received multiple error messages stating "Service Electronic Parking Break" "Service Anti Lock Breaking System" "Service Park Brake" "MIL" light was blinking "CEL" light was on as well and my vehicle would not accelerate. My children were in the car when this happened. Well maintained vehicle that has the 4wd warning light activate. Diagnostic code states Power Transfer Unit PTU error - not safe to drive. I have researched 2014 Jeep issues and there are a LOT of reported problems - many related to this same issue. This seems unacceptable to me and the cost of repair or worse another car is cost prohibitive. In this day and age cars should certainly last over 10 years and well over 100,000 miles. Thank you
