  • 139,000 miles
Constant transmission issues/ jerks and hard thrusts. Been in Jeep dealership many times with complaint. Same issues now out of warranty. Now as of Dec 25 2020, vehicle went completely dead, came back on and now throws all service lights on dash and vehicle will not move out of gear. Have to disconnect battery to put into park/neutral to move out of way. Undriveable. This 2014 lattitude has been a nightmare and an unsafe vehicle from the beginning. Unfortunately I was upside down on finance or it would have been gone. Now with it almost being paid off I am in financial ruin over this once again. Unsafe vehicle.

Cherokee 4-cyl

  • 92,000 miles
2014 Jeep Cherokee latitude 4 cylinder, battery went completely dead then came back in a hour, then shift (zf 9 speed transmission) got stuck in neutral. The only way to turn off the engine was to disconnect the battery seeing it was the weekend. Today 12/3/20, told that Jeep dealership software fixed the software issue, but I was told that I must have broken the shift while trying to get it into gear (not true) and must pay $300 for the diagnostic besides the entire HVAC system had to be replaced (which meant "no heat" in the car or venting which was already broken before incident but we had not needed any heat. When the car gear stuck, the vehicle was not in motion and I could not shut the engine off so the battery had to be disconnected. So cost of diagnostic, new shift entirely, and new HVAC system and the car does not have 100,000 miles yet. Consumer stated dealership is currently waiting for new shift to replace the broken one.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the transmission inadvertently shifted to the neutral causing the vehicle to lose motive power. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer to be diagnosed. The mechanic determined the cause as an electrical failure. Additionally, the transmission software needed to be reprogrammed. The transmission software was reprogrammed however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 19V447000 (power train). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 42,000. Vehicle has been repaired.

In October of 2020 while driving on the highway my Jeep shut off and lost all motive and electric power. The steering wheel locked up and the brakes applied themselves. My wife was driving, doing about 40-45mph. A message came up that said put vehicle in park and turn off. After doing so my wife was able to turn the vehicle back on and get home safely. We took our Jeep into to be looked at by the dealership. They said they found a code for low voltage but the battery was good, just loose connections.. no other codes were present. They also stated that they found loose grohnd cables to the chassis and PCM, both were tightened. On 11/18/2020 after filling my gas tank, I turned on to the frontage road and my jee again lost all power. Gave me a message that vehicle must be stopped before shifting gears.

Jeep Cherokee 4X4 limited (less than 61,000 miles) will have transfer of power between front wheels (4X4 not engaged) and delay of power transfer. From a complete stop, power transferred from left to right front wheel multiple times causing the vehicles to swerve back and forth. Afterwards, a continuous audible grinding and popping sound-most notable when the wheels are turned.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while his daughter was making a left turn, the vehicle stalled with the shift to drive warning and low battery lights illuminated. The driver coasted into a parking space where the push to start button was depressed several times to turn the vehicle off and on. The vehicle was restarted and driven to pomoco Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram of newport news (12629 jefferson ave, newport news, va 23602) where the failure was diagnosed as a defective fuel pump. The fuel pump and canister were replaced. The contact stated that the fuel pump and canister were replaced by the previous owner in 2019. The contact stated that previously when the vehicle was filled with fuel, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that his daughter parked and left the vehicle running to burn fuel to drive the vehicle without issues. The contact stated that the fuel tank needed to be at a half or tank to prevent the vehicle from stalling. The contact referenced manufacturer tsb: S1814000002 as the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was unknown.

When driving the Jeep it feels sluggish and appears to trying to find a gear to shift to. It clunks when pulling away from a stop. Sometimes the transmission takes a long time to shift and the rpms go to about 3800 to 4000 before it will shift. This has been an ongoing issue with this model and year Jeep. How is it that the government allows auto companies to get away with this. I do not have the money to have this fixed when it is a manufactures problem. I am seeing more than enough complaints to warrant a recall or tsb.

Everything that the internet says about the 2014 Jeep Cherokee tigershark engine and the 9 speed transmission is happening and has been since 2017. It has been to the dealership at least 4 times involving the same thing. Engine stalls on the freeway!!! stops shifting. Wont go into drive. Slams into gears. Jeep says its a battery, low oil or motor mount problem. There is no way this is why this is happening. The transmission and the engine are the problem and they will not fix it. 2020 alone it has been at the dealership for at least 2 to 3 weeks. I have communication and service records, case numbers from Jeep that dont do anything, this is unacceptable to not fix something they did not do correctly.

My 2014 Jeep Cherokee will stall unexpectedly. This has happened while accelerating and/or turning at a stop sign or red light. I took it to the dealership and they described it as follows "the stalling is a safety feature when the oil gets low". the dealership checked the oil and it was very low. This is a repeated problem and happens before the recommended 5000 miles oil change frequency. The last time it happened, the "oil life" screen said I had 28% oil life left ( I had been following it to avoid stalling out unexpectedly.... which didn't help and I once again stalled at a red light in traffic). My main safety concern is the fact that there is no indicator light for low oil, and the first indication is my car stalling out in traffic which could cause a wreck. This can't be safe nor meet safety guidelines/requirements. My second concern is the fact that my engine is burning off that much oil so quickly (verified to have no leaks in the system). When searching the internet, I have found this to be a common problem with people stating they also had no indication except for the sudden stalling out. I feel this is something that should be fully investigated as a safety concern. It seems to have at least enough of a case to be a lawsuit in two states (California and Michigan) at the time of me writing this- sep2020.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle stalled with the instrument panel indicating shift to park and shift to desire gears. The failure recurred numerous times. The contact also stated that while entering a driveway or while in reverse and also while driving the vehicle would start to shake and jerk violently. The contact also mentioned that the steering wheel locked up and pulled to the left while her daughter was driving. The instrument panel indicated shift to park and shift to desire gears and also indicated service transmission and also service brakes. The contact powered off the vehicle and restarted the vehicle, shifted out of neutral then into park before selecting drive. The vehicle drove normal to half a block before the failure recurred. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to spirit automotive Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (4611 avenue Q, lubbock, tx 79412), but was not diagnosed. The mechanic updated the transmission control software under NHTSA campaign number: 19V447000 (power train). After leaving the dealer, the vehicle started to shake and before reaching her residence the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was restarted, coasted into her driveway and stalled. The contact called an independent mechanic and was advised to contact the manufacturer. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer for them to update the software again. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer but was not diagnosed nor repaired. The technician called the contact and informed her the vehicle was ready for pick up however, the failure recurred. The contact schedule an appointment for a diagnostic test which was still pending. The failure mileage was approximately 97,700.

Again the check engine light came on. This is our 2nd engine and the dealer says it is this new engine that needs to be replaced. The Jeep will idle rough, shift on it's own, all the same transmission issues. And now the parking brake locked up and I had to have it towed home. I assume it is the transimission because it still will throw it in neutral while driving.
