I noticed that I was having trouble with the shifting mechanism. More recently I have had several incidents of having to manipulate the shifter to start the car. On 7-26-2001 I was standing behind the vehicle(it was running and in park) when all of a sudden the vehicle jumped into reverse without anyone being in the vehicle. My daughter is 9 months and I would hate to have this problem when I am taking her out of or placing her into her car seat. I contacted the manufacturer on 7/27/2001 but still have no response. Is there something else I should do? I am taking the Jeep to be looked at 8/4/2001 should I have them look for anything specific. I had shut off engine and had put it into park, opened door and had just put foot onto ground when the vehicle started to roll backwards. I was unable to get back into vehicle as the door was still open and the vehicle started rolling backwards too fast, so I reached in and hit the brake pedal with my hands. The passenger in front seat put it back into park. I had minor injuries from being dragged those few feet. The three of us had seen me put it into park.

Consumer placed the vehicle in park and went out of vehicle to drop some mail, driver's side door was opened. After she got out of vehicle it then jumped out of gear and into reverse, causing door to fall off. Dealer did not find defect for transmission.

Vehicle was in park while engine was still running. Within minutes vehicle started to roll backwards. Vehicle came to a stop when it hit house.

Consumer stopped at a gas station, got out and left the vehicle running. Consumer was told the vehicle was moving backwards, and by the time the consumer got in, vehicle had already hit another vehicle. Both vehicles were damaged. A week before, consumer took the vehicle to dealer because of hearing a grinding sound when in reverse. Dealer at that time replaced the valve system. The shifter cable was loose right after the valve work had been completed.

A parking garage attendant pulled my car out for me and stepped out of the car, and walked several feet away. I was standing behind the car attempting to put my bike on the bike rack when it suddenly started backing up on top of me. I tried to hold the car.

While in a parked position vehicle jumped out of gear. Consumer no longer owns vehicle. But dealer was made aware of problem at time of incident. Consumer is employed by Jeep.
