Brakes have been a problem for the past 8 months but was told that I may not be driving Jeep "properly". the brakes would squeak, steering would shudder, occasionally brake would lose pressure at a stop & the sound of metal on metal heard. Brakes were checked with no reported problem. I had to replace brakes & rotors as it was difficult to control the vehicle &another incident of brakes going to floor at a stop sign. Dealer said its normal for brakes/rotors to be replaced at this time(it's poor quality materials in rotors in my opinion) & since they can't reproduce the brake problem, there is no problem.

While driving about 35-40 mph +, there is vibration every time when braking which may cause extended stopping distance. Took to dealer 3 times. Dealer resurfaced rotor and replaced rotor. Currently, there is a tsb on this problem which dealer needs to replace rotors and brake pads. Recently, the dealer replaced brake pads and resurfaced front and rear rotors.

Lots of wobbling/shaking uponbraking at speeds of 50-55 and above. First noticed at 11,000 miles. By 16,000 shaking was violent and risked losing control ov vehicle -- brought to dealer for service. Shaved front rotors -- charged $150. Noted that 40% of pads still left. Told rear brakes ok. Shaking began again at 22,000 miles. Now back at dealer at 26,000 for yet another brake job -- retool both front and back rotors, and replace front pads. Told that brakes are building up "too much heat" but that there is no guarantee that this will not happen again. Another $150 charge, this time for the rear rotors. Dealer will not replace rotors unless I pay for it.

Every 3,000 miles braking system pulsated, causing steering wheel to shake or vibrate due to the rotor being warped. Occurred 5 times. Dealer could not determine the cause. Brakes are continuous problem. New rotors were installed alsto but the problem is still there.

Front brake rotors warped at 11,000 26,000 33,000 and 42,000. Each of the first three times the rotors were replaced only to fail again.the last time the rotors were cut and I have less than 1,000 on the cut rotors thus far.each time the dealer and mfg. Rep blame it on driving habits. In discussing with other Jeep owners this seems to be a common problem and also sveral service stations in the area are seeing this problem in many Jeep.4 rotor failures in 40,000 is rediculous and an explanation such as driving habits is an insult to ones intelegence...this may be a huge problem with Jeep owners since Jeep has put out two tech service bullitens on dealing with the problem.

At about 7,000 miles on the Jeep it started to have vibrations of the steering wheel and front end and pulling to the right when braking, especially in the 40-60 mph range and especially when going down hill. The dealer performed service at 10530 miles and stated that rotors were warped. He machined the rotors. The problem returned almost immediately. At 13734 miles service requested again as by this time the car actually just about jumped off the road with the vibrations which occurred and the pull to the right, when braking. Report of dealer states, "test drove vehicle and confirmed customers concern of brake pulsation. R7R all wheels and rotors. Measured rotor runout and thickness variation is.001 on all rotors. Runout on front is.010. Runout onrears is.008. Checked all four hubs for runout all four at less than.0015. Replaced front and rear rotors. At a regular service appointment at 17347 miles (on 03/01/00) the service slip indicates that I reported that "the brakes are starting to pulsate". in March of 2000 the vibration and pulling to the right was such a problem that I again returned the Jeep to the dealer. This time I wrote a detailed letter of the problem, both for the dealer and with a request that that letter be sent on to Jeep management as a complaint. I do not know if the dealer did that. In the letter (copy available) described the problem in detail. I also stated, "the real issue is that I have never had a vehicle with such a defective braking system. It is not only unnerving and takes away from driving enjoyment, but it is clearly a safety problem. It has been of interest to me that all of your service professionals with whom I have dealt have indicated that this has beeen a commonly seen problem with the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Not only have your received service guidance from Chrysler on this problem, but I have been led to believe that you anticipate some sort of better "fix" of the problem from the manufacturer."

Rotors warped at 8000 & 14000 miles.this is the first vehicle ive owned that the rotors warped this soon.ive done some research on the internet I am not the only Grand Cherokee owner I personaly found 100's of complants of wraped roters all the way back to the early 90's.the dealer stated this is normal!!!!! please check into this problem Jeep does not seem to care or it would cost them more money than care to lose.

Brake rotors warped, and subsequently replaced with same quality, thus are warped again, causing severe shaking to front end upon braking. Mfg. Zone mgr refuses to correct situation, stating it is wear and tear, (NHTSA campaign-00V136000). Starter drags intermittently upon starting with a complete failure at 500 miles. Mfg will not replace starter until it completely fails again. Heat is resricted to drivers feet, and high pitched sound is heard as a result of the restriction. Mfg. Tech service bulletin on file for problem, but dealer calls it normal. Remote control memory side view mirrors will not reset to proper positions, thus causing a safety issue, as mirrors are never in the same place twice. Dealer observed problem and disregarded same. Pittsburgh zone manager contacted by dealer. Mgr refuses to do anything, even though safety issues are involved, as with brakes, mirrors, and starting problem.

Rotors were replaced at 6500 miles, resurfaced ath 13500 miles, and resurfaced at 18500 miles. This seems excessive wear.

Whole vehicle vibrated as brakes were applied. All four rotors were refinished. After contacting Chrysler the costs were reimbusred. Six weeks later I'm noticing a vibration again. I believe I should have a whole new brake system put in.

Rotors had to be turned at 7,000 miles and at 9,000 miles. Rotors had to be recoiled and lubed, causing steering wheel to vibrate heavily. Also, a loud squealing noise at low or at high speeds.

Am on my fourth set of front rotors. They start vibrating at about 4,000M and just get worse. Dealer helpful but Chrysler needs to supply rotors that can do the job, not pizzas.
