Vehicle powers backward by itself when stopped unless foot is constantly, forcefully on the brake pedal.

I put the vehicle into park got out to spray windows heard a loud pop turned around and the vehicle was rolling backwards. I tried to jump in to stop it but was knocked over by the door and the vehicle ran over my right leg causing severe bruises and pulled muscles with a posible hairline fracture reasulting in my being on crutches and in a leg brace for 2.5 months and a knee brace for 6 weeks after that causing loss of work for 2.5 months.

The Jeep was in parked in my garage. The transmission was in the park position. The keys were in the ignition. The ignition was in the off position. It was morning. I had not driven the car that day. I got out of the car to go into the house to get my wallet. The garage is in the basement level. I went up to the second floor and heard a crash. I looked out the window and saw my car. It had rolled out of the garage, down an incline into the side of my neighbor's van. The van was totalled. The car had jumped out of park and rolled out of my garage.

In 1998 within 30 days of purchasing the Jeep, I parked in the driveway of my home to pick up the mail, . I put the Jeep into park. The gear jumped into reverse after I got out of th ejeep and it started to drive in reverse. I grabed the open door but it was going so fast it knocked me over and the tires rolled over my leg. The Jeep proceeded to drive in reverse, across the street -onto a neighbors lawn and backed into a tree. Someone had to put the Jeep into park, again and shut the car off. I was taken to the hospital by amblance where I had a series of operations on my leg. The dealer and the manufacturer claimed that I must have put the Jeep into reverse instead of park. I had the Jeep repaired and still have it.

I drove the vehicle to the end of the driveway, placed it in park and got out to check the mail. While at the mailbox, I realized the car was in reverse backing up the driveway. After reading about a recent investigation into the Grand Cherokee going into reverse, it prompted me to report the problems I have had with this vehicle. My Grand Cherokee had gone into reverse unexpectedly twice now. Once it resulted in damage. The second time I caught it. It appears that when shifting into park, the shifter will bounce back into reverse without warning. On both occasions I was exiting the vehicle when it began to go into reverse. The second problem involves the front disc assemblies. It appears that they warp early in their lifespan. I noticed a lot of vibration when applying brakes at speeds greater than 40 mph. This started at about 15000 miles and gets progressively worse. Several other Grand Cherokee owners have said to me that they have experienced the same problem.

1st occurrence - placed vehicle in park on a flat parking lot, removed keys, an dwent into restaurant. Approximately 30 minutes later, waitress asked if any of us drove a new Jeep, Jeep rolled approximately 2 feet out of the parking space. Gear shift was found in drive. Have witnesses. 2nd occurrence - placed vehicle in park on level part of driveway, removed keys from ignition, removed packages from the rear of the vehicle, closed hatch, went into the house, immediately went back outside and vehicle was not in driveway. Vehicle rolled out of the driveway, across the street, down a 75 feet enbankment into a creek. Do not know how much damage vehicle incurred. Crysler refuses negligence due to not having emergency brake set. Crysler wants my insurance to pay for the damage. Gear shift moves without pressing release button and keys are removed from iginition. I have this documented on video, and I have several witnesses. Visited several Jeep dealership in Kansas City not one emergency brake was set in this particular vehicle.
