Vehicle rolled backwards on slight incline. Car was not running. Checked and made sure vehicle was in park. It was. Started the vehicle and drove back up incline. Vehicle rolled back down while running. Drove straight to a spitzer Jeep dealership. Put vehicle on larger incline. Vehicle would not roll. Service person, dan, told me to keep an eye on it and bring it back if it did it again.

Disc brakes continually need work. Rotors warp and must be turned every 10,000 miles! now the automatic transmission won't shift out of 2nd gear until the car is warmed up. What next? the brake maintenance alone has cost me nearly $2,000. This is a $30,000 vehicle and should not require this much maintenance!

Grand Cherokee 4WD 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 57,000 miles
I purchased my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee in 1999. I have been in and out of the dealer service for repeat major problems. My tire squeaked loudly while driving and after a year of not finding the problem, and fixing what they thought was the problem the left front wheel bearing was replaced and solved that problem. During the problem with the squeak they informed me that the transfer case had a problem and the solution was to drain and refill the 4WD transfer case fluid, I had them complete the service. Also during my cargo door would not open neither would the window, they replaced the latch lift. The next problem was that I was noticing smoke coming from underneath my hood. I brought that to their attention and they notice a fluid leak and had to replace my cylinder head gasket. The smoke was still there after that effort and now my transmission has went out. I need an overhaul transmission that will cost $1800 because now it's out of warranty. When I called the dealership they made it seem as if I did not take care of my vehicle. When my Jeep needs servicing I always went to the dealership (5 star) so they can help me take care of my investment. Any needed repair that was requested I had done. My Jeep only has 57,000 miles on it. The crysler company has most definitely lost a customer.

Grand Cherokee 6-cyl

I purchased a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo in August 2000. Yesterday, my transmission failed and would jerk when shifted into reverse. Today, I contacted the dealership and was basically told "too bad, " because my warranty was expired. I asked to speak to the gentleman that sold me the Jeep, was placed on hold for several minutes and then transferred to someone else's voice mail. My Jeep is 3 years old and has 60,000 miles on it (transmission failure!!!--I've had vehicles for 10 years with no transmission problems and three times as many miles). The business manager stated that she had seen vehicles with 3,000 miles on them fail (better watch out). The estimated cost to fix the transmission $1650. I purchased this vehicle new for reliable transportation and have had problems ever since. I have also had problems with the brakes and had to get the front rotors replaced as they were warped. My back windshield wiper hesitates before starting. It is sometimes hard to start and that has been happening since shortly after purchase. Staff at the dealerships are rude and unresponsive when notified of problems. Staff at the dealership informed me that repairs on my Jeep for a wiring problem would take 3 days, and they ordered the wrong parts and kept my Jeep for over 2 weeks (and then I had to take it back the next day due to wiring problems). I also hope Chrysler is aware that they have just lost a loyal Jeep owner/fan. I will never purchase another Jeep and will certainly not recommend it to anyone. I can't wait to get rid of this piece of crap.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 4.7L 4X4. Intermittent delayed engagement of gears when accelerating. Makes roaring noise as engine increases RPM without generating torque. Happens most between 20 and 50 mph. Also, quadra-trak II 4 wd no longer provides noticeable power to the front wheels. Rear wheels keep spinning. Dealers say everything (pumps, fluids, etc.) checks out, but formerly outstanding 4WD performance is embarrassing at best.

Transmission make a noise when you put it in reverse. Sounds like the transmission has fallen out. When you put it back in park and try it again it doesn't do it until it has set for a while.

My jgc has had off and on problems since I bought it virtually. Not being a particularly complaint oriented person, I at first attributed the transmission problem on this truck to the fact that I had never owned a 4WD vehicle before. From the outset this truck shuddered when in a tight turn, either direction. During the first winter II owned it, I left it in my driveway in park only to come out later to find it at the end of my drive. This happened a number of times, once stopping only because it stopped up against my wife's car. I thought I was crazy at first--now I won't leave this vehicle on a flat surface without the emergency brake on. Recently, the truck developed a huge, and frightening "clunk" between 2nd and 3rd gear I believe. Again, I did not make much of this until the "check engine" light came on more or less permanently. The truck will no longer shift into appropriate gear, has poor acceleration and worsening gas milage, and runs at erratic at best rpms. I have taken it too the dealer who on the first visit told me they couldn't reproduce the problem and told me to bring it back when it happened again. It happened again on the way out the lot. I took the truck back about a week later and was told it would cost about $250 to diagnose the problem. A week later, I took it back to the dealer, angry that I had found my exact problem on a technical service bulliten from Chrysler itself. The dealer althogh very nice basically told me I would have to pay to have the transmission replaced at a cost of some (at least) $3,000. I am taking the car back next week to have the dealer tear down the transmission, after having attempted to speak to the district manager, who mysteriously disappearred upon my arrival. Having read now virtually identical complaints to mine on this internet sight, I am now torn between letting them repair it to what seems like no avail, filing a lawsuit, or trading the vehicle in and losing a ton of money. Thank you for your time.
