My Jeep Grand Cherokee's ventilation system has a fault component which causes the vents to blow all cold or all hot air. It causes my windshield to fog up uncontrollably. The repair should really be the product of a factory recall, instead, it will cost me approx $1400 to fix this problem on my own. I know this is a major failure point on these vehicles from 1999-2004. It is a major safety concern and I am willing to file a class-action suit against daimler Chrysler as a result of this failure.

Blower system blend door failure.
- Lansdale, PA, USA
: the contact stated while driving 65 mph on normal road conditions, the windshield defroster did not work. There were no warning lights illuminated prior to the incident. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, who determined the mid case blend needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was also contacted, who expressed the failure was not a safety feature and the repair must be covered by the contact. The contact expressed concern because a lack of visibility should be considered a safety risk and the repair was rather expensive.

Defective HVAC blend doors on Jeep Grand Cherokee from 99-04. Under normal use these blend doors fail and require a $1800 fix that requires total disassembly of the interior of the vehicle by a trained dealer mechanic. In order to have adequate heat and cooling in my vehicle I had to pay to get it fixed.

Under normal use of my 2002 Grand Cherokee overland, the automatic climate controls system has started to not work properly. The problem is that when the heat is on, cold air will blow on the passenger side and the front defrost will not work properly either. I have not fixed the failure yet because the repairs cost over $800 and I can't afford it.
- Charlotte, NC, USA
Failed HVAC blender doors have caused vehicle to lose heat functionality. This is causing the car to be unable to defrost so during poor weather conditions the vehicle is unusable.

Several months ago I lost heat on the passengers side in my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 4X4 sport utility 4dr. I had been trying to save up some money to go have this fixed, and had been searching all over the internet looking on Jeep' websites even, trying to figure out what was wrong with my Jeep. Then on Friday, November 10, 2006, the driver side heat quit working during a snow storm. I left work about 5:00 pm and it was snowing and starting to freeze. The windows werent getting foggy or anything they where just icing up it got to the point where I could only see out of a little spot right where the fan blew on the window. I went 35 mph on a 65 mph speed zone because oncoming traffic would temporarily blind me. I don't live in Florida, I live in Montana. What are people around here suppose to do when this happens to them. Stop on the side of the road to scrape the ice of their windows, as another vehicle plows over them, due to the icy road conditions. In Montana we have long commutes, some people drive from red lodge all the way to billings. It takes an hour and to 2 hours depending on the weather. We don't have taxis. This problem can happen at any time. This may not be a problem to people in a warmer climate, but it is to people up North. A very common problem in 1999-2004 model Grand Cherokee has been weak blend and recirculation doors in the HVAC systems. In January of 2004 Jeep issued an informational tsb (#24-001-04) which introduced newly designed sub assemblies. www.wjjeeps.com I have found the items, the repair instructions and the tsb # on this website www.wjjeeps.com/hvac_sub_assembly.htm and there is still no recall on it. This is a threatening problem to Jeep consumers, especially the ones in colder climates. I can't afford Jeep mistakes, whether it's financially for physical.

Failure of heating system on passenger side of vehicle. The failure of a blend door caused only cold air to be sent to all passenger side air discharges which include the windshield defroster. On cool morning the passenger side windshield would not clear completely of dew, this problem could severely compromise sight out of the right side in the winter months. Several web sites that were visited while researching cause indicated that this is a common problem and parts have been upgraded, also stated that due to labor involved that it was a very costly repair. Some people writing in to these sites indicated that repairs would no be made. Individual driving as well as the rest of the public that are on the roadways with the affected vehicles.

This is my 4th Jeep. Here is a little background on this issue. I purchased a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the overland edition. The dealership pushed buying a used certified Jeep vehicle! they mentioned the extended warranty that would take care of any issues that the Jeep had during the last years of my ownership. I went in the dealership looking to purchase a new vehicle but they told me all the added benefits / value from buying from the used Jeep facility! the warranty: As mentioned I purchased the warranty sold by Jeep at the local dealership. The service agreement that was sold by the dealership went bankrupt! gary miller Chrysler Jeep Isuzu located in erie, pa sold this to me. My 1st issue was when I decided to take the vehicle in because of a vibration while driving. I was made aware that the company was bankrupt when tying to call and find out what information will be needed when I go to the local Jeep dealership in Kansas City. Furthermore I mentioned to the Jeep dealership that pushed the contract that I am wiling to purchase the best contract to make sure I do not have an issue with my new vehicle in the future. The constant issues: I have now taken in my Jeep for 6 visits! I have only included some of the payments (see the additional paperwork) but you can see a trend here. This Jeep had been nothing but a problem since I purchased the vehicle! I am now stuck replacing the steering pump for the 2nd time! I have to pay for the replacement and live without a vehicle. I am out several thousand dollars and still have to take this vehicle (that Jeep pushed on me) to the service shop about every 6 months. I just started driving my vehicle from the last service repair (I am getting very familiar to the local Jeep dealerships) and still the item is not fixed and my Jeep is leaking oil all over our company driveway. This vehicle is a lemon and the company that made the vehicle sold me a bankrupt contract.

Engine light came on my Jeep I took it to the dealership and they informed me the light is from a malfunction with the gas cap seal. Also the heater and A/C don't work and I had them look into it they said the main device inside the dash was malfunctioning and want to charge me over $850. Also my seat heaters don;T work anymore and again they said the heating pad failed. They refuse to repair the malfunctioning parts stating it's not cover in the warranty that ended 1 and a 1/2 month ago

Faulty dual climate control.
- Houston, TX, USA
Dual climate controlls on Jeep fail. One side of the units will not heat and only blows cold air thus making winter driving very dangerous. I believe this is a known defect that should be looked at.
- Longview, TX, USA
2002 Grand Cherokee limited has a known problem with the dual climate control system. A door in the system routinely breaks or strips as soon as the vehicle has passed the manufacturers warranty end date. One side(drivers) of the system works as advertised, however the passenger side will only blow extremely cold air. The cost to rectify this anomaly is around $800 at a Jeep dealership. From reading several automotive repair forums on the internet, this problem is occurring in a very high number, probably percentage of vehicles. Supposedly Jeep is aware of the defective part used in the system and is not doing anything about it. At what point is an auto manufacturer required to issue a recall" is there anything consumers can do to force the maker of the vehicle to fix defective parts".

On dual climate controls, one side of the vent will not let hot air circulate but blows just cold air. Will not defrost on one side. After talking to other Jeep owners this seems to be a commam problem.
