The right rear door handle has broken off making it impossible to open the door from the inside. The plastic that the handle mounts to has completely disintegrated and the right front door is starting to do the same thing. The vehicle is otherwise in excellent condition and has been impeccably maintained. After researching this issue I found that this appears to be a chronic problem. This is a serious safety concern as it is impossible to exit the vehicle from these doors.

All 4 door handles of my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee are broken. The 2 rear handles are completely broken off so the doors don't open from the inside. The 2 front handles are basically hanging by a thread. It's definitely a safety issue-if anyone, especially kids, were in the backseat they would not be able to escape during an accident. While researching the recent ignition recall, I stumbled on many, many people with the same door handle problem - I thought our car was just a lemon! the cost to fix one door is $700 and certainly not in the budget so we've had to live with it! the potential safety risk of this should be of great concern and Jeep should be required to fix it!! thank you.

3 of the interior door handles are cracked, the driver and passenger door handles and rear driver side passenger, this is a dangerous safety issue, if handle completely breaks in an emergency situation passengers would not be able to exit the vehicle causing serious injury or death. www.carcomplaints.com/Jeep/grand_cherokee/2005/accessories-interior/door_handles_have_broken_from_interior_door_panels.shtml

My inside door handles are cracking and collapsing. The plastic is defective and does not last. I now open my driver door by rolling my window down and opening it from the outside. I went to moore Chrysler Jeep in peoria AZ and they took pictures but they came back and said they will not be fixing this because its out of there good will period. This is not ok, there are 1000's of people with the same exact problem! I believe they should fix this for free!

All four door handle assembly system are gone 100% crumbled !! the handles are just hanging there. Any passengers in back seat can't get out of vehicle and according to my research this is a problem with thousands of these vehicles... the door handle casing assembly should be recalled immediately or do you just wait for someone to perish from not being able to open these doors??

When opening the passenger side door I noticed it was cracking. I just purchased the car used and found that all 4 door have the same issue though the back doors are far worse. This needs to be repaired asap. And Jeep will not cover the cost for repair as it's not on their recall list. It can result in injury if there is an emergency and the passengers cannot open the doors

I drove into an advance auto parking and when I was driving the car seem to accelerated and I could not turn the wheel on the car I tried to push the brakes to stop the car but the braking system was not working. I could not turn the wheel and the braking system was not working and I started to panic. My car ran right into a metal pole and totaled my car. The police at the seen told me and my husband that the impact that the vehicle took, the airbags should of came out, but they did not. My car is totaled and the body of the car in the front is split in half.

I own a garage kept, 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 2wd with approximately 80,000 miles. 3 of the 4 interior door handles are severely cracking making it difficult to open the door. This is a safety concern because once they full break, the door in unable to be opened from the interior. Cost to repair each door is over $800. I contacted Jeep customer support on 6-22-15, but was told this was not a known issue and that there was no assistance they could provide in repairing the door. This is a well documented safety issue and needs to be address so that consumers can get assistance in dealing with the safety problem.

The inside driver door handle assembly has cracked and broken thus rendering the door a safety hazard should the driver need to exit the vehicle quickly. I contacted Jeep and the only solution is to replace the entire interior door panel at a cost of $700 plus. This seems to be a pretty common defect with this model as well as the Jeep commanders.

There is a known issue on the Jeep Grand Cherokee 2005 model where the interior door handle housing cracks and the handle falls and becomes unusable. This happens on all doors of car but the first one to go in my case was the drivers side door. Once the handle falls you are unable to get out of the car using that door. In the event of an emergency this could be extremely hazardous. Jeep has not provided a fix except to replace the entire door. A recall is needed as almost everyone with this model of car is having the same issue.

Approx. 2012, the casing that the inside door handle sits on cracked and broke apart; and, as a result, the door could no longer be opened from the inside because the handle was no longer secured and just hanged. I noticed approx. A year ago that the handle's casing was cracked on both the back driver and front passenger sides. Since, the back driver's side has broken and the door cannot be opened from the inside. I just noticed that the driver's side is also cracked and with time it will also break and the door can no longer be opened. This is a dangerous because once the casings break it does not allow anyone to exit from the vehicle. I am in awe that the issue has not been resolved when many others have the same safety concern. This is not a matter of wear and tear because very seldom does anyone sit in my back seats. No design or defect should compromise the handle where a passenger is not able to exit a car.

Door handle broke off on the driver door and every door handle is about to break. Due to very weak and dry plastic used to make from Jeep. Extreme safety hazard for all of the occupants of the vehicle especially in an emergency situation. Children or adults in seats not knowing how to get out of car in an emergency could be deadly. Jeep should have a recall on this situation.

The interior driver door panel is broken by the interior door handle. It started as a crack in the plastic by the handle. Now there is a hole in the plastic behind the handle. Because of this, the door handle has to be used very carefully. The whole panel has to be replaced at a cost of over $900. I am concerned that in an emergency, I would not be able to open the door from the inside. The back seat driver side door handle is also starting to crack. I feel this is a design flaw with the Jeep.

Dec 232014

Grand Cherokee 6-cyl

  • 68,000 miles
The interior door handles are all broken because Jeep decided to go with the cheap route instead of using quality parts. The door handles crumble with very little effort and make it impossible to get out of the car from the inside. This is a very serious problem because if there were an accident or if the car were to become submerged, I would not be able to open my door from the inside and I would die. I've seen many complaints from other Jeep owners online and it is ridiculous that a factory defective part like this would not be recalled when it can cause a safety concern like this.
