Grand Cherokee Limited

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles

I bought a 2011 Jeep Cherokee in June 2014 with 36,700 miles on it from a Jeep dealer in Massachusetts. Less than 3 months into my ownership of this vehicle, it began causing me significant mechanical problems. This is my FIFTH Jeep and the first one that is literally ruining my life. My monthly loan payment is $434.37 for this vehicle. My extended Mopar warranty, which I bought from the Jeep dealer, is valid through June 2017. So far, it covers none of these costly issues, nor does the Jeep recall! I have paid $1951.18 in the last 10 weeks for this Jeep! The vehicle currently has about 45,000 miles on it.

FOURTH ISSUE since September 5th 2014: On November 16, my Jeep will not start. It will not turn over or make any noise. Triple A comes to the house, got it started once and then Jeep shut off and would NOT start again. AAA guy said it is NOT the battery. He suggests it could be a starter or electrical issue. AAA tows the vehicle to the local dealer again. I got it back yesterday after paying $1075.50! The dealer told me they gave me a new starter for FREE! This is what the service tech writes: ‘starter does not engage. check for codes. no codes. used witech and check data on pcm and found that pcm sees the key go to the start position which energizes pin 86 of the starter relay. check for power at pin 30 of the starter relay and it has no power. check wiring diagram for tipm and pin 30 gets it power internally from tipm. needs tipm to start.’

The dealer I bought the Jeep from, which is not close to my home, the local Jeep dealer and Chrysler Jeep tell me NONE of these issues is covered by the TIPM recall! I am a single Mom. My route sales job is on the line with all the time off work due to this vehicle. My son’s Christmas list won’t get filled this year! I owe too much to get rid of this defective and potentially deadly vehicle!

I welcome any suggestions, assistance, recommendations...

Engine won't start up on 1st try with push button start. The starter cranks for a good 10 seconds before giving up. The car starts without a problem on the 2nd or 3rd try. This has happened a few time since initially showing up last week. Seems to fit the description of TIPM problems others are having.

Update from Oct 23, 2014: Car would not start on first attempt and progressively got worse requiring more attempts over several days. Car would start and quickly stall. Replacement of Fuel Pump Relay fixed the issue.

Grand Cherokee Limited 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 57,000 miles

In May, 2014 my Jeep Cherokee wouldn't start when the button was initially pushed. This occurred with increasing frequency until the repair in July, 2014. When I called and explained the problem to a mechanic at a Jeep dealership I was told that there was nothing he could do unless I brought it to him when it wouldn't start. (A little hard to do.) Additionally, the Jeep dealership mechanic said he'd "never heard of this problem with any other Jeep". (A little research online and you will probably find this as difficult to believe as I do.)

I was able to find a private mechanic that was willing to keep the Jeep Cherokee, running diagnostics when it wouldn't start. Because the problem was intermittent, it took several days to pinpoint the problem. The result was that it needed a new TIMP. Total cost of the repair was $1201.96.

I find it comical that I recently received an "Important Safety Recall" about a short in the sun visor vanity lamp wiring. However, a TIMP that can cause the vehicle to fail to start, stall, improper functioning of air bags, or the horn going off randomly, that isn't recalled. Must be too expensive for Jeep/Chrysler to acknowledge.

Grand Cherokee 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 108,000 miles

The problem first occurred at 36000 miles, took to dealership, they couldn't find anything wrong. the majority of the time if you took the push start out of the ignition and used the key you could bypass the security system and start the car. The TIPM module finally went out completely and cost $1700.00 to replace.

Continue to experience issues with 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 6cyl not starting. Press ignition button and starter continues to turn over, but will not start. Need to do this at least 2-3 times, then engine will finally start. Guessing related to fuel pump and the need to burn off excess fuel before start occurs?

Ok........ Now I have another problem with my Jeep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get the F** out of here. It will not start, are you kidding me?????!!!!!! I do a little research and find out it could be the TIPM, causes all sorts of problems. I thought that it was my batteries to the Jeep so I went and replaced both of them and when you go to start it, it acts if it's going to start, then it quits on you. I have to keep doing this at least 3-7times before I can get it to stay on.

I am so over this and they tell me there is no recall when I call Chrysler. The girl on the phone tells me she has never heard of any issue and has never seen any reports on the Jeep not starting. I told her that I was going to turn Chrysler in and she said well I am sorry you feel that way I will make note to your account. But she was not making note to my account about anything else I was saying.

Chrysler are liers and they make vehicles that only last 3years then quit on you. You spend $38,000.000 on a care that turns into a piece of S* 3years later. There is nothing they can do for me she says and parts are on backorder, give me a fing break. So even if I want to spend the $1,200.00 to get it fixed now I can't and I am out of a car once again within a month from my brake booster going out previously and not having any brakes!!!!!

WOW Chrysler, you sure have come a long way..... NOT that you should go out of business, you should be shut down. My life, my child's life, and other driver's lives are at risk because I drive your piece of St vehicle. You won't give me a demo and fix the problem and I can't even buy the part right now to fix it myself.
