Grand Cherokee 4WD 8-cyl

  • 94,000 miles
I have a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited, 5.7L engine. Purchased the vehicle used. At approximately 60,000 miles (2015) the Jeep begin to randomly stall while driving. It always happened within 10 minutes of leaving my house. Fuel levels good, didn't matter if turning left or right. Vehicle stalled, causing steering to lock. Almost in 3 accidents. Only remedy was to put it in park, Jeep would start right back up. This happened in June, August and October. After October stall, I took to the Jeep dealership. The dealership couldn't find anything unusual, and replaced the battery. The trailer taillights were not working and they recommend replace tipm. Things were fine until September 2016. On Sept 2 Jeep stalls turning right, full tank of gas. On Sept 6 - stalls slightly turning into suicide lane. Back to dealership. Dealership has it from 9/7-9-9. can't replicate it, and no errors come up. They do replace recall sun visors. Sept 18 - stalls going straight on road. Again, this is in the morning, and within 10 minutes of leaving my house. Saturday Oct 14. Jeep stalls again around noon time. Hadn't driven it since Friday 1pm, the day before. Full tank of gas. Died while slowing down towards a red light, going straight. Almost rear ended as a result. The dealership cant diagnose one thing that happens randomly. There is a plethora of complaints online regarding the tipm and alternator in this Jeep. My VIN isn't covered by the recalls, but it sounds like a tipm would remedy the situation. This vehicle is unsafe to drive, and Chrysler isn't helping.

When slowing down or coming to a stop, the vehicle's engine will turn off and power steering will not work. In order to start the vehicle again, I need to completely stop, put it in park and start the engine. This has happened on the street and freeway. It does not happen constantly. I have had times where it happens 2 days in a row, once a week, and once a month. I have taken the vehicle to a dealer a few times already, but they have not been able figure out what the issue is. After having the vehicle at the dealer for over 1 month, I spoke to a senior technician that works at the dealer and he said it is a known issue. He told me that vehicles with the 5.7L engine and the push to start button have been having this issue and the issue starts around 30,000 to 50,000 miles and they are not sure what is causing the problem or how to fix it.

Unexpected stall while driving. Happened twice this week Monday 4/25 while turning and 4/28/16 while driving in a 45 mph road (grand river, farmington hills). This touch has been previously serviced by dealer for recall notice and has not helped the issue at all!

About a month after purchasing my used Jeep, I was coming to a stop on a city street and my Jeep powered off completely. After taking the Jeep in to the dealership they fixed the fuel pump relay, which was recalled, and sent me on my way. Since then my Jeep has powered off 5 times (once while entering the highway, twice while exiting the highway, once while making a U-turn under the highway and once on a city street) each time while braking. I've had no power brakes or steering each time.

Grand Cherokee

  • 42,000 miles
On the first of March, my wife and daughter were about to start their day in the usual way. She opened the garage door and used her key fob to remote start our 2012 Jeep gc limited ( around 42K miles) ( factory installed remote starter) she walked away for less than 4 minutes and returned to see smoke coming from front passenger side of Jeep. She called for me, and pushed the aux button to be sure the vehicle was off. I came running and despite my attempts to open the hood and beat back what quickly escalated into open flames I retreated to ensure my family's safety and to be sure the emergency responders were called. Thankfully I was able to remove some potential fuel for the fire by removing our second car from the garage (also a Chrysler) and securing the door between the house and garage. Luck intervened when the flames destroyed the garage door assembly causing the garage door to fall and help remove some oxygen from the fire. Eventually first responders arrived and were able to knock down the fire with foam. Later the firemen pushed the Jeep into the driveway to ensure it was doused. Though the remote start may not be directly responsible for whatever arc sparked the fire, it's my belief that its use contributed directly to the conditions that conflagrated the situation. If the wiring harness is otherwise suspect I would not be surprised considering recent revelations on related models. The vehicle was just removed from the site today 3/9/2016 to copart facility, by insurance company for further investigation into the source of the fire.

Vehicle stalls when applying brakes while decelerating. All power is lost and very difficult to steer or brake. The vehicle will restart when put back into park after drifting to a stop. This is a random problem that occurs 1-2 times every couple of weeks on average. The problem has been reported to Jeep and has been at the dealer several times but they cannot reproduce the problem and there are no engine codes being generated. This is a very dangerous hazard and I have simply been lucky I have not been in a serious accident yet as a result.

In the last 2 days, my 2012 Grand Cherokee has shut off while driving twice. On 10/29/2015 exiting the highway with my 2 year old daughter. The second time was the following day 10/30/2015 with my wife driving by herself. I have had the vehicle for about 30 days. I purchased it from the dealership. The vehicle shut off. There were no warning lights. The radio and lights all still worked. I had to coast to the side with no brakes, no power steering. Once stopped I could put it in park and start it again without issue.

Grand Cherokee

  • 76,500 miles
Vehicle engine shut off during right turn in busy intersection without any warnings. Unable to turn or control vehicle. Also the brake on lights come on in the consul during normal operation. Based on other Jeep model recalls, I believe the problem may be related to the tipm-7 module. The vehicle is a Grand Cherokee overlander 4WD. Vehicle was able to be restarted and has not had another failure, however, this is an unsafe driving situation when the vehicle's engine dies while in motion in any road condition. Maybe related to recalls P54.
