The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle made a squealing and whining noise and there was a burning odor underneath the hood. While driving approximately 35 mph, the ABS, power steering, and brake warning indicators illuminated. Also, the windshield wipers and other components began to malfunction. The contact parked and turned off the vehicle, but it failed to restart. The contact replaced the battery, which caused the vehicle to operate appropriately for a short period of time before the warning indicators illuminated again. The contact checked under the hood and noticed smoke coming from the alternator. The contact stated the alternator and battery failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact called cary autopark Chrysler Jeep (400 auto park blvd, cary, North Carolina 27511, 888-923-9538) and was informed that the alternator and brakes failed. The dealer would not assist because the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 47,800.

68105583af - this is a 2014 specific part which appears to be a problem on many 'pentastar V6' engines from Chrysler. Multiple vehicle models - same engine - same cooler. This housing is made of plastic and exposed to heat while directly on top of the engine- the plastic and its angle relative to the engine lends itself to the lack of durability of the component. Since the cartridge oil filter sits at an angle, pressure is applied at the shoulder causing cracks around the housing during tightening at oil changes. The plastic needs to be made thicker or made out of some different and more durable material. Further, the consumer needs to be notified that this is a real issue and can appear to be coming from the transmission area when in fact it is not. Definitely not safe that an unwitting driver can find themselves out of oil possibly in the middle of nowhere. I am willing to submit photos once I am able to replace this.

My Jeep as the T36 alternator recall. My vehicle recently was affected by this recall and it's extremely dangerous. My enter vehicle powered off and that left me with no power steering or much control of the vehicle while traveling down the road.. when I was able to get to a safe location I found my alternator smoking heavy and my car was completely dead. I took the Jeep to the dealership and the only current fix is to replace the alternator with the same faulty design that failed in the first place. This is extremely dangerous if this would have failed at a higher rate of speed or in any daily driving situation. I cannot believe Chrysler is getting away with this.

I was driving down the street at about 35 mph when the battery icon flashed on. The air conditioner and the radio cutoff following the display of the battery icon. A few seconds later the power steering went out along with a loss of power. A message displayed on the dashboard telling me to pull over immediately along with a service trans brake message and a few others that I can't recall. I tried to get to a safe location but the vehicle shifted into park and completely turned off when I was going less than 5 mph. Causing the vehicle to be stranded in the middle of the road with traffic trying to get by. I slowed down because there were vehicles in front of me making turns. This is the third time this has happened. Towed vehicle to dealership and they said the alternator burned up. The battery is damaged as well. This sounds similar to the two recalls named "alternator may fail resulting in engine stall". notified the dealership and Jeep customer care about this and they informed me that they can fix this recall because my VIN is not part of the recall. Vehicle is out of warranty so they say the repairs will come out of my pocket. After the first time this happened about a year ago I refuse to drive the vehicle on the highway because of the sudden shutoff and loss of steering. I feel this could cause an accident and I refuse to take that risk.

Engine failed. The engine (5.7L hemi) failed in middle of six lane road. Fortunately not much traffic around vehicle when engine failed. If this happened on interstate it could have a substantial safety risk. Mechanic reported the engine lost a rod and damaged the block. Since vehicle under warranty, the engine was replaced. Only 47000 miles on engine.

I have taken my Jeep to the dealership 4 times already. I have only owned it for 3 months. About a month of that I haven't driven it. Because its been in the shop for so long. It has a problem where it shifts really hard from 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th. It moves the car forward then jerks it back really hard, like you're getting hit from behind. Its scary especially when there are small children in the car. I had thought I had bought a reliable car but it seems that 30K has gone to waste and my hoopty was more reliable. The engine also shakes and sometimes it's stuck in third gear! its embarrassing and scary to pull out in flowing traffic. A check engine light has came on before but I have still not "met" the requirements for a new transmission. They replaced the valve body but it only drove smooth for a few days then went back to jerk the entire car again.

  • 60,000 miles
I currently own a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and have had a significant number of issues with the vehicle with zero help from the manufacturer that include items regarding my lights shutting of during night driving, my engine shutting down 3 times while pulling onto a major highway as well as my brakes malfunctioning while driving on a major interstate. I had had other issues but as the manufacturer has been uncooperative and I am stuck with an unsafe vehicle with a child on the way I would like to make sure I file a complaint in as many places as I can before I simply look to get rid of this vehicle. All issues occured while the vehicle was in motion and all have occurred while on the highway during the first year of ownership but as the service center never documented my items properly I was stuck with a lemon as I put 50K miles on in the first year due to my commute to my employer from milford, nh to burlington, MA before moving back to MA where I purchased the vehicle. The most recent issue was my brake booster which leaks water into it and freezes during cold weather and my vehicle has been sitting around since Feb as the dealership will not cover it as they claim to have already replaced the recalled item so I am in the middle of a dispute over that now as well. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Alternator seized on the car after only 33,000 approx. The vehicle is just outside of the 36 month warranty. Jeep will not fix and says it does not fall under recall P60/ NHTSA 14 -634 even though the issues described in the recall are exactly what happened to my vehicle. I called the Jeep dealership and fca and neither are willing to work with me or do anything to resolve the problem. I'm told per my VIN number that my vehicle does not have the faulty alternator yet it has the exact problems of the recalled one from the same year. Issue description- I was driving from nashville tn to naperville il and approximately 3 hours from naperville I stopped for gas and a break and upon starting the car the battery light came on. I continued to drive to naperville il and upon exiting the highway the car started losing power. It sounded like a vacuum cleaner and not like a normal engine. I keep driving and pulled into a parking lot. As I pulled in I lost all electrical components, including the brakes. The car would not start. Upon taking it to my mechanic, then to a Jeep dealership it was determined the alternator seized and damaged the battery and belt. They refuse to correct it and I'm now paying $680 for repairs.

"takata recall" driving to work my car made a loud whistling noise and the battery light came out. I let it sit during work and after work I started it up. I then hopped in and while driving I noticed a burning smell coming into the truck and it was smoking from the hood at a stop light. I proceeded home and the smoke was now inside the car. My baby cousin was in the car and he began coughing, that's when I looked over and noticed it was very smoky in the car. I kept driving home (the street way) rolled the window down slightly for ventilation and noticed that my parking sense light came on. At the next light, my abn light came on along with the check engine light, and several other lights. That began to scare me and I knew it wasn't just my battery. The next time I took my foot off of the brake the smoke from the hood increased as well as in the car. The windshield wipers began going crazy, and I could tell that the car wasn't letting me use the gas anymore and the wheel began to lock up. This really made me nervous because it was extremely hard to turn it. At this point im panicking and causing traffic. Pulling into a safe location, the wheel was completely locked at this point and even pushing the brake was hard. After coming to a complete stop the car wouldn't let me put it in park, then the vehicle just shut off. The smoking continued for a few minutes but I jumped out as soon as it came to a stop. Luckily I took another route home or else I would have been on the highway when this happened. I then called aaa and waited outside to get the truck towed. It took them 25 minutes to come after a 5 minute phone call requesting their services. I got my belongings out of the truck and it still smelled like burnt smoke even after waiting with the window cracked. I don't have pictures, I have videos.
