- the contact received recall 06V288000 for the 2002 Jeep Liberty concerning lower ball joints. The contact complained about the effect that the ball joint had on the tires. The contact stated that no matter what speed she was driving at, but usually at about 15 mph she felt and heard the suspension in the car shifting whenever she hit a bump. The contacts complaint was that after one and a half years the tires were completely bald. The contact stated that this was directly related to the safety recalls on the ball joints. Also, the contact stated that on 11/2005 she lost control of the vehicle after making a turn. After taking the vehicle for service, the contact learned from the dealer that all of the steering fluid leaked out, and the power steering belt split in half. The contact would like to have the tires replaced under the recall as well. Updated 2/7/2007 - the consumer's vehicle experience extended crank time to start. The dealer replaced eh fuel pump and fuel pump reservoir. The lap belt in the rear seat became twisted. When the vehicle was put into reverse the consumer hear a noise. The dealer made repairs to the transmission. The lighter was inoperative.

The contact was concerned about the safety risk involved as stated in the recall. Water may enter and cause ball joint separation. The contact could lose steering control, which may result in a crash. Daimler Chrysler advised him to make an appointment. Also, the contact was concerned about driving it in the rain with the safety risk involved, per the recall. Thanks god there was no crash or damage yet. I've found out that it is recommended to fulfill safety recall for my Jeep Liberty. I called moscow dealer "musa-motors" (www.musa-motors.ru) and they say that "they do not do recalls on holidays" they only do the work, which will cost me money. It is not good because F23 recall - is lower ball joints replacement that means safety. And if something happens to me or my family you'll be in charge of. That's why, I'm asking to stop musa-motor's dealing license as a Jeep dealer.

The contact stated that she was driving under dry weather conditions at 30 mph when noticed that the vehicle became hard to steer and began to shake. She then pulled over and turned the vehicle's power off. When she subsequently tried to restart the vehicle the engine seized. The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer, and they told her that she needed a new engine. The contact explained that she needed the recall work done, but they would not do recall repairs because of the engine failure. The contact believed that the ball joint failure caused the engine failure.

I called the dealership don white's timonium Jeep dealer, and was advised that the dealership receives only 3 sets from Jeep per week and I would therefore be waiting for approximately 6 months for the replacement. I felt this was not timely. I called the daimler Chrysler question line and was told the same info. I do not think any recall for safety issues should wait for months to repair. Surely ball joints can be acquired form another source?

- the contact called regarding recall letter 06V288000 that he received on 09/27/06. The contact stated that last year on 11/26/05 he had a crash while driving the vehicle in the evening. It was on a clear night and the road conditions were good. He stated that he lost control of vehicle, the steering became very stiff, and the vehicle started shaking and vibrating while driving at 45 mph. The contact stated that he couldn't get control of the vehicle and hit a traffic light. The air bag didn't deploy, but the seat belt did restrain him. The contact said that in both the police report and the insurance report stated that the ball joints failed. The contact was admitted for internal bleeding. The vehicle sustained a great deal of damage, and the contact was obliged to pay the state of Maryland for the replacement of the traffic light $1,075.26. The contact was interested in some type of reimbursement. The contact stated that he wrote to Chrysler last year informing them of the vehicle's malfuction, but still had no response from them.

1/24/04 - brought Jeep Liberty in for recall on lower ball joint - "ball joints replaced" per Jeep dealership. 3/25/2006 - while pulling out of parking spot, the left front tire broke off of the axle due to corrosion of the upper ball joint. Breaking top of tire from axle. 9/27/2006 - received a new recall notice for the lower ball joint from the dealership. Dealership claimed that lower ball joint was on back order and unavailable. Dealer told me to call back in 90 days. Called other dealership and scheduled recall repair. 10/14/2006 - took day off of work, brought car in to second dealership for recall. I was told that they did not have the ball bearings and was told that they could put me on a waiting list for the ball bearings. 12/25/2006 - wife pulled out of parking space. Left front tire popped out, appears that recalled lower ball bearing broke. Separating bottom of tire from axle. Car is currently at stadium automall dealership, rutherford NJ, where car was originally purchased, waiting to be repaired. Have had problems at this dealership in the past. Have had "oil changes, tune ups, etc" to later find that the dealership never replaced the lube express oil filter that was dated and installed previously.

TL *- the contact received a recall letter (F23) for lower ball joints. The Jeep Liberty, in question, crashed and the contact believed the recalled part was the reason. While driving approximately 50-55 mph the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree. The road conditions were dry but cold. The driver was injured due to airbag deployment. The contact would like it noted the previous owner kept vehicle in garage. He believes that the part became frozen, as this is one of the possibilities described in recall letter. Updated 03/19/07.
