Rear brake axle seals have failed 3 times which soaked the brake pads each time. Dealer replaced seals and pads. Now the vehicle is shaking and pulsating especially in the steering wheel when braking from 60-40 mph. Please also note that the transmission failed and was replaced at 25,000 mi.

This is a safety issue because we purchased this vehicle to tow a small boat. Fortunately, we were not towing the boat at the time of the incident, otherwise we would certainly have lost control of the vehicle. My 2002 Jeep Liberty is well within its original bumper-to-bumper warranty period. Suddenly it slipped out of gear, lost power, and the "check engine" light came on. It still runs in 1st, 2nd, and reverse gears, but slips out at every stop light and has to re-engage. The dealership said they won't honor the warranty because they claim the transmission was drained before I drove in to the dealership - but that's exactly the symptom that needs to be fixed!! they admit the vehicle couldn't go more than a couple of miles with fluid that low, but the problem occurred during a highway trip and no one could have drained the fluid while I was driving. There are no leaks or drips under the vehicle and there was no warning of any kind. Where did the fluid go? our Liberty was one of the first off the assembly line. Other Liberty owners will probably experience this problem around 32000 miles. Please warn them before someone gets hurt.

Purchased 4/02 and by 7/02 with approx. 6,000K experienced hard downshifting when stopping as well as between gears. Dealer service "removed burrs from driveshaft". returned for service 8/02 with same problem. Again "removed burrs from driveshaft". on 3rd visit in 9/02 I was told they couldn't repair anything and that" the vehicle had a programmable transmission and it's memory was likely responding to a previous similar driving session"...hence the gear slamming! returned 4th time 2 weeks later and this time was told there were no recalls on the complaint and the dealer would file a complaint on my behalf to daimler/Chrysler and I'd be contacted when they heard something. I have not heard from anyone even after sending my own complaint letter to D/C in 11/02. Have also experienced many incidents of rear tires slipping and fishtailing in various road/weather conditions as well as constant right pull and have to fight steering wheel to drive straight.

Vehicles automatic transmission failed and had to be replaced, then replacement transmission had a leaky factory seal and again had to be fixed. Vehicle pulls to right as all other Liberty do and now when the brake is applied, the right front marker light comes on. Dealership said it was uhauls fault uhaul says it is Chrysler fault. Vehicle is a total dissappointment!!
