- the contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Jeep Liberty. The contact received recall O6V288000 for the lower ball joints. The current mileage was 20,000. The dealer/mechanic replaced the steering sensor, as well as the front lower ball joints. Within a half mile after leaving the dealership the vehicle would not turn left, and she heard a grinding noise. The traction control sensor came on. The vehicle was returned to the dealer\manufacturer and the steering sensor was changed again along with the rear brake sensor. The vehicle continued to have steering problems. The contact had taken the vehicle back to the dealer/manufacturer.

I received a letter from Jeep about a safety recall for the lower ball joint, I call my dealer and they stated that it would be 3-4 months before the part came in. 3-4 months I then called daimler Chrysler they said I could wait or call other dealers to see how long their wait is. It was the same story with them. On the recall it stated in bold letters "this can cause the ball joint to corrode and separate. Ball joint separation can result in a loss of steering control and could cause a crash without prior warning. My complaint is I have to wait 3-4 months to fix this problem while this places me and my family at risk.

(1) front right side of Jeep Liberty dropped down on tire (2) tire was flat and Jeep ran off road (3) investigator only looked for open pot-hole or construction and did not look for any defective situation. Ball joint defect was reported to public over 5 months later. I kept the tire which has unusual slicing through the inside edge with a few penetrations within that area and all perfectly lined up with each other. I took pictures of the tire assembly area in case there would be any indication of faulty parts. Investigator only sited tire hit something and blew out as told to me by the state farm claim agent. Follow-up of this case was rejected by same claim agent because ball joint is not available to inspect. My complaint to them saying they are not reviewing the evidence I did show them including pictures from the scene which I still think show if their was a failure of this nature or not. They have another claims agent looking into it now. Until they follow this up I consider this accident to be falsely reported to your Agency.

: the contact stated there were no problems with the vehicle. There was a NHTSA recall #06V288000 on the vehicle regarding the suspension: Front: Control arm: Lower ball joint. The parts needed to repair the vehicle were not available at the local dealership. The manufacturer confirmed the parts were not available. The contact had tried to schedule an appointment, but the dealer refused to schedule a date until the replacement parts were available, and recommended the contact to call every day to check for updates on the parts. The contact expressed concern that it was a major risk to safety if the ball joints failed.

My Liberty has 3 recalls, 2 having do with big safety issues- fire and tires detaching. I first called planet Dodge (miami, fl) for service appt.; gave VIN and advised of recalls- surprise! when I arrived for my appointment; they said the parts were on back order! today I called tamiami Jeep to make an appointment and was told 1) it's very dangerous as tires may detach 2) they have some parts, but not some bolt, if that is required! question- if these are mandatory recalls and on such potentially safety compromising parts- how can the parts be on back order for 3 months!! (this will be my first visit to tamiami for service appt-but was already advised not all parts available- what's the use of making a appointment if they is a nationwide of a part to repair a recall" what happens if my tires detach or my car has "underbody fire" as per my most recent notice" I would appreciate a reply via email and I would like somebody to investigate how service departments can run out of parts that have mandatory recalls. I was not told at planet Dodge how serious this was and have been driving around waiting for the parts to arrive.(lower ball joint).
