2007 Jeep Liberty - every time I fill up with gas once the tank is full, the pump will auto shut-off and the Jeep will backflow 2-3 cups of gas back out. This has got to be a safety issue.

Fuel tank overflows when filling at pump. Expels about one quart of fuel.

I own a 2007 Jeep Liberty and have a consistent problem with gas pumps not shutting off at any of the stations where I have purchased gas. This issue started a few months ago and at first I just assumed it was related to a particular pump, but have found that it overflows no matter where I purchase gas. I believe that this is a serious danger and certainly an environmental issue especially when such efforts are made to even control vapor emissions on modern vehicles. I have contacted Chrysler but they said that there is nothing they can do about it. I have done some research online and found this to be a very common problem with Jeep. I'm concerned about the environmental issue, but am more anxious about the safety issue this causes. It's bad enough to ruin clothing, but I hate to think about other worse scenarios such as a fire or having gas sprayed in someone's face. I believe that it should be covered as part of an emissions and customer safety related service campaign, but Chrysler disagrees with me.

2007 Jeep Liberty gas began overflowing after gas tank fill up and pump auto shut off. The gas flies out. It happens every time now. It doesn't matter how far the nozzle is in or which gas station.
