Liberty 4WD 6-cyl

  • 40,000 miles
Jeep Liberty 2008 gas gushing out every time after filling tank - according to dealer, roll-over valve is faulty inside gas tank so entire gas tank must be replaced (about $800+). this valve ensures that gas will not leak into vehicle in the event of a roll-over accident; also ensures gas won't shoot out of the gas tank after filling with fuel. Gas erupts out of tank and back onto the face, body and feet of the consumer as well as all down the side of vehicle and onto the ground near gas pumps. Very unsafe hazard. Not a maintenance problem but rather a defective part inside the gas tank. Should not be the consumer's responsibility to replace. Vehicle is only 2 1/2 years old with 40,000 miles logged. This occurs each and every time the tank is filled whether or not it is on auto-fill or manually regulated. Tricky work to manually stop gas flow before it gushes out. Lodged complaint with Jeep of America but was told only possible recourse was to pay for repair myself; submit claim to them after the fact, and they may or may not decide to assist me with costs (they won't call it reimbursement) for some or all of my expenses. They claimed no responsibility and complete lack of knowledge about the problem although this concern is posted all over the internet in various forums. Thank you.

Liberty 6-cyl

2008 Jeep Liberty. Consumer states several problems with the vehicle the consumer stated each time he filled the gas tank, gasoline spilled out of the fill opening moments after the nozzle shut off was triggered. The spill occurred in a boiling type manner and the volume of the spill was significant. The consumer also stated, throughout the three years he has owned the vehicle, he had a problem with rain getting inside the vehicle. The point of entry appeared to be at the top of the rear lift gate. The water volume was significant and not only soaked the rear bed, but it also ran to the front of the vehicle and soaked the front passenger carpet. The problem has been fixed twice, with the report that some drains ports were clogged. The last repair involved some additional caulking.

When refueling, vehicle gushes fuel back out at the consumer after pump clicks off. Has done this many times since I bought it last month. It is dangerous and environmentally bad to spew fuel on consumer and on the ground, for fire and health reasons.

When filling up with gas the Jeep spews gas back out forcefully and about 4 cups fly out all over some times the nozzle clicks and some times it does not. I have had this Jeep for over one year and this started happening for over a month now. 2008 Jeep Liberty 4X4. I called the dealer and they said no recall. This is very dangerous as the gas comes out fast and sprays. I don't think I should have to pay for this as it is a hazard and not a maintenance issue.

Liberty 4WD

  • 20,000 miles
Upon removal of fuel nozzle from the tank, after filling the tank, about two cups of fuel burp out of the tank onto the side of the vehicle and ground. Happens at all stations, only way to avoid it is to not fill the tank or let the fuel nozzle sit for a minute or two before removal. I have returned vehicle to dealer with this complaint three times with no repair action taken by the dealer.

I just returned from alexander Chrysler Jeep in franklin, tn 615-794-5000. They tried to blame a vacuum hose for letting gasoline fumes in the cabin of the 2008 Jeep Liberty to avoid a warranty fix. This is where the my health and safety complaint comes in. My wife has been complaining about being sick with headaches and stomach pain for months. Originally we took the Jeep in for "gas cap" warning on the odometer and engine light. Nothing was found. Today I took the Jeep in an alexander found a clearly abraded or deteriorated vacuum hose that they said could allow the gas fumes into the cabin. My wife has been breathing this for months and if this is a common problem this exposes occupants to toxic fumes and risks an explosion hazard in the engine compartment. This needs to be investigated asap. If you can contact me asap I can let you see this hose as it sits.
