When it is hot out 85-100F, my transmission overheating light goes on while driving at expressway/interstate highway speeds. The engine temperatures are within normal limits. It occurs without the A/C on. When this situation happens, my vehicle will no longer accelerate and will become slower and slower until I'm going >20mph. This is hazardous on high speed limit congested roadways. This has happened to my 2015 Jeep Patriot freedom drive 2 cvt at least 5 times during hot spring days or the summer. I have had to park on a shoulder of an expressway for 20-30 minutes for it to cool down so I could safely reenter the highway. I have heard of two other people with this issue and I do not know many people who have this model. All vehicles should be capable of getting to highway speed on an on ramp and merge in. I do not know if it is a cooling issue, a thermostat malfunction, or something else. I own the latitude, trail rated model, 2015. I bought it with only 2 miles on the odometer and I do regular fully synthetic oil changes. When I know the issue is starting I hear a distinctive winding sound when accelerating. Almost like the sound a drill or remote control car makes (like it's stuck in 1 gear, even though my car is a cvt I usually feel a "shift" when accelerating or passing. When this occurs, it sounds like something is restricting the "gears" and causing the winding/whining sound, like if you put a manual transmission into 1st or second and kept accelerating up to highway speeds.

Went to get an oil change and technician found cvt disptick tube on the splash guard. Google search shows lots of people complaining and talking about this. Since the cvt tube does not have any end user serviceable parts it was never touched. Seems to be breaking from poor design/vibration. Dealer will not cover nder bumper to bumper warranty a simple google search shows this is a common problem on these engine/cvt combos https://www.google.com/search?Q=Jeep+Patriot+transmission+dipstic+broken&rlz=1C1chbf_enus723us723&oq=Jeep+Patriot+transmission+dipstic+broken&aqs=chrome..69I57.20303J0J8&sourceid=chrome&ie=utf-8

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Patriot. While the vehicle was parked, it rolled backwards independently. The contact stated that the reverse lights were illuminated. The contact had to jump into the vehicle and depress the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle. The emergency brake had to be applied in order to prevent the vehicle from driving in reverse. Whenever driving over a pothole at approximately 70 mph, the vehicle downshifted from automatic to manual. The contraction control warning light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who advised the contact not to drive the vehicle and that no failure was found. The dealer suggested that the cbt transmission could be failing. The contact notified the manufacturer who advised the contact to do a full inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 30,088.

Had to get transmission replaced at 15000 miles due to a noise and Chrysler not knowing what the issue was. Was running out of tranny fluid 3 times in one month. With no leak found. Now I am hearing that noise again. Steering is very sensitive and seems to be getting worse, especially going around a left hand corner on the highway. Motor mount was loose at 16000 miles, was fixed, but why was it loose? steering wheel shakes badly when going over 65 mph on freeway. E brake does not work properly. If it is pulled and I am on a hill and it is in neutral or the clutch is pressed in it will roll... (dealership tells me it works and also, they cannot adjust it anymore) why?.. my windshield wpiers are stalling, more and more often they wont turn on until I turn them on as fast as they will go and then turn them down after that. I have had many problems with this vehicle and trying to get Chrysler to buy back because it is obviously not reliable or safe, but my case maanger and her supervisor are ridiculously hard to get a hold of and dont realize the importance of this.. the dealership I bought the car from has treated me terribly and hasn't given me good service in the slightest. One of the salesman cussed at me. And they won't fix my issues with the car, and the owner of the dealership told me "to just total it" to get rid of it, instead of helping me and making it right. I am very stressed about this because it has been going on for 6 months now... and I need a reliable car.
