Over the past month the throttle body control light, check engine light, and traction control light has come on when I go to accelerate. Just like others have reported, it comes on when I'm driving on the highway & just dies, you can't steer the car or anything. Or you go to accelerate and it dies & you almost get rear-ended. I cannot believe how many reports are on here similar to mine and there has been no recall although it looks like there was one for the 2016 Patriot. What will it take, someone dying? this is a huge safety issue when your car will just die while driving 65-70 mph & you can't steer or anything!

While I am driving, the car stops running., the engine cuts off. I have to put the car in park or neutral to restart the engine. Sometimes it will start up sometimes I have to wait on it to starts. Today it stopped in the middle of the street and it did not start back up..the car had to be pushed out the street. My Jeep will stop on the expressway while driving up to speed, it will stop on rural streets and while turning left or right it will shut down in the middle of the turn..this is extremely dangerous because it only shuts down when the car is in motion. This has been happening for 3 months.

This vehicle intermittently stalls. The vehicle stalled in multiple different conditions including slow driving and at highway speeds and on level or inclines/declines. The vehicle would be functioning properly and then completely stall and shut off which was very dangerous at highway speeds because there was a loss of power brakes and steering. There is a recall for this make and model for the year 2016 (safety recall S89 / NHTSA 16V-907 crankshaft camshaft sensor wire harness). This is the exact issue that is wrong with our vehicle, but it is a 2015 model year. The dealership did not fix the issue on our first repair visit and so we were put at safety risk again when the vehicle stalled until bringing it in a second time. This is a very dangerous situation and Jeep needs to address this issue.

As of 12/18/2018, my car has begun to die as I push on the accelerator after being at a complete stop at a stop light or stop sign, it even died out of no where, my husband was driving back home and thankfully there were no other cars behind him as he was passing the intersection when the car jerked and decided to turn of completely. He put it on park and started up like normal but no check engine light came on or anything. Ever since I got this car in February of 2016, take note that my Jeep only has 65000 miles and I have never had any problems with it until now. It is terrifying because each time it has happened, cars behind me were very close to rear ending my car. This is a big and scary issue for me because I have read on numerous websites that their Jeep Patriots have died on the highway... I have a 3 month old that I take back and forth to a baby sitter every weekday, and that is a huge safety issue for my daughter and for people driving around me as well. I have read on a numerous amounts of websites where other Jeep Patriot owners are having the exact same issue. I keep my oil changes up to date and I just changed my spark plugs. So I have no clue what the problem might be I have not taken it to have it checked because of what I have read I see that others have not had luck with taken it to a shop I would hate for this issue to cause somebody to rear end me on the streets or on the highway. Either being on the streets or the highway, it could cause serious damage and injury to me, my 3 month old daughter and to the people around me.hopefully they have a recall soon!

70K miles it started stalling while I was driving, mainly in city going 25-45mph. The 1st time I had have it jumpstarted. 2nd and 3rd time I was not able to jumpstart. Took it to the dealership, they said the code for the ABS module came up so they replaced it. The repair cost $550 and I drove it 3 days and the car died again while going through a stoplight, they traction control light came on. Had to have it towed. They said the connection wire was bad to the new ABS module they replaced so they replaced the connector. I drove it a week, the rpms dropped out and engine stalled while going 70mph. Same thing happen a week later while acclerating on an on ramp. Now its 3 days after the last time it died and it has stalled on me 3 times in one day, and I have to wait 2-3 mins with the engine shut off then I am able to restart it. This car is not reliable, I have no warning of when it will shut off or if I will be stranded and have to have it towed. Its scary going down the highway at 70mph and the engine dies!!!

I am seeing many similar complaints about this vehicle. My 2015 Jeep Patriot used to kick back while I was accelerating which developed into a stall after a couple of months. I took it to a shop and they gave me new spark plugs and cleaned my air intake valves in hopes that it would fix the issue. The car gives no warning or code to describe what is happening. For about a week there were no issues and then it stalled on me twice today and power steering goes out. I was stopped at a red light and accelerated once it turned green but it stalled before I could make it all the way through the intersection. I could barely steer out of the way of other vehicles, have to put my car in park and shut it off. Then I have to sit there for a couple minutes before restarting the car. This is a huge safety issue and I am afraid to drive my car especially during rush hour.

On 11/5/18, my fianc was driving on the freeway, about 65 miles an hour, when the car engine completely shut off. This caused the power steering to stop working. She was barely able to coast off of the freeway, struggling to steer it, without hitting other vehicles on the busy freeway. It sat for four hours, and then it started again. It has shut off while driving at least four times in a week, on city streets and stop lights, and wouldn't start numerous times the car only has about 35,000 miles on it. It was taken to the Jeep dealership in woodbridge va., for a sensor chip replacement on 11/10/18. That evening, after taking it home, it wouldn't start. It will be towed back to the Jeep dealership on 11/12/18. There seems to be numerous complaints about this vehicle shutting off while driving. This is an extreme safety concern, especially on the freeway or with children in the car. I don't understand why this serious problem has not initiated a recall, especially when the mileage on the vehicles people are reporting on are so low, including one with only 11,000 miles. It's obviously a Jeep problem. It should not take a fatality in order to initiate a recall.

While driving I made a right turn and then the "tire light" began to flash and a warning sound was heard then the "traction control light" began to flash and alert sound was heard and then a "red lightning bolt" warning light was flashing on the dashboard and the "engine light" turned on, all lights were lit up and the engine stalled and couldn't get passed 20mph even thought the accelerator was almost to the floor. The vehicle has only less than 32000 miles, and has had its regular maintenance. I've seen several similar complaints on Jeep Patriot forums and seen that the 2014 and 2016 had recalls for this or related issue. When stopping the vehicle idles high and still moves even though the brake is fully pressed, and the temperature rises fast. I was driving at night on a city street so luckily the wasn't much traffic. The lights came on before I lost engine power and I shut off the vehicle and turned it back on and they went away but that didn't happen the second time it occurred, the lights stayed on and that's when I also lost engine power and the vehicle would stall. Moves fine in reverse but because the vehicle is idling really high it takes off in reverse by itself without using the accelerator.

When driving down the road the vehicle will stall. The only indication I have that it has stalled or is going to stall is the RPM's drop to zero. I have taken it into the dealership and they ran diagnostics but can find nothing wrong. This has been happening almost everyday since the end of July beginning of August. It happens 2 or 3 times a day then nothing for a couple days and then starts up again. Thankfully this has not happened when I'm driving 65mph because I have no warning and the vehicle just stops, I can barely get pulled over to the side of the road.

Since June 2018 I've experienced on going issues with the engine/transmission. While driving the entire front end starts to shake, all the lights on the dashboard come on and then the car stalls. I loose the ability to accelerate and steer during this time. First time this happened I was in Delaware on the highway, they replaced the throttle body. Since then the car skips during deceleration mostly when the gears shift in traffic, going on rotaries or attempting to come off /on ramp.. went to my usual mechanics ran codes ended up replacing sensor in the engine. The car again starts to skip and has ongoing issues accelerating. This is incredibly dangerous I've almost been in a couple accidents from when it decides it's time to accelerate, random engine shut off and inability to accelerate when it matters. I called Jeep apparently they are having lots of issues related to this.

April 2017, while driving on the freeway Jeep started to shake. Etc and engine light were lit up, car would not accelerate. Pulled over at nearest exit. Shut off car and tried to restart, car would not start. Dealership determined that throttle body needed to be replaced. August 2018, while waiting at stop light I started to make a right turn. Car was shaking and did not want to accelerate. Traction control and engine light turned on. Had to shut off vehicle and restart in the middle of a city street. Car restarted, the next day only engine light stayed on. While at stop light and foot on the break the engine shut off. All lights and radio stayed on. Restarted car, driving fine. Took it to dealership, they replaced the throttle body again (and wanted to do so at my expense). While attempting to return my car, it shut off on them. They returned it to me saying it had been fixed. Next day problem persisted and became more frequent. Took back to the dealership, they replaced sensor cam and sensor cra to my expense. Now my breaks are shaking. It's a three year old car. I'm the second owner. It shouldn't be having these types of problems. I'm not spending more money at the dealership. I'm selling the vehicle. I'll be sure to never purchase Jeep or any other Chrysler brands.

Statrting on 23. May, 2018 my vehicle started randomly dying while driving. This is a complete loss of propulsion, the rpms drop to zero and the car completely stops running. The only way to get the vehicle moving again when it does start is to completely stop, place the vehicle in park and start the vehicle again. The vehicle has no preference or indication of when it is going to do this, so far it has died while pulling into traffic, driving down the freeway at 60 miles an hour, turning into a parking stall in a busy mall parking, while climbing hills and while going down hills. This information was given to fca along with the mileage which is roughly 37800 miles. I have been directed to pay out of my own pocket for diagnostics for this vehicle even though you may search Jeep Patriot forums.com off of Chrysler website and you can find a list of similar complaints dating back as far as 2010 when Chrysler recalled nearly half a million vehicles for a very similar issue

While driving on highway and city streets, car has completely shut down without warning or warning lights, no engine, no power steering no electrical anything. This is a death trap and serious bodily harm waiting to happen. Highly dangerous, especially on highway. This has happened at least 8 times and has been into the Jeep dealer 4 times to get fixed, to no avail. It keeps happening and is now back at the dealer. Last time, they replaced ABS module and bled system. Still didn't work. Lots of complaints of this online over many years. Date it happened is first time, but it is now in shop for the 4th time. 2016 Jeep Patriots were recalled for this very problem, but no other year. Why?!!!
