Every time I pump gas it overflows. The flapper in the top of the gas tank isn't working correctly. This is apparently an issue for the majority of 05 and 06 models. Chrysler decided to fix the 07-08 models and do nothing for the 05-06.

Fuel spills out of filler hose almost every time I fill up fuel. The gas spills out all over the ground at the gas station. I complained to chrysller hq and they said, its been noted and my vehicle does not qualify for the recalls that they have on the later model Jeep Wrangler with the same problem.

Each and every time I fill the vehicle up with gasoline, the fuel spills out of the gas tank all over the vehicle. It has ruined my fender flare not to mention the gasoline on the ground as a result of the faulty gas tank. This happens every single time I fill up the vehicle (regardless of the gas station). The only way to stop this is to handle it is in a manual process (not using the pump handle switch to keep pump on), however that still does not stop the fuel from filling out the tank. This has ruined some of my clothes and as mentioned, is creating plenty of pollution every spill. This is a common problem with Wrangler as it is commonly reported in online forums. I am asking for Chrysler's assistance in getting this issue addressed and the fuel tank replaced.

Each time I fill up my gas tank with fuel, the fuel overflows out of the tank. As I am not the original owner of the vehicle, I am filing this complaint only after learning from many other Jeep owners they also experience this issue. It seems very dangerous for this amount of fuel to be spilled (and spewed) from the gas tank, the only way to prevent it is to monitor the gallons going in and stop it manually which, unfortunately, is not always a successful approach. When refilling gas the auto shutoff doesn't work correctly and fuel spills out onto vehicle and ground as it doesn't shut off soon enough. Gas can splash on person holding nozzle or near vehicle. Fire and pollution risk.

When refueling my Jeep, fuel was expelled from the filer neck at the same time the fuel pump cut off automatically. I was covered in gasoline this time after the fuel was expelled from the tank. This has happened on every refill starting about 6 months ago but the first time I have been doused with fuel. The Jeep dealer indicated that a recall had been initiated on hundreds of Wrangler but not the 2005 Jeep Wrangler for the same problem. This is an incredibly dangerous situation and the consumer needs your help!! many online articles from organizations like edmunds and consumer reports has indicated this is a serious problem and the problem needs to be identified by your organization and Chrysler needs to recall the vehicles.

Every time I go to fill up my gas tank- once the fuel pump reaches the full amount the fuel starts coming out of the tank spilling all over the side of my Wrangler and sometimes on my shoes. Even when I slow pump the gas into the tank, once it reaches a certain point (which I can never tell because most vehicles make the gas pump click off once full) it almost always automatically purges itself.

About 1 year ago the gas tank started over flowing when I put gas in. I initially thought it was a pump problem but it got worse over time. When I fill the tank it over flows about a cup of gas. When I contacted the dealer they knew about the problem and said it happens on some Jeep. The problem is the roll over valve sticks open. The only fix is to replace the complete gas tank - $1,250. Neither the dealer nor Chrysler would take responsibility for fixing the problem although Chrysler acknowledged it was a design defect not a manufacturing defect. If there are 1 million Jeep on the road with this problem, their drivers fill up once a week, and spill a cup each that amounts to 60 thousand gallons of gas dumped into the environment a week. Seems like Chrysler should be more concerned about the problem and either you or the epa should encourage them to take ownership.

Fuel spill occurs during fill ups. Fuel will spill onto the ground as well as spew outward from the vehicle. Fuel has gotten onto my clothing and skin on two occasions.

When I fill up my tank at the gas station, the auto fill won't click off until the gas tank is overfilled, and sprays out, then runs down the side of my Jeep. It doesn't matter if I use their auto fill notches and walk away or hold it by hand, the gas wont click off until the tank has overflowed. It spills between a liter and a pint each time.

I just bought this Jeep 2 weeks ago, every time I go to fill up with gas, no matter which gas station I am at the gas always comes spewing out. I have tried many things, even positioning the gas handle at different angles ect. I have done a lot of research and it seems this is a faulty fuel tank/evap. That needs to be replaced to fix this. I have talked to dealer ships saying that the tank needs to be replaced. In my opinion this should be a recall. My Jeep only has 37000 miles on it, and I already have to replace the fuel tank!? I think Jeep/Chrysler needs to foot the bill on this one...

Fuel system does not respond to a shut-off mechanism. Every time we fill up the gas on our 2005 Wrangler unlimited, gas will come back out and spill down the side of the Jeep and sometimes spray surrounding area. So if you are standing anywhere near it, most likely you will have gas all over yourself. We are the second owners of the 2005 Wrangler that only had 5500 miles on it when we bought the Jeep and now have about 7500 miles and have seen this issue every time we fill the gas tank. Dealership wants $1400 to replace plus labor.

I had just bought an unlimited 2005 Jeep Wrangler- the first time I stopped to get gas I found out very quickly that there is an overflow problem with these models. Everyone who is a Jeep owner knows about it and says there are some fixes, but they are lengthy. Everyone who isn't wonders why it hasn't been recalled and fixed. This is an ongoing problem that could pose a large hazard at gas stations.

The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Wrangler 4X4. The contact stated that after filling the fuel tank to capacity, gasoline would spill from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where they advised him that the fuel tank was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000. The current mileage was approximately 54,000. The VIN was unavailable.
