I recently purchased a 2006 Jeep Wrangler with 37,000 miles. When filling the gas tank on my Jeep the fuel will not stop flow when the tank is full. Instead gas spews out of the filler every time I refuel, resulting in a significant loss of fuel. This happens every time I refuel and occurs at different gas stations. After reading multiple complaints regarding the same issue on the internet suggesting that it is a problem with the Jeep itself, I wanted to report this event.

My 2006 Jeep Wrangler spits gasoline out at me when filling the vehicle! it always happens when nearing full, no matter what I do to try to avoid it from happening. Sometimes it spits forcefully, hard enough to get gasoline on me, sometimes it's just a minor spit that just dribbles down the vehicle. Either way, it occurs every time I attempt to fill the tank to full. I have resorted to only putting 10 gallons of gasoline in at a time, and only if the fuel gauge reads below 1/4, to ensure I don't have to experience the gasoline spit-back. No parts have been replaced or repaired yet.

I have purchased a used 2006 Jeep Wrangler from a local dealership around two years ago, and within the past year I have noticed gas gushes out of my fuel tank every time I get fuel. At first I thought it was the gas attendant, as it is illegal in NJ to pump your own fuel, however this is now occurring everytime. I am worried my paint will become ruined or my car might catch on fire if it is too hot. I also do not have the means to pump my own gas and I don't need this problem to cause more issues down the road since the spilled gas has already discolored my stock fender flare. I know I am not the only one with this problem and it needs to be looked into because this is a safety issue, and once the gas spills over making everything on the inside reek of fumes.

When refueling my 2006 Wrangler Jeep gas surges out of the tank prior to the pump shutting off. I have not measured the amount spilled but it is enough to create approximately a 24-36" diameter wet spot on the ground. This happens every time I fill my vehicle no matter which filling station I use. This seems like a significant safety and environmental hazard considering it splashes on my arm and clothing if I am holding onto the pump handle or standing within arms reach of the nozzle and the spilled fuel is becoming a ground or water contaminate one way or another as it is soaked up or washes away.

When fueling the the tank burps fuel out the vehicle fill tube after the fill nozzle has shut off. This occurs often. At first occurrence I assumed that the flow into the tank was too fast, and began slow filling to prevent it this initially has some success, as it did not happen every time. The problem has gotten worse, and now it happens every time even when filling slow.

I have a 2006 Jeep Wrangler. Everytime I fuel my vehicle at the pump, fuel will spew out before the pump shuts off. I asked the dealer about this when I first purchased the vehicle and stated that they would not do anything about and blamed it on me basically. I started putting the fuel in slower and it works most of the time but sometimes I still will have fuel spew out before the pump clicks off, no matter how slow I try. Searching online forums, I have found out I am not the only one to have this problem, on the contrary there are many others with this same exact problem, between 97-06 tj Jeep Wrangler models.
