Transmission pops out of 1st gear during take off from a complete stop. This happens 1 in every 5 times. The shifter is fully engaged. Normal weather and driving conditions. No vehicle modifications.

Since I purchased this Jeep, it intermittently will not start--typically in warm weather. We replaced the ground on the battery, purchased new battery, starter, neutral safety switch and all transmission sensors. Still, it will not start in warm weather. We literally have to wait until the outside temperature cools, then the Jeep will start. I researched the issue on-line and found many consumer references to this problem for this vehicle--commonly referred to as "the Jeep flu." Many report either the neutral safety switch or the tipm is the issue. Many references complain that Chrysler is fully aware of the problem--tipms on back order--but they are silent. This Jeep has stranded us many times--which can also cause significant harm for consumers. Chrysler should acknowledge this problem and provide a fix!

My Jeep has jumped out of 1st gear from a start of roll unlimited times causing at times near to fatal crashes because of this. I have contacted Chrysler representatives and dealership service managers numerous times and all will not fix due to powertrain coverage is non-transferable and they claim this is not a Jeep problem. The Jeep jumps out of first gear when starting from a full stop. The stick shift violently jumps back into neutral and occurs unpredictably. It is extremely dangerous when this happens when I'm turning into traffic (risk of being T-boned) or else from dead stops when somebody is behind me (risk of being rear-ended). I have even helt the stickshift in first gear when starting from a dead stop and it has jumped out hurting my wrist.

I was driving on the interstate, enroute home, and my 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited just lost power which I steered it onto the shoulder. No warning lights, nor equipment failure indicator was on my dashboard. My vehicle started smoking heavily underneath the engine compartment. While parked in a mall parking garage, vehicle caught fire forward of the firewall. According to a policeman, a witness saw smoke coming from under the hood 15-20 minutes after the vehicle had been parked. Vehicle was completely destroyed forward of the firewall. Smoke and heat damage to front interior of vehicle including melted carpet near transmission in area of accelerator pedal.

On May 29th of 2014 I was driving my 2008 Jeep Wrangler down a 4 lane city street at about 3000 RPM. I had just taken off from a red light when I heard a loud explosion that resulted in a fire underneath the vehicle. The gas tank exploded and the fire covered the bottom of the entire vehicle. There was damage under the hood on the engine side of the firewall on what appeared to be fuel lines. Luckily there was a quick response by the fire department who quickly extinguished the fire, but my Jeep has been rendered un-drivable. I have contacted both Chrysler and the dealership but not assistance there. The Chrysler investigation team would not even take a look at the fuel lines the marshal determined started the fire. I will never feel safe in this vehicle or any other vehicle produced by Chrysler ever again. Luckily there was no personal injury to me, but only because I had all the doors and top off which enabled a rapid escape. Please take a serious look a these Wrangler and force Chrysler to take action before someone is seriously injured or even killed.

When the ignition key was turned to on, the starter only gave a click. After several attempts it started. The dealer did a diagnostic and found nothing. The problem continued and became more frequent and severe to the point it wouldn't start after numerous attempts. The starter was replaced with no results, problem continued. From online forums on Jeep I found this to be a widespread problem. It was suggested to put the automatic transmission in the neutral position and try. If it starts, the problem is a faulty transmission range sensor. Putting it neutral when this occurs, has started the engine the first try dozens of times for me. I took the Jeep to the dealer, gave them this information which they ignored. They replaced a solenoid cable instead. The problem continued. Returned to the dealer for another diagnostic, they kept the vehicle for 2 days while I rented a vehicle. Nothing was found or fixed in their diagnostic when I picked it up. The problem continues, it did it today twice 6/25/2014, but still starts in neutral for now. The suggested transmission range sensor would be covered in my lifetime powertrain warranty. I believe Jeep knows there is a problem but chooses to ignore it. This seems to effect Wrangler models from 2007- 2012 years. It is so widespread it should be a recall issue. Starting in neutral is not a fix.

The vehicle is a manual transmission. The vehicle randomly keeps popping out of gear and goes on neutral when driving on 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear. When that happens, the vehicle cannot be accelerated and come to almost a complete stop. Obviously this situation poses a serious danger that can result to accidents and possible lose of lives. Despite numerous attempts, Chrysler fails to resolved the problem. Yet, ironically, although many owners of Jeep Wrangler 2007 - 2011 with manual transmission have reported the problem to Chrysler, the have not put any recall for that very alarming defect.

In December, my manual transmission 2008 Jeep Wrangler began jumping out of first gear when accelerating from a stop. The chances of this happening increase with higher rpms, so a quick acceleration or accelerating up a hill make it worse. It's incredibly dangerous as it usually puts me close to a stop as I'm trying to accelerate from a stop sign or when a traffic light turns green. Potential for rear-ending is high.

My 2008 Jeep Wrangler 2-door with the 6-speed manual transmission will sometimes not go into 2nd and 1st gear when downshifting. The transmission also pops out of 2nd and 4th gear. Both of these issues are unsafe because of the loss of power to the wheels. If something were to happen while trying to downshift around a turn or something of that nature, the vehicle would not be able to evade a collision. Also, the shifter clicks and feels "notchy" when shifting into 2nd gear, making it difficult.

Everything is normal and working, you try to start the car and there is a click then nothing. I then move the shifter to neutral and start the car then move shifter back to park. There are no codes being registered if you plug in a diagnostic machine and I've had several competent mechanics check it out to no avail. This is happening.to many other people and isn't an isolated incident, which is why I'm reporting it. It appears to be an electrical issue, a grounding issue to be specific.
