Warning light for airbag system is activating every 30-50 seconds. Contacted my service department, they stated it is a "clock spring" in the steering system. Apparently, there are many claims for this from Jeep Wrangler owners.
- Omaha, NE, USA
Air bag light/chime began illuminating frequently (approximately once every few minutes) throughout the course of every drive, regardless of distance or speed. I took vehicle to dealer for inspection where it was determined the clock spring was defective. Part was replaced under a consumer purchased extended warranty.
- Papillion, NE, USA
Airbag light came on while pulling out of residence. The horn nor the cruise control currently work. After some research online, discovered there are many instances of this exact problem (clockspring). Chrysler acknowledges problems with the clockspring in the right hand drive version of Jeep Wrangler, and the 2007 left hand drive models, but nothing after. After speaking with Chrysler, they told me they simply "don't care, because we've never heard of a single complaint regarding it", which is quite surprising considering all the complaints I was able to find online.
- Phoenix, AZ, USA
The airbag light actuated and upon further research I have found that it is symptomatic with the clock spring in the steering column. I contacted a dealership and Chrysler with no resolution. There is a recall out for the clock spring in 2008-2012 models but it is in a limited lot number. The airbag light is intermittent and only when the steering wheel is rotated.
- Ewa Beach, HI, USA
Airbag warning light comes on constantly and continues to beep while driving. Noticed recall for certain VIN#'s, but not all. Since this seems to be a widespread issue, more vehicles need to be added to this safety recall.
- Laurel, MD, USA
On the 2009 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags.this has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2009 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. This faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2009 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. Daimler Chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying.

Last night I turned my car on...I noticed the airbag light stayed on longer than usual it went of but a couple minutes later it lighted up again for a couple seconds and from then it has been doing it, while driving it I noticed that my cruise control and horn are not working. I read a lot about the issue and I can for sure say its the clock spring, this makes a lot of sense when I bought the car in 2009 I received the car with a broken clock spring I had to go back the next day so they could replace it.
- San Ysidro, CA, USA
My air bag light came on and would not go out. I brought the vehicle to my local auto service. After testing it was found that the clock spring needed to be replaced. This is a normal left hand drive Jeep Wrangler 2009. I understand that this was a problem in previous years and was on recall during those years. Driving the vehicle with the light on is a safety problem that needs to be yet resolved by Jeep. I am looking to hae my money refunded for the correction of this safety problem. I have the part and numbers are on the part. How do I backtrack thses numbers. This part may have been a 2008 part used in the following years production.

Airbag warning light comes on and continues to beep while driving.
- Moab, UT, USA
About three or four days prior to the incident, I noticed upon starting the vehicle(2009 Jeep Wrangler rubicon - lhd), that the airbag indicator light on the dashboard was lit, indicating that the airbag was not functioning. I had noticed previously that the airbag light would come on, and then go away, so I thought nothing of it. However, on the date of the incident, as I drove the vehicle and was turning the steering wheel, I heard what sounded like a thin plastic wrapper "crinkling" as if caught between the stationary part of the steering column and the rotating rear section of the steering wheel. When I stopped the vehicle, I noticed a flat strip plastic encased copper wire leads appeared to be unraveling from between the stationary portion of the steering column and the rotating rear section of the steering wheel. I drove the vehicle to my auto repair garage, and the technician identified the part as the airbag clockspring assembly. The assembly apparently failed during normal vehicle use and now results in a reduced level of protection for myself in the event of accident. After researching the matter, I have discovered that many other owners of 2008, 2009 and 2010 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) have experienced similar failures with their airbags. The repair garage advised me that there was a recall on RHD Jeep Wrangler of the same model years for the same assembly.

My airbag warning light turned on. It would intermittently turn on and off after that until I had it fixed. It would turn on and off with a frequency of about one every other minute sounding off a warning chime. I did some research and learned that this symptom is a common problem with my model year of vehicle and has been a problem with model years 2007 and up. The problem is with the clockspring mechanism in the steering column that has something to do with the air bag. It apparently has something to do with the function of the airbag and is already the subject of recalls on other model years as well as a recall on the 2009 RHD version of the Wrangler. They clearly are using the same part on these models and should be a recall on all models that have this part. I brought it to the dealer to get fixed and Jeep determined that it was a faulty clockspring mechanism and I had it replaced as it obviously is a safety risk. Please investigate this and have them recall all models with the same clockspring mechanism before someone gets hurt or killed. I am currently negotiating with Chrysler corporation regarding this repair but I paid for the entire repair myself.
- Snohomish, WA, USA
The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that the air bag warning lamp illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the clock spring was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 59,500.
- Cathlamet, WA, USA
Airbag light is on and dinger comes on constantly, was told by dealer it is a clockspring failure, I have seen several comments on Jeep forums concerning this problem, Jeep is a RHD.
- Cathlamet, WA, USA
Dealer diagnosed a failure in the clockspring circuit. Air bags will now not deploy in crash.
- Brockport, PA, USA
The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. The contact was driving approximately 65 mph when the esp/bas warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel which resulted in a complete loss in the vehicle stability control. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The clock spring module was being replaced for the second time within one year. The failure mileage was approximately 14,400. The VIN was unavailable.
