Fuel tank overflows upon complete fill, major problem in many Jeep Wrangler over much of their production since 2007 evidently. Gasoline spills over vehicle, people and ground upon filling tank. Major safety and environmental hazard.

Numerous time over the past 3 years I've had gas overflow / spill / spew out from while filling my tank with gas. This has happened at various gas stations and both using manually using the gas trigger or locking the gas trigger. I took the Jeep to the dealer last year and they said it would cost $1200 to replace the gas tank. From the research I have done there is already an investigation into this matter for my specific make and model.

Every time I fill my '10 Jeep Wrangler with gas, the gas pump shuts off and then the gas backs up out of my gas tank and pours out of my car all over the ground. I have tried not locking the gas pump on, going to different stations, and filling it slowly. Nothing works. It does the same thing time after time.

Hello, my name is [xxx] and on January 4th, 2014 I purchased a 2010 Jeep jk Wrangler from a family friend, upon the first 3 times filling up (all so far) the gas has spewed out of the tank and onto the ground before I could shut off the pump handle. I've probably wasted at least 2 gallons already by doing this, which adds up quick. This seems very dangerous to me, one little spark could send the vehicle up in flames and harm me, and many others. I was wondering if there was any type of warranty to cover this so that myself, and others, don't have to pay hundreds of dollars to get the problem fixed, or worry every time we go to the pump. Gas tank overfills no matter which pump I used at different gas stations. The vehicle was purchased new. This problem only has been occurring for the passed 4 months.

Gas fill spit back now occurs every time I fill the tank and it has caused burning to my skin from contact with the gasoline. There is also a fire hazard associated with the spilled fuel on the ground at the gas station.

When filling up the gas tank to full (when the nozzle should automatically shut off), the gas will overflow/spit out fuel and spill. I've taken this into the Jeep dealer to determine what the cause is. The dealer's diagnosis of the problem was a faulty shutoff valve within the tank and to fix this issue, the whole tank would need to be replaced. This is not caused by "user error". this issue is a common occurrence with Jeep Wrangler as cited from numerous other complaints and should be recalled as spilled fuel poses a fire hazard to the fueling station, the vehicle, and the driver/passengers. Gas over flows out of gas tank at each fill up.

Every time I fill up my tank, gas gushes out all over the side of my vehicle and onto the ground. The auto shutoff on the nozzle will not work. I am not "topping off" or leaving the hose unattended.this has happened at multiple gas stations. I feel that gasoline spewing out onto my clothes, all over the side of the Jeep and onto the pavement is clearly a safety hazard. This started happening about two months after my standard warranty ended. I was told by the dealer they are aware of the problem, but repair is not covered, even though the exact problem would be fixed for free if I had an older model Jeep.

When fueling my 2010 Jeep Wrangler, the tank overflows onto the ground at the pump. I have tried limiting flow at the handle and it still does it. This is a major fire hazard as raw fuel is spilled on the ground and drips from the rear of the vehicle.

When fueling my vehicle the gas pump does not shut off and causes a fuel spill every time the vehicle is refueled. This has happened every time I fueled the vehicle at several different stations, using both the manual or automatic shut off on the gas nozzles.

My 2010 Jeep Wrangler overflows gasoline every time the tank is filled up. This hasn't happened only once, it has been going on over the course of a couple of months. The first time it happened, I was at a full gas station, so someone was pumping my gas for me and I thought something was wrong with their tanks but soon the problem became more and more frequent and at different gas stations. Now, it has gotten to the point where, even though the tank is nowhere near full, it does not allow me to put any more gas into the tank and overflows so much gas there is a huge puddle on the floor. I am afraid to fill up my tank now, for it has splattered on my clothes, shoes, legs, etc and I am paying for gas that is literally going to waste, on top of that, this is a huge safety issue!! I did not pay for a $30,000+ car to have to keep taking it back to the dealership to have it fixed.

When fueling my Jeep, pressure builds in the tank/lines & fuel sprays onto paint & ground potentially causing a fire if a spark is encountered. It takes 5-10 minutes to refuel if you dont want this to occur...

When refueling fuel spills out of filling port on vehicle. Fuel spurts out potentially onto person refueling vehicle or onto vehicle and ground. This has happened on multiple occasions during different temperatures and refueling conditions. This has also happened at multiple gas stations.

Fuel overflow when getting gas at the pump. Auto-off does not click off but also, when fueling manually, pump does not click off when tank is full. Also, the angle of the gas pump nozzle seems to affect severity of problem. This problem started back in January of 2012. Had the Jeep for 8 months with no problems.

Fuel spills out of the tank when refueling at a gas station. If I fill up the tank, letting the gas pump shut off when it wants to, about a cup of fuel comes back out of the gas tank. I am not topping off the tank.

On Jan. 19th, 2012 my Jeep Wrangler unlimited rubicon edition (with auto tranny) caught on fire. Just prior to that the engine had cut off. I lost all power. My co-worker indicated that the cars coming towards us were flashing their lights and honking their horns. I looked in the rear-view mirrow to see if there was someone behind me, and saw a trail of smoke from my Jeep. I had no dash warning lights indicating a problem, and according to the deputy sherriff, who was traveling towards me during the situation, the vehicle was already on fire. We drifted to the next pull off and jumped out of the vehicle, after putting it in park. I realized at that time that the vehicle was still moving forward, and had to jump back in to apply the parking brake to stop it from rolling down the street. My co-worker said that there appeared to be something on fire under the hood, and I told him not to open it, so he went for help. I proceeded to remove my work and hunting gear. I managed to get my payroll checks, deposit checks, and my tool bag out of the vehicle before it was fully involved, both inside and out. As I reached into the back to grab my tool bag, I noticed that the front passenger comparment was already fully engulfed in flames. Neither of us was hurt, except for some smoke inhalation. I am thankful that I did not have my family with me, that we were not traveling down the interstate, or that I did not make it home and park the Jeep in the garage. From the time the Jeep shut off until it was fully engulfed in flames was approx. 45 seconds. In talking to me "off the record" the inspector from Jeep said that he believed that "due to the amount of blow-back damage the vehicle was already on fire while driving it, and that it was most likely a fuel line rupture issue. But he didn't want to formally state that until he was finished.

Every time I go to fill up my car with gas, I get a over spill of gas that shoots out of my car about 2 inches away from my car. And also along the side of my car. It's a dangerous situation.

When filling the tank gas spills out when the handle stops flow at the full tank level. It doesn't matter if you fill the tank slowly or even decrease the gas flow to the point just before the handle shuts off. It still overflows. I have read in forums that this is a common problem with Jeep jk models, possibly a defect with the tank check valve or the overflow drain line. The tsb's I've read only indicate a free dealer warranty fix for the 07 and 08 models but reports continue the be noted for '09 and '10 models as well. This safety hazard must be addressed.
