We were driving and pulled over to a grocery store and noticed that the dash lights were going crazy and then the cabin started to fill with a little smoke and then the car shut off. The doors would not open and the car had no power at all. We were finally to get us and our kids out. I popped the hood and noticed a small fire next to the ground wire. The engine had caught fire. I put out the fire. There is another set of recalls on Kia's about the engines and the car catching on fire. The Kia dealer said that there is not a recall on this car.

In 2017 my Sedona was leaking water In the rear well. South Austin Kia accused my 135 lb dog of peeing in the rear well. He will not fit back there. After many attempts to get them to fix it and contacting corporate I was told "if I can prove it is leaking they will try to fix it". I went through a carwash climbed into the back and videotaped it. Took it back to Kia of South Austin and the recrimped the well. When I got my van back they had failed to reinstall the carpet and bolts. Two months ago I took my van to Firestone for its oil change. 1000 miles into it my check engine light came on. We read the code and it came up no oil. We added oil, took it to Firestone and there is no evidence of an oil leak. The check engine light stayed off until last night. It threw 138 codes. Never ever seen so many codes. I'm replacing this van in a couple of weeks. We are limping it. I get sever panic attacks thinking about going back to Kia of South Austin for the treatment that has occured.

Around January of last year, with no warning at all, no lights on the dash. Suddenly while driving on my way home (luckily I had just gotten off the highway) my van started making a knocking noise and I decided I was going to try and pull over safely once I heard the noise, when all of a sudden the engine just stops. There was no power at all, I barely got out of the way of other traffic as there was no shoulder on this street. This was very scary and I had my child in the car. I took my car to the Kia dealer and even though my car only had about 90k miles on it and was taken care of very well, they refused to replace the engine. I paid 8k to have an engine placed because I still owe the bank money on this car. So many people are having issue with Kia and its not right that they wont help.

Our 2015 Kia second minivan overheated repeatedly in 2020 for unknown reasons resulting in a total engine failure and complete loss of value. After leaving a highway, the minivan overheated, resulting in a blinking engine light. It was quickly parked and later driven to a mechanic, who could not replicate the problem. After a period of operation at normal temperatures, it began to misfire. No warning lights appeared prior to or during these misfires. Nonetheless, we had the starter coils replaced based on a repair code. After another period of normal operation, it again began to misfire and overheated without triggering any warning lights. We drove it immediately to our mechanic, who determined that the head gasket was blown. A Kia dealer to which we towed the car confirmed this assessment and reported it needed a $6K new engine that would cost $3K to install. (neither we nor our independent mechanic could locate a used engine for less than $4K.) in its current state, the dealer estimates that the 5 year old minivan's trade-in value is $500. Kia regional is unable to confirm that a replacement engine is available and their representative reported that it is remanufacturing these engines and may need to wait for parts to be created and shipped from South Korea. The 2015 Sedona engine is of the same type (Kia lambda II 3.3L V6 gasoline direct injection) included in vehicles that were the subject of the recent engine fire lawsuit (andrea smolek V. Hyundai motors America and Kia motors America). However, the Sedona was not included in the settlement of that case or the related recall.

My family and I were coming back from vacation and the engine threw a rod and shut off going 70mph down the road. I had the car towed to a Kia dealer near my house. They indicated I need a new engine at a cost of $8,400. The van is worth approximately $11K. I called Kia consumer support and opened a case to see if they would give goodwill since it is timed out of warranty. It is three months out of warranty but 10K under the mileage portion warranty. Since I am the second owner the 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty decreased to 5 year/60,000 miles. Kia asked for all my receipts which I provided indicating I have changed the oil, put new tires on, and replaced the brakes. This is all that has been required since we only have 50K miles. Kia stated that after reviewing my case they would not be able to offer any goodwill because my records aren't up do date. I told them I kept my own records, which I gave to them, but they weren't willing to listen to me. I was very surprised how rude they were to me during this whole process.

Check bgd warning light came on screen while travelling at 40-45 mph on a straight stretch of city road. Car immediately slowed down. Lost power brakes and power steering. Other dashboard lites came on - -check engine light, etc. I brought vehicle to stop and placed transmission into park, . vehicle did not restart and the transmission was locked..dealer retained vehicle for 28-30 days and was not able to repair it. Dealer subsequently repurchased the vehicle from me.

On 9/4/18, while driving on the parkway I noticed my car was sluggish & making a noise upon acceleration. I thought it was my muffler because I didnt have any warning lights illuminated on my dashboard to indicate a major problem. As I exited the parkway, my car stalled & I coasted to the side of the road. I was able to start it a couple more times before it died for good. I had the car towed to the neptune NJ Kia where we authorized a $400 partial tear down of the engine which we thought was to diagnose the problem but it was only to take some pictures of the engine & oil filter for the warranty dept. We were then asked to provide maintenance records which we couldn't since my husband did the majority of work & we didn't think to keep receipts being that we'd never been in this situation with our other cars. We've been fighting this for a couple months now but our warranty has been denied for "lack of maintenance" as they stated we have sludge in our engine. However, this problem is bigger than my lack of receipts. Lack of receipts doesn't mean lack of maintenance! Kia has a huge problem with their engines and they're using this technicality as a way to deny coverage even though their own 2015 warranty manual states "warranty coverage will not be denied solely because there is no record of maintenance. However, failures caused by lack of required maintenance are not covered by the warranty." Where's the proof we did anything wrong" to this day they still "dont know" what went wrong with my car as there were no fault codes pulled from my ECU & a full engine tear down was not done. Also, the dealer said they are now out of $7K long blocks for my car wonder why" and told me I'd have to go with a short block at a cost of $17K (extra parts & labor required) or figure out how to get an engine on my own. This is happening to too many people & needs to be addressed!

The engine dies while driving. Bought the minivan with 97 miles. Drives back home and parked there for about 1 week. (new year holidays). Then started to drive the van. The first day (with almost full gas tank) the engine dies while driving 3 times, all on city streets with low speed. 2 out of 3 time there is little uphill, the other time it is in flat grocery parking lot. After that I scheduled service appointment and begin to use the van for commute as well to test more. For one week it is driving ok. But after I fillup the gas tank, the engine dies again, in one of the exact same places near my home it died one week ago. Had the engine died when on highway, it would have more serious impact. The dealer service department said they cannot find anything unusual yet and need to keep the van for longer time for diagnosis.
