Summary
"SITUATION: A ‘CLATTERING’ NOISE MAY BE HEARD FROM THE ENGINE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, INCLUDING REMOVING THE SUPERCHARGER DRIVE BELT AND RUNNING THE ENGINE TO CONFIRM THE NOISE IS NO LONGER PRESENT, THE NOISE MAY BE FOUND TO BE COMING FROM THE SUPERCHARGER ASSEMBLY. CAUSE: THIS MAY BE CAUSED BY THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS: • THE TORSIONAL ISOLATOR SPRING MAY FAIL DUE TO LACK OF ADEQUATE INPUT SHAFT PILOT SUPPORT, LEADING TO OVERHANG AND INCREASED STRESSES IN THE TORSION SPRING AND CAUSING EXCESSIVE BACKLASH IN THE SUPERCHARGER DRIVE AND NO TORSIONAL DAMPING. • BEARING CONTAMINATION."
