The O?ce of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received twelve (12) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ-??s) on Model Year (MY) 2014 to MY 2017 Range Rover Sport (L494 chassis) vehicles manufactured by Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC. VOQ's report that one or both aluminum front steering knuckles have fractured at the top at the joint where the steering knuckle attaches via a pinch bolt and nut to the upper control arm ball joint. The front steering knuckles are the mounting point for the front wheel and tire, along with the entirety of the front service brake assembly. A loss of structural integrity of the front suspension knuckle may lead to detachment of the upper suspension arm, which under extreme avoidance maneuvers may compromise the vehicle-??s controllability and increase the risk of a crash. ODI is opening this Preliminary Evaluation (PE) to determine the scope, severity, and origin of this condition.
